  • this was Karen's signature song it makes me sad she kinda hypnotizes me, love her voice!guess well see her on the other side

  • Karen's signature song, you can feel how she identifies with this song. She is one of the great female singers of the 20th century. Thank you Karen for the music that you left us.

  • Una maravillosa voz unica como son unicas las voces de los grandes cantantes en este mundo y tan armoniosas y ritmicas que no necesitan ni la musica de fondo ... gracias Karen

  • Classic Carpenter!!! I grew up with this gorgeous music!!!

So sad that she didn't realise how much her music meant to us

  • On this one I'm sure it is truly a live performance and therefore very special.

  • to bad she had a terrible mental illness, we lost a great voice

  • We love you forever Karen!!! - from Philippines

  • Asked about my favourite singer (s), out of all the hundreds, if not thousands of singers I have listened to critically over the years, decades, I came out with Karen Carpenter and Nat Cole. Those are the gifted two!

  • 3 people cant hear

  • I like how the piano makes sounds before Richard puts his hands on it. :-)

  • Incredible!

  • Incredible!

  • New idea: Instead of American Idol where they find new talent, why not a show where they find 'dead ringer' voices of singers from the past? Just and idea.....

  • Is tis a Human Being(was this) or a kind of Godess? unbelievable ! out of this world, stunning and just absolutey perfect Voice, and to think and hear such disgusting SOB´s like Hasselhof who is a Murderer of Music and STILL living! oh God why just why do you do this ?

  • Gracias por el video. Inolvidable su dulce y hermosa voz.

  • @smokiebird06- You've attempted to gain attention, with the same comment, before. You're not funny, grow up.

  • My eyes get full of tears with this marvelous song. The voice of an angel T_T

  • So sad...I can see the ill health an anorexia. eyes give it away. Such a talent. I loved her

  • @missmonasuzette She wouldn't have anorexia until 1975. This is 1971.

  • @arfies well even if no anorexia yet seems like she didn't look very heathy in this clip.

  • @missmonasuzette I think it's just the lighting/hair/makeup/clothes.

  • @arfies yeh maybe you're right. I remember watching a documentary on her years ago where she was really hung up on her weight for a long time. Such talent with so much going for her. I wouldn't have cared if she was obese. "White lace and promises. A kiss for luck and we're on our way" was my song to my first love. haha

  • I prefer monkey majik doing it

  • the most distinct, most unique, most beautiful voice ever!!!!!!

  • @angelicvoice83 i do agree..she has her own style..it's like she cannot sing out of tune..very very controlled. And she is very expressive even if she is not singing ala Whitney which i think is difficult.

  • What a pro! At 1:25 she goofs! She sings "...wind up with you, with you" instead of the more authorized "...wind up here with you". Yet she doesn't miss a beat or even raise an eyebrow. I would have fallen flat on my face at this point. Way to go, KC! :-D

  • @slmacph No she doesn't. I went back & watched that part and she says "I always wind up here with you..." I don't see where she made a mistake. *confused*

  • Winehouse's hair. rsrs

  • i'm...so so sad she died that way... when she was just...perfect.

  • Proud to say they are from my hometown of New Haven, Connecticut

  • One can never get tired listening to Karen Carpenter. Up till now everytime I hear the songs it sends shivers up my spine ...

  • @deutchie2

I agree. Her voice is like oxygen. You need it everyday :))

  • another magnificent Paul Williams penned tuned taylor made for the exquiste voice of Miss Carpenter--the true melancholy is that she lived and suffffered in such loneliness, mistrust, heartache--

  • i love how she puts her heart into it..

  • Flawless!!!!!

  • yes, she is "one of a kind" Ive shed tears for john lennon, jim croche, patsy cline and my mother when she died, but I will never get over the loss of Karen Carpenter, my heart goes out to her borther Richard. You've touched us all with your music. Thank you, thank you

  • Karen carpenter was the best singer ever. Every song she sang had so many memories attached to it. I miss her so much. I tried to sing as close as I can to her sound. Her music will never die

  • A class of her own, and I hate to say this but modern songs cannot compare to her.

She didn't even require auto tune to sound lovely. (: I wish those times would return. That was probably the golden age of music.

  • Special Song. Carpenters. Karen- Music Remembered.

  • lady GaGa take note...

  • Her voice could make you fall in love..

  • KAREN CARPENTER!

A voice for the ages! Beautiful! One of a kind! The world loved Karen and still does!

Her voice and music was simply beautiful!

  • Even with a slight cold she blows everyone out of the wtater. She's part pop/soul/jazz singer all rolled into one and she sounds incredible even with early limited 70's technology. Thanks for posting EXXON!! The world needs to see what a REAL singer is!!

  • funny but it seems that its the only thing to do..... run and find the one who loves me.....

  • @dougbalt EXACTLY! The thing with Lady Ga Ga is she tries to hard to get people's attention by wearing those insane costumes, they are meant as a diversion. Because SERIOUSLY is a person has real talent, they shouldn't have to try that hard to get peoples attention!!! LOL! That is what I love about Karen, she was such a REAL person, she just opened her mouth and sang and meant everything she sang. THAT is a true artist! And she wore regular clothes!!! :)

  • I like this live version with Richard on a traditional piano and not a synthesizer. It sounds much classier!

  • EAT YOUR HEART OUT LADY GA GA! KAREN WOULD BLOW YOU OUT THE WATER!!!!

  • @maleficentdiva The difference is that Karen can actually sing and didn't need to hooch up her performance because she's all substance.

  • @maleficentdiva I couldn't agree more.

  • Wow... Karen didn't just sing her songs...she lived them.

  • voice of an angel called home way to early she is a superstar RIP KAREN

  • absolutely OUTSTANDING, incomparable music...

  • beautiful voice of an angel

  • always relaxing to listen too

  • Rainy Days and Mon. is the first song I recall very vividly when I was about 11 that I heard on the radio by the Carps. and I also fell in love with her voice . Many folks can still identify these same feelings that come over us. I love Karen with the long hair in these videos even tho she's a bit too thin.

  • Her voice was silenced way too soon.. I guess her voice was needed in heaven. Glad her voice will still be with us forever.

  • A little bit of friendly advice to my fellow Carpenters lovers.....listening to Karen's angelic voice while drinking alcohol WILL make you cry. I'm a 40-something year old man who is considered to be a pretty tough guy. A mans-man. A bit rough, if you will. I'm not ashamed to admit that this performance of Karen and Richards has tears rolling down my face. Beauty unabashed. That's Karen's voice and delivery...straight-up, full-throttle, pure, sock-ya-in-the-gut, simple beauty.

  • @MrWheelie19 I've had that happen a couple of times myself from music - especially the stuff I remember from being a 10 year old in 1969. Don't even get me started about "The Boxer" from Simon and Garfunkel; that ones gets the tears flowing from me, too! All this older music has so much personal meaning as we go through life. Thanks for sharing! ☮

  • Shit, that was fantastic! It is definitely a song that makes you stop and listen.

God, that was just breathtaking. I don't care what mainstream public says, this is not easy listening.

  • What you are seeing here folks is nothing short of a very special, magic moment. What a breath taking performance by a performer that all female vocalist thrive to imitate but none even come close.

  • Funny how nobody gets it is p l a y b a c k!!! Then again, it is the best ever!

  • @thecarpy Funny you think it's playback, because it isn't! Yes, some of the bbc performance was lipsync (such as Help and the Bacharach medley), but this one isn't.

  • @thecarpy I encourage you to really listen to her vocal in this performance. There are obvious differences between this and the recorded version. It is not playback.

  • I've always felt from the way that Karen performs this song that she identified with it. There is just something that goes beyond the words when she sings this.

Anyone else have this same thought?

  • @karenaperville To quote Karen herself.. She was once asked about this very song. "Rainy Days... Oh that song just floors me... It tears me to shreads inside everytime I sing it. I am amazed that I am not bawling my eyes out by the end of it... It cuts that deep.." So yes.. you are right.. She did identify with it on a personal level..

  • I Love you Karen Carpenter!

  • The voice of an angel. Amazing

  • freaking awesome!

  • Karen is sooooooooooooooo AMAZING :) lovely voice!

  • Piano already playing before Richard gets started

  • @Coowallsky No, but he did miss his cue. Nice to see him smile to himself about it.

  • Hands down...eyes closed...feelings of the soul exposed...Karen Carpenter was a beautiful vocal artist untouched in many, many measures..."I am grateful for her talent, verses of lyrical interpretation and the memories engulfed from all she sang...and yes, what a wonderful voice and vocal styling of the natural she possessed...with respect to the etched memories" - "Ez"

  • Best live version of this televised, hands down - remember she was only 21 at this time, but her voice was so much more

  • Her voice is sooo beautiful

  • @soadfan33 I agree with you. She had a beautiful hairstyle but, it doesn't matter how good she looks but, the VOICE is very angelic.

  • ,.i rEALLy

    ,.dO liKE tHAt sOng
