considering that seems to be John Mayall on keyboard the band is all over the place, think its the drummer getting carried away lol What a surprise! Joke, how do you know there is a drummer at the door? Because it keeps getting faster..
Boy this is a great concert! Sippie Wallace, Albert King among other greats including Junior & Buddy guy! there is a funny part when Junior Wells engage in a rough brush with Mick Taylor on a long solo jam I guess Wells didn't appreciate Taylor's passive demeanor when Albert King was calling him out to solo, one word AUTHENTIC. If I am not mistaken Sippie died not long after it..last appearance I believe. God bless them all
From a DVD entitled "Jammin w/ the Blues Greats"...John Mayall, Mick Taylor, John Mcvie, Colin Allen....paying homage to some of the immortals...Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, Albert King, Etta James..
Junior Wells is MANUFIQUE'. Discovered him tonight on here. Buddy is cookin'. Those other guys must be local pickups playing catchup. I like the bass licks. The CP80 sounds horrible and so do the chops. I wished I was up there playin it with some Pinetop polish.
I play his original recording of 'Hoody Man Blues' a few times each week.I still love it after so many years, and his pronunciation of 'Louisiana'' in the song is so cool! A gem of a recording with Elmore on guitar it can't get much better!
one time in Montreaux, junior and buddy's backing band was so bad , bill wyman came out of the audience and fired them off the stage, and took over , with ronnie wood steppin in, too
yea definitely not a low down blues rhythm section thats for sure! lol must be the first time they've heard this song let alone played it..they sure roughed up a classic pretty good lol
you can hear the band fine in the video. im talkin bout the band, other than buddy obviously, messing up the breaks and then stumbling outta the breaks. right in the begining junior gives the signal to break then he just shakes his head and smiles. the song goes from a long 1 chord to quick changes thru out and they just keep on doin the long breaks the whole way. thats why i said must be first time theyve heard the song let alone played it lol
yeah yeah . . . . it is the blues, played in backwoods juke joints, no way it is gonna meet ya 21st century scrutiniezin' . . .. . . roll with the flow bro . . .
yea so?...im not saying j.mayall isnt a good musician..the whole band is seizing up the song, mainly the rhythm section, like i said...have you ever heard "dont start me talking"..?? then you'd know what im talkin bout...
"From the Dark alley in the south side of Chicago to the dark alley in the north side , young kid throwing bottles , stealing marbles and one day he decided to blow the harp! Junior Wells ladies and gentlemen".. Albert King at this same concert :)
He got mistreated and mocked badly at the end of this concert , he almost fought with Junior, those men are hard and he wasnt keeping his cool I guess! LEGENDS.

I got this DVD. I thought it was bootleg, but one of the best i ever bought.
John Mayal, his bluesbreakers and special guests (albert king, too - he got pissed at the band lol)
The song messin' with the kid they played at this concert is, for me, one of the 5 top blues performances ever.

It may be that the recording is not picking up the background instruments that well and not that they are not playing well.

Junior's suit is excellently tailored and fits him perfectly (like the old time blues men.) Isn't that Mayall and Buddy Guy in there too?
