  • atlast the dwarfes will shine with Glory!

    Baruk Khazad,Khazad ai-menu!

  • There seems to be some confusion about confusion. I go on a two month journey across the mountains and come back to find some folks still nattering on about one word, taking the same side and speaking because they are ill of silence.

Precision, though appreciable, is no high virtue in the court of lyric when it wastes breath and breeds ire.

I sang it both ways, and it works. I own a copy, but didn't remember the page. I used Google for speed. And I went about my merry way. You might, too.

  • This poem was taken directly from the book, and the lyric is "the wind was moaning" not mourning. Why is this even an argument right now?

  • Thorin Oakenshield: King, singer, friend, badass...I think he might knock Gimli out of the epic dwarf

  • Thanks for uploading :)

  • I think it is 'moaning', of course, because that's what it is in the book...

  • i just love the beginning "Far over..."

  • Hey look ! The dislike bar is like the penis of Justin Bieber !

Wait there have no dislike bar. ..

  • It actually never occured to people to actually check the damn book? Wow...

  • Comment removed

  • the movies make even th imple of song of a book to a emotinal song

  • Personally I liked the book's version better but this is very good I think the voices are perfect.

  • GReat song i love it :D

  • Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old

The pines were roaring in their height,

The winds were moaning in the night

    The fire was red, its flaming spread;

The trees like torches blazed with light.

  • i love the moment when Thorin start singing this is for u Thorin Baruk Khazad! Khazad ai-menu!!!

  • why they didnt making 3 movies about the hobbit :(

  • I don't know what to think about richard armitage as Thorin. Nothing against the guy, but his appearance isn't quite dwarvish enough. His beard isn't long enough. Thorin's supposed to be the oldest dwarf present, but still stout and strong and with a beard going down to his chest. This guy looks like a slightly hairier Boromir.

  • love it :)

  • BARUK-KHAZAD!!!!!!

  • 2 ppl failed in life and 3 can not have a life

  • who would fuck with those bad ass lookin mofo's?

  • Why has nobody made a full version of the song yet??

  • Its mourne and i tell where do i know this...READ THE FUKIN BOOK ITS THERE AND I THINK TOLKIEN WHO CREATED THIS SONG AND THE BOOK ITS BETTER THEN SOME KIDS WHITOUT LIFE.....so believe me when i say its mourne look in the book

  • @NeverWiynter You seem upset? Is everything okay?

  • @NeverWiynter it depends on the edition you have. the only source that is as sure as Frodo's toe hair is Tolkien's manuscript... so stop makin' a fuss about it. If ur angry listen to the song and chill. It's one of the best ones for this kind of situation.

  • now is this song about when Smaug attacked their kingdom or what?

  • @THExMADxHATT3R Yeah. It's when Smaug attacked Erebor, the Dwarven fortress there, and the human town Dale.

  • this song is amazing, dam Peter Jackson knows how to put some good songs in his movies

  • I....Can't... get.... enough.. of this song x__x

  • This song sends a shiver all over my spine and seems to give me new strength

  • I love this song, if I have kids this will be their lullaby

  • this is...waaay too short, need to keep pushing the repeat button O.o

oh I love love love male choirs<3

  • this photo is epic!

  • And THE battle of the 5 armies ofcourse

  • According to the audio commentary for "Fellowship of the Ring" they had a hard time deciding on the kind of music for the Moria scene.

In the end they decided that since the Dwarves were, allegedly, an all-male race, they'd use a deep-voiced all-male choir for the backgrounds.

Looks like they're sticking to that style of music and chorus for this film as well.

And all the better for it as far as I'm concerned because I absolutely adore songs like this and would like to see them heard more.

  • @TheJboy88 Have you already found songs like this?

I´m looking for it, since the Trailer has been released....

  • We dont see gondor and rohan in the this film...

  • @disciiples No but we do see the Mirkwood and the Men of Dale, and the Lonely mountain of course.

  • i love this song but after reading and hearing about the full version of the poem i would like to hear them sing the whole thing

  • Can anyone tell me in general, which type of music should i search that is like thorin's song?

  • @Turgon92 bard songs are kinda like this but scottish heritage songs and gaelic songs can often be like this.

here's some music from 'The Eagle' that sounds kinda like this...

  • @TKane001 No, the dwarves' song doesn't sound Scottish, nor Gaelic but English - like the medieval songs and carols written in England as befits a story that Tolkien wrote to be a mythology for England. (What IS this obsession with Scotland and Ireland?) These songs were written in a similar minor key to Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold. Check out The Coventry Carol or Gaudete by Steeleye Span on YT if you like this sort of sound.

  • @jadehorses1 ok the coventry carol is a choir song and it matches but when i said what it sounded like i meant as in a low voice singing on its own, i know nothing of technical music i just went with what it reminded me of, not it's cultural history. and a by the term 'bards song' i meant medieval folklore songs which were closer to epic tales. i am english by the way so i do know the difference between old english songs and old irish songs :)

  • @TKane001 Sorry. That was a bit sharp of me. No offence, Kane.

  • IT IS SOOOOO GOOD. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!

    TOLKIEN IS GOD

  • YEAH

  • instead of moaning i think the sing mourning.

  • @florisjanpietster I can hear it both ways, though I heard "moaning" more. Before I wrote the transcript, I checked google, and there was about a 10:1 ratio of people who suggested "moaning" to "mourning." Whatever floats your boat, go with it. Fortunately, moaning and mourning aren't very far removed in meaning.

  • @BeardsandBards In the actual song from the book The Hobbit, the word is moaning. (pg. 14, Chp. An Unexpected Party) This song is actually a shortened version. Unless they changed it.

  • @texasravenor i hope thats just the editing for the trailer and they actually have the whole song in the movie, if not im gonna have to sing the entire thing myself using the chords

  • @BeardsandBards Check the book, it's all there.

  • @BeardsandBards It's not decided by Google or who thinks which word is what: I have the book here, and it's 'moaning'.

  • @BeardsandBards Actually they aren't to close. Moaing is a sound produced by the body during sad times or passionate times. Mourning is a emotion felt when a loved one dies.

  • @BeardsandBards It does say 'moaning' in Tolkien's "Hobbit". I really hope that in the movie they will sing the full version of this song.

  • @BeardsandBards read the books retards

  • @BeardsandBards It's moaning, the song comes straight from the novel which I checked for reference and as it is word for word, it would be moaning. But I can see how you would get mourning.

  • @BeardsandBards

    From me to you:)

The pines where roaring on the height,

The winds were moaning in the night.

    The fire was red, it flaming spread;

The trees like torches blazed with light.

The bells were ringing in the dale

    And men looked up with faces pale;

The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire

Laid low their towers and houses frail.

  • @BeardsandBards moaning is what's in the book...

  • @BeardsandBards it says moaning in the book so you got it right :)

  • @BeardsandBards No need for google, read the hobbit! Page fifteen, the winds were moaning in the night. Thanks for the upload.

  • @florisjanpietster If you look at the lyrics from the book it is "moaning"

  • @florisjanpietster

    hobbitstuff.tripod.com/lonesong.htm

  • @florisjanpietster If you go to Tolkien's original song, it is "moaning". However, they are singing with a northern English accent which stretches the vowel sounds and makes it sound like "mourning". Thorin pronounces "cold" in a similar northern English way. When advertising for the part of Thorin, PJ specified actors who could do this accent and Richard Armitage speaks naturally like this although he can do others.

  • @florisjanpietster It's just his accent

  • Instead of christmas songs, I'm singing this all day long :)

  • @CaptainRumi

    same here :)

  • @CaptainRumi me too

  • "awesome" isn't enough to say how incredibly good is this song ;D

  • Does anybody know if they are releasing a full version of that wonder?

It gives me fucking goosebumps, magnificent work well done

  • Thanks alot :D I've been looking for this :D

  • I wanted to hear the, "we must away ere break of day." bit. I know that when I do... an even bigger shiver will run up my spine than the "the winds were moaning..." part.

  • This makes me ridiculously happy

  • la polla

  • god damn .... so epic, tyvm for this upload <3

  • THANKS!

  • Can you make a longer version? :D like one of those 10hour versions? :D

  • @lindahl91 In your address bar, replace with word "tube" with "repeat." It takes you to a free repeater website.

  • @BeardsandBards Lol awesome, didn't know that existed :D Thanks!

  • You sir, You... Are truly a man of LEGEND!

  • love it!!
