there are great songs and singers today, i only wished the young and middle aged boy and girls would give great heart and soul songs like this a listen, crank it up like i like to do and see,and listen to the words one time, your friend, uk writer
This is such an emotional song for lots of folks, it makes us realise what great music is, and Cass Elliot showed us what it is all about. God bless her, we miss her LOADS.
People are going to think that I know you and just backing up what you said. You are damn right on the mark on this! I have the Vogues album with their version on it. It is a masterpiece! I'm shocked anyone else knows about it, but shocked it never charted. Good call!
Oh how sad for you Grangegardener, I hope it's getting better for you with time. I was also married for 32 years but my husband ran off with a floozy 8 years ago - so to me he is dead!!!! Wasted years on someone who wasn't worth it. Hope you will move on.
I'm a person who has an extensive rock n' roll era collection of music owning many thousands of CD's and vinyl records. And, this song is one of my very favorites of all time.
Hard to believe that this gem only made it to #30 on Billboards Chart. It was certainly a much bigger hit in my area (Central Pa.). Same goes for "Make Your Own Kind Of Music". These are songs which many fondly recall, but that are snubbed by (so-called) oldies stations. Go figure....
You're right! BIG in central PA too, and what a voice! Coming from an era of dispair and war, these songs gave you something to feel GOOD about, made you HAPPY!
Yes, it is. And I didn't wanted to make people angry with this comment. I just...I'm scared when I see what happend to my comment. I just wonder...why they do this.
I'm not a big fan of homosexuality, but if what you described works well with the work you mentioned, then I wouldn't thumbs down it. I would only thumbs down it based on the work itself, not my political opinion.
Thought I'd add another comment to make it an even hundred. I just looked up the song because I've had it stuck in my head but couldn't remember all the lyrics, but when I noticed it was a LorelaixLuke vid it made me even happier. Smiles all 'round folks!
Just sent this video to an old friend I've kept in touch with. Its such an uplifting song, I'm sure she'll like it. Mama Cass had a wonderful voice, its too bad she's gone. Thanks for posting.
At the end of this show's run, when the writers began running out of ideas, they should have tried having Luke wear his cap sideways and acting with a little more dopey charm.
Speaking as a Baby Boomer, you can't imagine how grateful my generation is to see the songs and anthems of our youth become associated with images seen while staring brain-dead at the boob tube.
Gilmore Girls is actually a rather well written show, based off the 50's screwball commedies. Maybe if ya'll actually watch the show and realize that it is actually very intelligent maybe you wouldn't feel this way.
Let me assure you young pups out there: speaking as an old coot (60), as long as you have a pulse and a good woman, the sex just keeps getting better-
This is "our song", for my honey and I. It's been our song for the 18 years we've been together, and it's still true...it's STILL getting better every day! :)
While I enjoy the video, I think it's the music sung by "Mama" Cass Elliot that really makes it. She's one of those performers that you couldn't wait to see what great things she has to sing. Cass Elliot was outstanding and she really powered The Mamas and The Papas to meteoric heights. She is sorely missed. "Ah, Girl..." Had to toss a little Beatle lyric in there for good measure. :)
I think one of the reasons they play some older classics on LOST has to deal with the "time travel" aspects. But it's really just the 60's classics that they play, or artists from the 60's...just like Patsy Cline and Petula Clark. Maybe the DHARMA INITIATIVE was founded in the 60's
maybe, and probably coz a producer or someone likes mama cass, as a side note "mama cass's" "make your own kind of music" was also played when we first see desmond and later again in same ep.
but what's ultra cool is that "troubled beardy jack" was listenin to nirvana, if memory serves correctly it was "serve the servants" from in utero.
also my below comment was supposed to be a reply to ominous oracle but the stupid reply feature has a bug or something, anyone else getting this problem????????
I love the songs they put in the series, the ones I`ve always loved, and they don't go for the stupid up to date music, they are great, one think I love most on the series are the old fashioned and greatest ever music.
They are apparently big fans of Mama Cass Elliot. They played her song "Make your own kind of music" in three different episodes.
In the DVD commentary Damon, one of the creators have said that his mother used to hear Mama Cass Elliot while cleaning the house on sundays and cry. So that's why they use a lot of her songs on the show.
