I have been riding harleys for a long time. i got a new harley xr 750 for my 16th birthday from my loving grandparents. i rode that bike into a history of harley davidsons.i have owned every shape and size. slammed,aped,strecthed,bobbed,flamed,solo,king/queen,fast to comfy.
yet i find myself enjoying my 2003 100th 883 the most.i added seat, bars, risers, controls and pipes to my own spec and and ride it like i stole it.when i roll up after a run the tounge is hanging out but never a breakdown.
other riders laugh at me when i tell them i have an 883 2005...my boss has a fat boy and tells me that his snowmobile has more power than my bike.. i dont know what to say to him to prove im not a homo
I have a 1200 C sportser 2005 with 50,000. My Wife has half that much on her 883.
I realy do not care about what others say they say it from the parking lot and I am riding. Just put it in the shop to get upgraded Cams. WOW look out.
awesome wheels! its no girlsbike let me see. its not a 50cc, 250cc, 400cc, 650, or 750cc its an 883 fuck man its a monster the most popular yet underated model of all the Harleys. Thank God people are still buying them or Harley would go bankrupt
@dirtyjew1974 Problem is too many woman want to be men. I think these bike riding bitches are a turn off. I call em chicks with dicks. My mother and grandmother were real woman.
@journeyquest1 lol not sure about that but i do really like the 883! i think its the perfect size bike, not to big not too small and and sharp looking bike! i dont have a harley, i have a triumph but if i got a harley i would definatly get an 883...very nice!
Well in European Law you are not allowed to have more than 35 horse power until you're 21 ( 20 if you had ur first bike when you where 16 like me )... and soon to be raised to 24...
So i can't use those power kits... But anyways, You have never had to do work on it ?? like something breaking ?, Anyways i love the sportsters they're the most unique of harleys due to their old 1957- look...
I will probably get vance and hines for the sound tho'
hey valley, chill out man your time will come just wait it out and just a piece of advice, i would not start out on a sportster. Being its the first bike you will ever ride its a little to big for the beginner. I started on a yamaha 250. And have no regrets
I want this bike so bad. I can afford it myself, but my dad completely disagrees on it and he wont help me do what i need to do drive it legaly and whats even more bulshit is that he used to ride!!! FUCK I HATE BEING SIXTEEN!!!!!!! :(
Calm down. It makes sense that your Dad doesn't want a 16 year old on a bike. Just wait it out, you can get it yourself in a couple years. After driving a cage around for a couple years, you'll be better equipped to ride the bike responsibly and more inclined to keep it rubber-side down.
I always see people drop there bikes when their bike is at a stop or they forget to put the kickstand down. Those are the common bike drops. It's pretty hard to lay down a bike unless.
1.) you go off the side of the highway and when trying to get back on you hit the lip of the road and wipe out.
2.) you have no choice but to lay it down so you don't slam youself into a car (happens if you don't pay attention).
3.) you take a turn to sharp. It's common on roads your not familiar with.
Valleyfornia209, I am not saying because your sixteen your irresponsable. Just wait a few years, I believe your dad doesn't want you riding a motorcycle on the road at such a young age.
Here where I live, 18 year olds riding crotch rockets and start popin wheelies or taking turns to sharp then end up with loosing an arm, leg, completely decapitated, or slicing their ankles completely off.
once you think your the master of the road, that's when the big fuck up happens. Chill out for a bit.
I know guys who got their Harleys right out of high school, and they still have them 30 + years later. You've got plenty of time to decide which one you really want.
My 17 y/o daughter rides a '92 1200Sporty, and my 20 y/o daughter has an 09 Nightster. They took the motorcycle safety course, and yesterday I had them visit a buddy of mine who was ambused on his Ultra Classic by a pickup truck. He was going 75 when he got hit. So now they know the downside of riding a bike too. They are both very good riders, but it's the person in the car that doesn't see you that's the killer. Be patient and your time will come
the "guy" who says the bike is too small for any man obviously has not said that in the face of a 255 pounder like myself who rides 883 and dont plan to change..HD USA sounds like a flake..
Some people think anything less than 1200cc is a "girl's bike." That's because the Hells Angels set the style rules for manliness with their 1200cc rule. Some people fall for that definition of manhood and would be embarrassed to ride anything smaller.
Was a time when Sportsters were the ultimate sports bike, the fastest on the road. I get a little defensive when people knock them.
Big sportster/ironhead fan...and I actually like the mid controls better then forward...For me it is very comfortable and better handling...I added a bolt on bar that holds other footpegs while on longer rides for adjustment..but 80% of the time on on the mids...great looking bike...I just finished my bobbed 77 FLH and posted it....Check it out!!!!!!
Nice bike, dont worry about what people say, i love my 883,i dont about 22,500 miles on it, and hasent given me any problems what so ever, i would not hesitate to buy another, great bike !!

I've got 883L too.
I got my V&H pipes on order right now.
Gunna be super loud! Then in the summer I'm boring it out and putting 16" apes on. Shall be awesome.
How big are the apes you got? What cables or controls did you have to change? Did you do it yourself or have it done?

is it hard to fit those cool looking apehangers what about cables?

I had a 883 a 91 I put the 1200 big bore kit on it and it was a little hard to hold onto from 0 to 70 but I really liked it.

How did the 91- go ?.. i mean they are quite old but do they work fine ?..
I was wondering to get maybe a 02- Next year... But it all depends on what i want then :)
naitzirc 2 years ago
they work more than fine, but the bore kit may have been a little too much for such a small bike
