44:30 How the hell do these people reconcile the fact that the science that gives them the technology to build anamatronic dinosaurs and video screens and ride in airplanes is the same as the science that says evolution is true and the universe is 13.5 billion years old? This is hypocrisy at it's worst!
I don't get why 'moral crisis' should go with religion. If I have a problem, I resolve it by thinking about it rationally and trying to minimize the negative impact. I don't need a god to tell me what is right.
I believe that science and religion are both good at answering different types of questions. (How old is the Earth? What should I do when I feel overwhelmed with despair?) Science knows its limits. I think the challenge for fundamentalist sects is to understand the limits of their belief system and to know which questions their religion is best suited to answer. Natural history? That's for science. Guidance during a moral crisis? That's probably one for religion, though your mileage may vary.
Thumbs down to this program for me.I must've missed where Richard mentioned certainty, 'cause that dude was pissing me the fuck off. But, SERIOUSLY?! "Science becomes *dangerous* when it becomes certain" or some equally stupid shit like that?! Right, because we know religious conviction has never fucking harmed a hair in all of history! FFS!
@christallh24 Science is by definition uncertain. Science proves nothing. It only offers probabilities. Scientists know that, though they often forget it. Science becomes a danger to itself when scientists promote their conclusions as certainties. Theories only hold until contradictory evidence comes along. That's actually one of the many great strengths of science - it's self-correcting. Religions are often absolutist and fundamentally resistant to correction.
"The certainty of people like Richard Dawkins!?!" This guy clearly doesn't know what he is talking about. He doesn't ask Dawkins if he is "certain" that God does not exists, and I don't see how Richard being confident in his assessment about the likelyhood of the NON-existence of Yahweh is any different than 'his' confidence that Yahweh DOES exists. The reason he labels Dawkins as, essentially, closed minded, is because Dawkin's arguments are better than his own.
You gotta laugh when he goes to the Creationist museaum in KY ... whatever your views on religion may be, it's clear that these American fundamentalists are just stir-crazy. They have no brains whatsoever. Kudos to Prof. Winston for not openly smirking at their stupidity.
@UTubeQPoster Whaddya mean kudos? I appreciate your applause of politeness but some shit just needs outright ridicule so as to not legitimize it by our silence. I know what you mean though... Lulz
@UTubeQPoster Maybe u should watch some debates with Creation v Evolution, and u will be very surprised like I was at how badly Evolution is beaten by Creationist. Check out Kent Hovind and watch some of his debates on YouTube, with professors, I was shocked at how bad the theory of evolution is when its debated fairly, that's the question I guess can u watch a debate with open eyes? its very hard I at 1st, I hated the Creationists, until I couldn't hide my ignorance any more, peace. =D
When the Grand Canyon guide was interviewed, and the guide says that he'd decided that the Grand Canyon must have been formed in 4K years (because the Bible says so), I nearly burst out laughing. Whatever else you can say about Prof. Winston, at least he managed to keep a straight face then.
Let me break down this programme for you "Christianity and Islam are nonsense and Judaism is Fact" what load of bullshit total waste of tax payers money and my time.
52:50 the body language and facial expressions say it all. these people are robotically participating in a religious ceremony that they do not truly believe in.
6:32 This sucks. I just wanted to stop at the very beginning but I kept watching until this. Why shoud there be a problem between spiritualism and rationalism. If you believe in something and it works for you, then where's the problem? Of course a miracle would never happen to you Mr since you don't believe. So don't claim you're right about the truth just because spiritualism does't work for you.
@AchaGuitarMan The problem is when those superstitions suppress freedom, imagination, open inquiry. When it asserts false claims and decrees rules of conduct based on flawed understanding, it is a problem. When it retards the progress of humanity by dividing us, it is a problem. When it gives people false hope and fills them with fear of eternal punishment, it is a problem. When it causes what would normally be an intellegent human spout supernatural claptrap, it is a problem.
The probability algorithm is absurd - it doesn't show the existence of God, it shows the probability of belief, as introspectively determined. I expected better of both Robert Winston and the BBC, to be honest. Decidedly poor. I should've known after the uncritical acceptance of Pascal's wager which is decidedly not rational and sceptical.
3. He keeps citing being Jewish. He may he Hebrew, but last time I checked, the Jewish faith has God in there somewhere. Also, I'm all about breaking racial stereotypes, my nigga.
This video has some of the worst arguments for Atheism I've ever heard.
1. I don't think he knows what science is. Puling numbers out of your ass to plug into a probability equation has nothing to do with empirical observation.
2. The Bible never said that the Earth is the center of the universe. The Catholic church said that, but were citing the teachings of Aristotle and falsely claiming it as a God given doctrine.

I dont believe in creationism, but I do believe in Evoloution via Divine intervention
God created the first life on earth weather it was the first microbes, or single celled organisms.
it makes both theories correct, and makes more sense then all "books" and "scrolls"
