  • i was here a great day

  • The ridiculous decision to have Stereophonics headlining still rankles. Thumbs up if you left after the Pixies played!

  • fucking Love PIXIES!!!!

  • Wow I can't get Kim Deal out of my head, she has touched my soul.

  • Where is my mind?????????

  • brilliant

  • BTW have been retired for 10 years and doing it tuff ILMFAO :P

  • umbilical007 you are a tool I made my money out off music (I am retired @the age of 38) and the pixies are one of the most influential bands of there time my fav

seems to have done me well!

  • I am a very positive and patient person. I take pride in that.

May be you have a chance to grow up umbilical007. Try listening to No.13 Baby Outro.

Everyone deserves a happy life. So does you. Take care, umbilical007. :) :)

  • Son de aquellos grupos que los oyes una vez y te atrapan. Son de los grandes.

  • Great show, I found myself on one of the alternate angles on the DVD (Monkey's Gone To Heaven).

  • Great band,great tune,great city.

  • Love how the crowds still respond to them after all these years. Agree with rlefaive about the younger kids joining us "old-timers" in appreciating them.

  • I'll probably still find Kim Deal sexy when she's 70

  • i got to see kim deal standing in front row at the greek theatre it was soooo rad! until the guy from american pie kicked us out of his seats...

  • awesome vid...I love Kim Deal.

  • well they were well known and popular in Britain and Europe before the U.S.

I think it must be their quirky appeal, that appealed...! and the nutty creaming and varied music styles and and and....!!

  • So cool how these UK'ers know every damn word and sing along! Surreal. Just saying thats its pretty amazing how some americans can play all over the world and people love them to death. Im from the US by the way and I love them too. I also love Oasis who is from manchester, and can sing every word of their songs too. hahaha

  • Im in that crowd!!!!!!!

  • The one thing (out of many) I find most fascinating about Pixies is how the 4 of them seem like they couldn't possibly be picked more randomly from humanity. Visually seem like a completely unrelated mix of average joe's from around America with no common back ground .... then they get on stage or in the studio and erupt, spewing forth this unique and charming madness.

  • exactly. they look like the average person you see in a subway or a starbucks. they look nothing like a rockstar, yet they are the true epitome of real rockstars.

  • Crowds going nuts for "Here comes your man!" and its a nice gentle tune compared to the other tunes they have done!

  • este..... son una verga me cae. pero como se equivocan jajaja..

  • fuck.. i love this song.. since i was a little child.. and just now with 16 years i know this is pixies.. :)

  • Once you've been Pixiefied there's no way back.

  • Yeah... like any drug

  • Interesting how it seems the UK audiences show more respect to the Pixies than most US crowds:(

Yes, the media has brainwashed most Americans but not me. I love me Pixies and I've only been listening to them for a month!

  • Pixies always were more successful in Europe than the USA. During their first go-around, they drew huge crowds in Europe, but almost no one in the USA heard of them outside New York City and around college towns.

  • Pixies Fackin' Rock ! We are just a harsher nation, Tea:Crumpets ; Beer:Pizza

  • and beer:pizza= very fat people

  • Best response....ever!!!

  • best response.....ever dukkha88

  • @dukkha88 not every one. :D

  • Its weird how their fanbase has increased about 10 fold since they broke up.

  • Similar thing to RATM really.

  • no one realizes how great something is until its gone.

  • meilleur groupe de rock de tous les temps !!! MERCI

  • A typical grey rainy day in Manchester transformed into pure utopia when these played their set,i was there and the atmosphere was mindblowing. The best band on the planet in my humble opinion.

  • i just love this band . and am sorry i missed then in '04 when they played the aragon in chicago and urge overkill backed

    them up

  • im in that crowd!!

  • I never heard the Pixies until I started listening online to the BBC. It's a shame that we Americans have to listen to British radio to expose ourselves to great American bands. Radio here in the U.S. SUCKS!

  • Radio is the states. It's a mind control operation, not art. All of it is market research.

"What kind of hoop can we get people to jump through today?"

"Wow, these people are dumb, but whom is better to sell crap too."

That's the design behind American broadcast radio. Sad, but absolutly true.

  • quase choreii

  • frank black is G O D

  • Metal is meaningless nonsense!!

  • White college kids? And you fancy yourself what? Some great white sophisticate who worships anything done by black street thugs? Why don't you go back to your daydream of being dicked up the ass by Fiddy Cent.

  • Metal is for dumb kids pal, and you are welcome to it. It's cool if you don't understand the Pixies music, no shame in that I guess.

  • What the hell are you talking about? What is better than this a bunch of super rich rappers singing about material possesions the average man will never have? Yeah rap still "KEEPS IT REAL", hasn't lost touch with it's roots of black people in NY living in poverty at all has it? And metal is even worse, it sounds horrible, the writing is just awful and I'm almost certain not one person can actualy play ( we can all hit the strings on guitars downwards and bang on drums).

  • Abso Fucking lutely Brilliant!!!!! That gives me shivers watching it. They are still the coolest band in the world. Frank Black is the best frontman you could ask for. Long may they reign!!!!

  • Kim looks overwhelmed by audience response.

  • She should have never smoked tobbaco. Her sister Kelly and her should quit the cigarettes.

  • I'm more worried about Kelly's Heroin addiction than her Nicotine habit to be honest mate

  • Wicked man!! Pixies allways play brill in the UK!!!

  • I'm still amazed that finally they are as big in the states as they were in europe all those years ago... Got to see them at the paradise (Boston!) a couple years ago. So freaking awesome to see them in a small club!

  • One of the best gigs i`ve been to!

One of the best bands of all time - just wish they`d make a new album!!!!!!!!

  • I was there..... been & seen a lot - & this is one of the best gigs I've ever been to

  • Pixies + Manchester = awesome

  • probably the most under-rated band ever!!

  • whoever said these are over rated is an idiot.

  • I pegged the Pixies as great the first time I heard them back in college on the East Coast, Providence/Boston.

Face it. They were real rock's last gasp.

  • i don't think the pixies are overrated - in fact, i think its cool that - after all these years - they can go on tour and get all the money, appreciation etc - which they should have got in the first place. a happy ending.

  • haha sure they're overrated if you call inventing indie and allternitive rock overrated, then i guess your right and besides who cares what they look like maybe you dont realize it but bands should sound good not just look good

  • it's like people for years said the Beatles and The Who weren't influential - then decent music came back like Nirvana who weren't embarassed to admit liking the Beatles. leave your faux-punk credentials at the door and worship at the feet of Frank Black!

  • I was at this and the organisers had the lack of foresight to put Pixies on before Stereophonics and at least half the crowd went home after the Pixies. Ha, ha, ha...Black Francis is a genius!

  • Haha, same thing happened at a Red Hot Chili Peppers gig in the Phoenix Park in Dublin three years ago, where The Pixies were the "support"! A load of people left after The Pixies had played. A bunch of people got to see the Chili's for free then, because the people who left, gave their tickets to others who were outside!

  • I don't blame them. Never really understood what all the fuss was about regarding RHCP to be honest. And i love allsorts of music.

  • listen to more songs, keep your opinion after that if you still think they're not that great

  • inkydinky you're a fuckhead big time true!!

  • magici!

  • absolut fabulous!!!

  • hey man i saw the pixies at leeds fest when the were touring in the uk that year anyone got any footage of it?

  • kim deal rules

    and what year is it?

  • i don't know what it is but the pixies (and doolittle in particular) give me this lust-for-life feeling every time. i'm so glad i saw them live in holland in 2005 (great show). i love the pixies and i always will!

  • AAAH! I'm in LOVE with Frank Black and Kim Deal! Oh, and EVERYTHING in Manchester!!!

  • Most overrated band ever.

  • UR MUM IS TEH OVERRATED LAWL

  • um, no it isnt

  • "Most overrated band ever."

Hmm, pretty uninformed statement. Since the Pixies never got a whole lot of recognition when they were active in the 80s-90s, they were hardly overrated then. And now? You can't disregard the HUGE demand to hear this music live that built up over the years since they disbanded. In fact, the Pixies story is fairly unique, and proof that they aren't 'overrated' at all.

And yes, beowulven, you're a dickhead.

  • Pixies, like (ahem) Nirvana are held up by folks who know no better as being incredibly influential. These are the same people who think Nicholas Cage is a great actor or Jim Morrison was a fine poet: twerpy lads who should listen, watch, and read more than what they find in big brother's closet after he's left for the frat house. Calling me a dickhead because I have a dissenting opinion says much about the kind of person you are. Best of luck.

  • Of course the pixies were influential. Kurt Cobain said they were a huge influence on Nirvana.

  • LOUD QUIET LOUD mate LOUD QUIET LOUD!

The blueprint for just about any indie/alternative band.

You can't deny the huge demand for tickets in the U.K. bought by people of all ages.

And we don't have College Fraternities here.

So you can't call it Frat House Rock in a disparaging typeface, can you?

Maybe you should try to get a job on the NME. They like people that invent Musical Genres

  • beowulven:

Influential is determined by the test of time. Not by any individual. By these standards:

    - an ever growing fan base 16+ years after writing their last new song.

    - an ever growing list of bands striving to either imitate them or, like them, create a completely new sound (and failing).

Enough time has past that it has already spoken

Pixies are undeniably the most influential band of the last 20 years -> and as some have postulated -> were perhaps Rock's last truly great gasp.

  • Not really, the other way you can see it is The pixies were the band for millions of untalented wannabe's who could sing The Pixies songs as good or better than the original band! it's the ultimate kareoke moment! Add to that the pathetic guitar playing, and you've got a recipe for drunk and high teenagers to feel like they "get" what the "artists" are saying and playing, and WA LA ! The emperor has new clothes!

  • Dude -> if you don't like or "get" their tunes and sound -> fine. There's always a few in a crowd whose taste is different.

But to deny the originality of thier contributions is assinine and shows a complete lack of any musical ear.

Slagging Santiago's guitar playing shows a true lack of musical knowledge. His solo style is one of the most unique. It is also a common lament, from actual musicians, that "there are no great chords left - the pixies took them all". Largely thanks to Joey.

  • Guys, ignore umbilical007.

There's awesome because there is AWFUL. or simpler, there's good because there's bad.

Pixies is the greatest band ever to be in existence on the face of the earth because it was never ever Tom Dick and Harry's shit. I respect and consider Pixies fans evolved and different because there are people like umbilical007.

    Thank umbilical007.

  • Do the world a favor and go and listen to your colection of "night ranger" CD's. Your a joke! You have no CLUE!

  • @rlefaive How about Nirvana, you dont think they're influential?

  • @turnbacktime Kurt Cobain on smells like teen spirit : I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it. When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band— or at least a Pixies cover band. We used their sense of dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard

  • @rocketz i'm aware of that, i also like the pixies and the deal sisters.

  • @turnbacktime Of course NIrvana were influential. I loved them too. Many up an coming artists cite them as an influence. They have a large audience to this day and always will have one.

But I said MOST influential. Virtually everyone worth listening to cites Pixies as a key formative influence. While musical taste is absolutely subjective, for me anyway, its clear whcih of the two bands were the bigger pioneers with a more unique and varied sound. There is simply noone remotely like Pixies.

  • I waited for this to happen for sooo long and when it did I was on my Stag Do in Prague !! Arrggh My Missus went and said it was the Dogs Bollox.. I think I agree..

  • I wanna be on their concert...

  • they're so good it kind of makes me cry a bit. Saw them in '92 at Crystal Palace Bowl and again in 2005 at Alexandra Palace. Joey Santiago is a genius, Frank Blacks vocals are just sublime and Kim strumming that bass to perfection, even David on the drums is brilliant. They always manage to sound like the record but with that extra mile on top. Love the smile on Kimks face, she's loving it. Thank God for time and monetary inspiration

  • The first pixies gig I went to. It was good.

  • anamophically squeezed :(

  • what year is it?

  • Alternative music at its best!!!!

  • im going to c them soon hehehehe. cant wait there playing in Australia soon

  • frank black is the best songwriter of the last 20 years, i listen to it over and over and wonder if i´m over rating him, and then i read all these comments, what a relief!

  • I kinda like them being underated- they're my band and I don't want to share them ;)

  • amen to that feeling!

  • Incredible. Frank Black is a genius. I saw them twice on the comeback tour and they play their songs so well it's amazing. The pixies rule. And Surfer Rosa is the best album of the '80s.

  • Wow watching this wants me to get my surfer rosa out. Long live the pixies!

  • great video; raining in Manchester-what a surprise

  • they are the best band ever!

  • Where Is My Mind? ... best song ever! !!5/5!!

  • simply genious songs

  • Breathtaking and immortal

  • Damn !! Here Comes Your man !!! I saw them live !!! They're simply amazing !

  • Where is your mind if you don't like the Pixies :p

  • Pixies, quite possibly the most influencial band in 30+ years...as well as the most unappreciated. After 15 years of listening to these guys they are still my favorite band...I never tire of their music.

  • My feelings exactly

  • The Pixies are the best of the Best!

  • The Pixies are simply the best band in the entire world. . Kurt and the game simply ripped them off and did a poor job of it! - End of chat -

  • The Pixies are simply the best band in the entire world. Kurt and the game simply ripped them off and did a GOOD job of it! - End of chat -

  • emmmmm kim is so hot

  • Too bad it takes a bunch of people in the UK to recognize and appreciate one of the USA's more original, catchy bands. Whats popular here now? I dont even want to know.

  • If I had been at that show, I would have no problem dying right now. My life would be complete.

  • I am with you, totally!

  • Pixies is Pixies... 20 years ago, 10 years ago, today, tomorrow and forever.

    Thanks for the music.

  • Deal Rocks, and Charles proves you can grow fatter as you get old and you're still cool.

  • Pixies Forever

  • Little know fact: The Pixies are, in actually, Jesus split into four.

  • Yeah, even less known is that they can transform back into a single entity, kinda like a Jesusy-Voltron.

  • Is Kim Deal hot?

  • a rival to The Smiths for band of the 80s pixies4ever
