i am going to be one of those girls one day...i dance for manutahi orlando...i am going to be entering as a soloist for the first time this march here in the orlando tahiti fete...
hey sistah - from one manutahi dancer to another...you can do ANYTHING you put your heart and mind to. will we be meeting you at the Macy's thanksgiving day parade? good luck and aloha!
Do you know how the second girl did her pareo? Did she use two pareos? I've seen a couple of vids of girls with that style and I wanted to know how it was done. Mahalo.
"down up side, down up side"??? hmmm.... is that what you call that move? You really know what you're talking about. And what happened to your comment about RAYON? The 4th girl was wearing it.
Actually...@ San Jose you ARE allowed to roll & wear rayon...@ Merced...you're not allowed to roll and you have to wear cotton. Congrats again to all the soloist!
hey bryson! it was great meeting you in San Jose! Thanks so much for catching some of our soloists! The pictures you took were fabulous! kudos to you and your craft! More great news...we did an awesome job at the Polynesian Cultural Center this past weekend also! MAURUURU and Mahalo Nui Loa. Hope to see you again soon! Please give Pam my aloha as well!
Thats what I thought.... it was final that you cant have it rolled.. but a lot of girls had it rolled.. not sure if they were leanient this year... and plus everyone at fete all the kumu's were surprised at the results... so there was kind of a drama with the results of everything
Iaorana. Sorry for snooping, just curious about the rules when it comes to rolling the pareo when doing a comp like this...I know that they do both in Tahiti, but I don't know how they do it in the US. Is it because when you roll it, it seems to move faster when you shake your pareo?? And the same when it comes to the fabric. What are the rules in general for wearing cotton or rayon...? I'm not a dancer, just curious about how you guys do it in the US... =)
well for most of the solo competetions i've done here in the US we are not allowed to roll of pareo and it has to be cotton but who knows it might diffrent there cus im from hawaii so yea
Ahha. thanks for the info (R3cH3 & Fanaura) =) I'm just a guy who loves polynesian culture especially Tahitian. mauruuru

you sew it to your wrap... or you could take a strip of cloth and flod it over the top of the wrap to make it look the same way...
bootyshaker08 3 years ago
you can use bias and sew it onto the fold, which is the cleaner way.

It's all different, depending on who's running the competition.
The competitions I've been in, we had to wear straight pareos, no rolls, but if you roll you get points deducted. It didn't matter on the fabric.
R3cH3 3 years ago 2
Does it look faster, and smoother when you roll the pareo, is that why you can't roll?
Gille87 3 years ago
Ya, pretty much. Your faarapu's look more full than what it really looks like. It kind of gives it a little umph.
R3cH3 3 years ago
Don't you get points knocked off for rolling your pareu?? I thought that was official rules in the Tahiti Fete? Just curious..
