If it has a history of escaping like that, then why wait for it again to escape. Even with no prior record of attacking, the dog clearly was in attack mode on a public street (not on its private property fenced in). If this was a kid walking by, it would have been a different story. Let's not be to hasty in blaming the dog. Most dogs have an instinct to protect their homes and owners. The cop was a total stranger to the dog (the dog doesn't know it's a "cop" for crying out loud) and was pacing back and forth in the middle of the street. Eventually the dog perceived him as a threat and attacked him. I work a lot with large dogs, and many, MANY good dogs would have done the same thing. If the cop had been strolling along like any pedestrian, the dog would have ignored him.
If people actually watched all of this... the dog has a history of breaking from the leash... charged at the cop as seen... the cop used better judgement and used a Taser on the dog rather than used a weapon, which COULD end up hurting a kid or bystander... The Dog will be alright, but may also get the dog to NEVER Charge at anyone again if it learned its lession. I rather have THIS outcome than a dead dog, or a injured/Maimed Person.

If it has a history of escaping like that, then why wait for it again to escape. Even with no prior record of attacking, the dog clearly was in attack mode on a public street (not on its private property fenced in). If this was a kid walking by, it would have been a different story. I'm a dog lover, but let's face it, owners who have aggressive dogs that attack should be warned if their dogs escape and try or hint to attack someone, should be taken away from them.

Let's not be to hasty in blaming the dog. Most dogs have an instinct to protect their homes and owners. The cop was a total stranger to the dog (the dog doesn't know it's a "cop" for crying out loud) and was pacing back and forth in the middle of the street. Eventually the dog perceived him as a threat and attacked him. I work a lot with large dogs, and many, MANY good dogs would have done the same thing. If the cop had been strolling along like any pedestrian, the dog would have ignored him.

If people actually watched all of this... the dog has a history of breaking from the leash... charged at the cop as seen... the cop used better judgement and used a Taser on the dog rather than used a weapon, which COULD end up hurting a kid or bystander... The Dog will be alright, but may also get the dog to NEVER Charge at anyone again if it learned its lession. I rather have THIS outcome than a dead dog, or a injured/Maimed Person.
