You will need an oil pressure test gauge tool. Remove the oil pressure switch (located on the back side of the engine block), install the test gauge start the engine at idle the pressure should be 5psi and 45-105psi at 3000RPM.
How about an 88 Cherokee? We can't figure out where our oil leak is coming from. Already replaced the oil pan gasket and rear main seal as well as cleaned the valve cover. Still leaking and only when we turn it off.
Your oil pressure sensor for your 1988 jeep should be located right above the oil filter. You might want to check the oil filter housing for leaks (the "o" rings are known to fail).
The oil pressure sensor for your 2001 Ranger is located in the engine block on the right (passenger side) top of the engine just behind the cylinder head.
Since I am not mechanically inclined... I have a 94 Volvo 850 when driven for about 35 min the car will start to sputter when accelerating as if it is going to stall... Then Oil explodes out the top of the engine. Car will not run properly until it sits for about 45 min then i will run fine. Its almost as if there is to much pressure causing the oil to push out the weakest point (Oil Cap) then a "saftey" feature kills the engine. Would that be caused by the oil pressure sensor?
I'm assuming you would like to know the location of the oil pressure sensor for your 2006 Civic? It is located just below the vtec solenoid (on the right rear of the cylinder head).
after seeing this. i think my base model 94 firebird has this problem. my "low oil" light comes on. i brake like coming to a stop. my oil gauge goes down to zero, then check gauges comes on. accelerating, brings oil pressure back up. and "check" turns off. but i check my dip stick now. and even if its off. is like 30x higher then full. i think the sensor is failed and starving my engine. ill try this and see what happens. -faved- ill let ya know how it goes
Where would the sensor be in a '99 Dakota R/T? I'm having some issues with my check gauge light coming on when stopping, (specifically oil pressure dropping to 0) and I think this might resolve the problem.
I would make sure your timing belt is tight (a loose timing belt can cause a slapping noise). Another thing to recheck is your valve clearance. Good Luck!!
also, before the pump change, gauge would indicate dead 0 oil pressure, but engine was running fine, upon acceleration would come back up to 30-40. but i never saw any oil light pop up on dash, just "check gauges"
now about a week later again oil pressure is back down to about 20 @ idle and 40-45 highway. my last though(shuold have been first) is to change oil pressure switch/sending unit. if there are any other possibilities please let me know. also i am running 10-w30 oil, and its about 28 degrees outside , and pressure dropped when temperature did.
hi, i have a 2000 jeep cherokee. I am having issues with low oil pressure(or what seems to be). i have a oil pressure gauge on the dash. about 2 weeks ago i changed my oil, and filter. a few days later my oil pressure dropped(on the gauge) to 20 @ idle and 40 @ highway speeds. Gnereally it sits @ 40 at idle, and 60 @ highway speeds. so i decided to change my oil pump, when oil pump was pulled, screen was very clean(mind you this jeep has 170000 miles). So after the pump change pressure was good.
i have a 99 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0 i6 and my oil sending unit is bad. i'm not exactly sure where it is and i really don't have $35 for a haynes manual. Do u know where it is located?? your help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I would first check your oil level. You may want to also check your oil pressure, then test your oil pressure switch and replace as needed.
