The most difficult un-hooking problems arise, if the pike is hooked deep in its mouth.

My fish disgorger is 8" long, so you can get to the hook, without risk of fish

raking you hands with its teeth

-you should be able to get these specialised disgorgers from a good fishing tackle shop-if not, jusy key in

"Pike disgorgers on you taskbar, and you should have plenty of options to purchase the correct tool for this job.

Also get a "Gag" for deeply set hooks

-it keeps fish's jaws open

THe "Gag" is a springloaded v-shaped instrument, by which you can hold open and adjust to different widths of the jaws of the Pike you have caught, whilst you remove hook

Also recommend landing by net-dont like seeing fishermen picking up heavy pike

from water by hand

-this risks permanent damage to fish gills, even though it looks very clever

I only use artificial baits now. I carve wooden plugs from pinewood (sinkers, trollers, and poppers), and tie most of my own flies for trout fishing.

I used to use worms sometimes, and would hook them on a two-single-hook Pennel rig, like used for sea-fishing.

When I went sea fishing a few years ago with my son, I bought some live ragworm, and when I stuck hook in them, the head came back and bit my finger
