It's well known that japanese whalers claim to do "whale research" so that they can abuse a loophole in the international law. The law wouldn't allow hunting the whales for meat, but does allow lethal research.
I think Sea Shepherd are doing good work. Even if you don't agree with their means, a recent wikileaks cable has shown that they are actually quite effective.

Other than that I cannot tell which non-profit will shut down because a cure was created which is found in whales. Whale Meat is just a bi-product which would be thrown to waste. Which IWC prohibits.

Whales in the southern ocean became endangered in the southern ocean due to large scale commercial whaling which started in 1784 from NZ and Australia. This lead to the many species becoming highly endangered. Japanese Whaling has not lead to this situation and is actually sustainable.

Pilot whale pop est. 1.3 million.
So the postings about some superlow population of Minke whales posted by people does not help the cause in protecting whales. Turns logic minded people against you.
Change tactics, show more whale killings as they are REPULSIVE to public viewers.
