On the other hand, some of the other things are not fish, at least not what biologists define as fish, like the jellyfish, crab and squid.

Whale Sharks are NOT fish. Shark are not fish. They are elasmobranch. They have cartilage instead of bone except their jaws. They do not have air bladders like fish do. So why do people keep on referring to sharks as fish? It's stupidity.

@orionknight12 -- all sharks are elasmobranch, small or large. They have gills like fish, but that doesn't make them fish. Sharks have to keep moving or find a place where there is a circulating current in order to keep breathing (like nurse shark). Fish can remain motionless and still breath. There are many other differences. People generally refer to them as fish, but technically they are not for the reasons I listed.

Whale sharks are Rhincodon and its family, Rhincodontidae (called Rhinodontes before 1984), which belongs to the subclass Elasmobranchii in the class Chondrichthyes. They are still in the sub-class Elasmochanchii. So we are both correct. Since whale sharks are one of 3 types of sharks that mainly feed on plankton, but sometimes feed on small fish, I was wondering whether the Basking shark which is also a plankton feeder as well?
