Notice the Petty crew & Maurice wearing shirts with the Ford logo on them while Richard Petty is driving a Plymouth....Petty only drove Fords in 69. Did anyone else catch that?
Citizens Bank Arena is in what dead center of the infield. A CarMax dealership is in T1. A high rise hotel sit in T4, restaurants next to that along the front straight. In Summer 1999, when it was still undeveloped, I walked through the vacant, dusty, weed-infested lot. Amazingly, I found portions of the infield RC, an old Pennzoil can, and some faded, discarded quarter-panel stickers in the dirt. All that is left is the tree-lined berm that separated the back stretch from the street.
As one who was in the stands at turn 4 that day, this clip was nice to see. It was also cool to see Evil make his jump, too bad the movie was so cheesy. I miss OMS, it was an amazingly beautiful speedway, but I guess it was mismanaged into the ground. I once rode in a bicycle fundraiser there, it was a thrill to peddle around that track - a point of view not seen by many. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I love the gas spilling all over the place!!!...lol. There is a hotel and carmax and food joints there now. Look at everyone getting out the way in the pits!!! Is fontucky a better track than OIS? I still have a mint condition 1968 program!!
@Leonefan Or something? I built a shopping center over it Ontario Mills Mall and some homes as well. They did the same with Riverside, this land is very valuable if you haven't noticed. If it cost them 85 Million to build it, how much do you think developers gave the owners???? Same story with Mesa Martin near Bakersfield.
@dj4monie 1) It's Mesa Marin, not Martin. 2) They dissasembled Mesa Marin, but did not build on it. It is currently a dirt bowl with a dirt mountain where the stands used to be and collects tumble weeds now.
I got one minute in and couldn't watch anymore due to those constant and pointless graphics at the bottom of the screen. Why do TV A-Holes do that?

The pop up video format is VERY annoying. Cool footage though.

@snappy452
No kidding. It blocks the view...and do we really need to know what the top songs were in 1971 when we're watching a race???

They build a shopping mall or something over it. I'll be posting the '79 race soon, that was an even bigger barnburner.
