WOW mixed woman are beautiful woman , i guess it's that opposites
attract thing going on,im half italian and half german so i find im attracted to both real white woman like my wife dutch and dark woman like MARLO,dam was she good looking im lost,i dont know what i like,i guess i like them all, typical man, LOL
Not; a bad-show. 'That-Girl', sort-of began the MTM kind of Independent Woman genre' tv show. Remember Smoke N' Mirrors. Marlo required a LOT of Smoke, to improve her dark-Arab features, inherited from Good Ol' Danny (Thomas).
@teddy821 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Having dark features or Arabic features can be different but different doesn't mean they are any less beautiful, it's just a different type of beauty. In fact, in another episode in the series, her sister Rose makes an appearance and definitely has more of an exotic look than Marlo but she is stunning. I understand you have your opinions, but it might help to be more openminded and expand your definition of beauty.
this was my mom's favorite show..she wanted her kids to explore the world but she couldn't..widow with 3 kids to educate and she did it! Mom died much too soon..I think That Girl was a kind of escape for her, but she encourages us kids to see the world, taste it, and savor it...just brings back some wonderful memories.
Recuerdo esta serie en mi infancia, era transmitida a mediodía por CVTV canal 8, Caracas Venezuela, llegaba de la escuela a ver mi novia de niño, Marlo Thomas, gracias por el video
MeTV is showing That Girl now, I haven't seen these shows since they were originally aired ! Thanks so much for these videos. Marlo Thomas is unbelievably cute, and very funny too. I miss characters like hers, it seems that all of the female characters these days are so slutty. It's sad, really. Also, the music is fantastic. Earle Hagen wrote the theme music, in the commentary they credit someone else for the program interior music but I think that's Hagen too, isn't it ? Thanks again!
Good but not great show - thanks for posting --brings back memories---I could never figure out how an aspiring actress with no full time job had such a terrific apartment and immense wardrobe, but it worked. Also being Danny Thomas' daughter didn't hurt either. Bet she endured a lot of resentment from those who worked themselves up or couldn't get a break because their names were "Smith" "Jones" or "Nobody".
Thanks for posting. I was so young when this show was out I thought it was called "Batgirl"! I wondered why she never wore her costume and fought crime as she did when she appeared on "Batman".
That Girl was a favorite of mine. The show ran from 1966 thru 1971 which would make me at ages 7 thru 12 respectfully. The thing I enjoyed about the show were Anne Marie's cloths. I also liked the scripts and the music. (I have a ear for music). I wouldn't mind getting the DVDs should they become available. It would allow me to gain maybe even a different perspective than I did watching it first as a child. Thank you for sharing.
This show presented a character of the inter-relationships I found both sweetly entertaining and warmly humorus. A lovely woman made this happen-thanks
@wheresthebeeph I disagree. I always thought Don was 'too' good for Ann at times. Always bailing her out of any trouble she would find herself in. He really was the perfect boyfriend. I love the ending scene in the episode "Help Wanted" where he tells her to write dictation as his secretary, & the content of the dictation is an apology. Or in "All's Well that Ends" where he puts an exhausted Ann to sleep and leaves this beautiful note on her bed. In my opinion, Don was amazing!
@wheresthebeeph ...... she also could have done a lot WORSE than Donadl Hollinger too! At least Donald didn't beat her or get her pregnant out of wedlock or steal her things in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again!
Also, Marlo Thomas is simply gorgeous. I think I could watch her with the sound off and enjoy the show based on her radiance alone. I guess I'm getting old, because the naïveté, simplicity, and glamor on display in shows like That Girl make the past seem so much more appealing than the present.
@Beorning1972 It's an illusion. Your mind is playing tricks on you. Look to the present or the future. The past is nice to look back on, but don't be consumed by it.
@Beorning1972 You're not getting old. Us girls still exist! I think the good girl doesn't get enough praise nowadays but another user was right. The actress, Zooey Deschanel, is a lot like That Girl in her TV show, New Girl, on FOX. You can find it on Tuesday nights. My favorite show! I think you would like it!
Thanks for posting this!! I was born in '72 and with very, very few exceptions the shows I grew up on were the classics of the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. These shows were like a special trip to a restaurant in a distant city. TV now is more like a gigantic buffet where you don't find the good stuff till you've sampled so much you feel stuffed and bloated.
Can you believe next week will mark the 45th anniversary of when "That Girl" first aired on ABC? As that weren't enough, it will come on the exact date it first premiered! (Thursday, September 8th)
La recuerdo en mi infancia, en Venezuela ESA CHICA! fue transmitida hasta 1978 por VTV canal ocho, Marlo Thomas era la cica de mi sueños cuando yo tenía11 años.
When a TV series is first proposed to a TV network, they often ask for a "pilot episode"- to see if their executives, potential sponsors, and eventally, "test audiences", will like it. In most cases, the original "pilot episode", IF the series is bought by the network, may undergo slight or extensive changes before it finally appears at the start of the new TV season. In the case of "THAT GIRL", ABC asked that Ted Bessell's character NOT be an "American Indian", or Ann Marie's agent....
...and there were other changes: Harold Gould and Penny Santon were replaced as Ann Marie's parents by Lew Parker and Rosemary DeCamp in the series. So, the "pilot" had to be refilmed...and the result is what you see in the first part.
@AntiqueAngel44 It's called a "Flip". I had a brunette Francie doll from the late '60's and she had a flip. I would wrap my index finger around the back of her neck and brush the ends of her hair up in shape. I wear a shorter version of a flip with my bangs combed off to the side. I think that it's a flattering hairstyle for ladies.
Interesting that Marlo Thomas (in her comments) is looking at this almost as if she's seeing it for the first time. Seems a little strange that she doesn't remember (most of this), but it was over 40 years ago.
One of my favorite "reruns" growing up! And BTW Marlo Thomas still looks good today.
I remember this show. I remember when their plane crashed Donald didn't stay in her bed and when they went out of town together she wouldn't even step into his hotel room. Times have changed.
My mother told me this was the show to watch for woman wanting to cut the ties to the kitchen and be a member of the work force.
Funny, in watching this i see how much my mother imitated Marlo's style right down to the hair and snack vending job lol. but that was all that was ready available to most woman back then
I really am enjoying this so much, thank you for uploading this.
@killersfromouterspac in 1967. i was 10 years old. 1 cent for a bazooka joe bubble gum. movie theatre ticket for a child 60 cents , adult 90 cents, a bag of wise potato chips 5 to 10 cents, nyc subway 15 cents, & so on. things were so much more in prospective @ that time. this THAT GIRL series was so fun to watch. it gives me chills just to see NYC @ that time. enjoy. ****
