  • My Idea

    L: General Audiences.

7: Passed only for 7 and older.

10: Passed only for 10 and older.

12: Passed only for 12 and older.

14: Passed only for 14 and older.

16: Passed only for 16 and older.

18: Banned, this means no one can go EVEN if they are 18 or older.

  • the R15+ and AO-18 make sense... but the R-17 is pointless

  • ao-18 referance to esrb'a ao rating and m-15 refrences to austrlia classification rating ma-15 .

  • I like to thank everyone for the personal and honest opinion about my idea. I know some of you may disagree and I appreciate your opinion. My idea is not perfect but it may be in answer to a fast growing movie industry. I recently wrote an e-mail to the MPAA and told them my opinion on the rating system. I hope to hear back from them.

  • Did anyone notice that the R-17 rating said "Restricted to viewers 17 and OVER?!"

  • my idea of movie ratings are in 3 catagories. catagory 1: EC (Early Childhood), G(General), G8 (General 8). Catagory 2: PG (Parental Guidence), PG-13. Catagory 3: MA-15 (Mature 15+), MA-17 (Mature 17+), R18 (Restricted 18)

  • The R-17 and AO-18 makes no sense...as egormly said, they're only a year apart.

  • u used the hbo song

  • R-17 and AO-18...whats the big difference, its a year apart!

  • @egormly its kinda like the difference between R and NC-17 now. Someone under 17 can get into an R movie with a parent, if you are under 17 you can't get into an NC-17 movie no matter what. It seems like it is basically just a NC-18 instead of an NC-17.

  • @bostonbakedbeans28 Ok, I get it now. ◔_◔

  • It doesn't matter how many ratings the MPAA will give out, distributors and movie theaters are too cowardly to release films above a pg-13.

  • we have 'M' now. it was also 'M' in the 80s till 89 when it was reclarified as 'M 15+' then we have 'MA 15+' which was brought in 93 coz ppl(do- gooders and some conservatives) felt M was too broad and letting kids unrestricted acces to intense movies.. we have only had an R rating since the very early 70s before that many very intense movies were banned here including raunchy movies, movies with blasphemy, violent and gory movies and movies which had expletives, then in 89 it came R18+

  • @BRm2008 M is the original PG.

  • Go the HBO intro music!

  • All you're doing with the AO-18 is continuing the paradox of NC-17 where a ratings board that claims to be working to inform parents choices and instead actually restricts their rights to bring their children to certain films. Besides, you still haven't fixed the problem appropriately representing varying values in American culture. It happened with Quantum of Solace when Urban parents took issue with genital torture in a PG-13 rated film because they favored the opinion of rural parents.

  • That is not to say that rural parents favored violence, but they still preferred it over profanity. Urban parents obviously have to worry more about the impact of violence on their children. My point is that rating like this assumes that every American parent has identical views on what they think is appropriate for their children to see, while in reality we find dramatically disparagement in this.

  • The problem is that the vast majority of Americans are simpletons and consider anything with heavy sexual content to be "porn" and "filth". They have no understanding of or appreciation for art, nor do they comprehend that sex and sexuality are a perfectly normal part of being human. Until that changes it won't matter what a movie's rating is.

  • G,PG,PG13,R,R17 & AO18

  • the u.s. rates the movies too high, one of the reasons I love Canada :)

  • @MattsVloggingToo here in the uk our movies are rated u pg 12 15 18

  • @MattsVloggingToo I think you're right because once i bought a Ren and Stimpy DVD which were seasons 1 and 2. Canada rated it PG and Amercia put a "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" sticker on it even though it did not derseve it.

  • Most other countries have some sort of 15+ rating, so it makes sense.

  • the "M-15" is completely unnecessary

  • Interesting. If only the pious MPAA brass took this into consideration.

  • Roger Ebert has been ranting for years to get the MPAA to adopt a ratings system similar to this. One day...one day...

  • Good Idea. I like that.

  • YEAH! :D
