One day I hope that martial artist will all realize a punch is a punch, kick is a kick, a lock is a lock. Reguardless as to weather it is some one from Brazil, America, Asia, Europe, etc. doing it. ALL martial arts are the same atleast at a basic level no matter where they came from or who is doing them. less on where it came from and more on how effective it is, that's what I think.
Not BJJ, Gong Kwon's ground work comes from the same place as BJJ's, from Judo. Gong Kwon's main influences are Hapkido, Judo and Kyuktooki (Korean Thai boxing). BJJ doesn't come into it, nor does Kyokushin Karate, another misconception.
It may look similar but it's not from those styles. There's only a finite number of movements a martial artist can perform, so of course some actions look similar. A zebras stripes don't make it a tiger? Kyuktooki is Korean kick boxing and is heavily influenced by Muay Thai except Kyuktooki wear a dobok (gi). I can understand how people mistake Gong Kwon as BJJ + Kyokushin. But now you know the facts.
Bem que poderia ter aqui em Campo Grande, zona oeste do Rio de Janeiro!
