This film is what Spike Lee meant when he says what he says about Tyler Perry's shows. Specifically that tv show, the I don't really car efor anyway! I do like Why did I get married 1&2, but that's pretty much all I like from Perry. Haven't seen For Colored girls yet!
LooK.... If YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS, no1 can take that away from YOU. but IF YOU wanna act like YOU don't know WHAT TIME IT IS, then your gonna b left on the side line with the rest of the complacent and ignorant ...is that really where YOU want 2 be? If not then ....WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP......." Please WAKE UP"
In this video, I didn't see any jews so what the hell you talking about? The man said holocaust and now people have this mentality is jews. You will be surprise that the first holocaust was in congo. Look it up.
I don't even think people understand (or care) how prophetic this movie was in predicting the "Reality TV" boom of the last decade. "Flavor of Love: 1, 2, 3", "I Love New York: 1, 2", "New York Goes to Work," etc. All forms of modern-day minstrel shows. Say want you want about the man, but Spike saw it comin'.
@PhireMadeFlesh So did Sidney Lumet with "Network" and Elia Kazan with "A Face in the Crowd".
Spike Lee made it more Afro-centric and massive - not around the network executives trying to milk the insanity out of people, but about the people who watched those shows.
Seriously? Do you even have the most rudimentary understanding of history. The first people known to be ensalved because of their race was the jews by Egyptians. While the Egyptians had Nubian (black) slaves as well, Nubian still had a homeland. First of all its stupide to have a contest over who suffered more. Second, the Jews were enslaved by Eygpt, Assyria, Rome, and Germany tried to exterminate them. You can't just say blacks suffered more without any evidence. What is this comment based on?
to add to Igloboos point.. if u consider blacks r denied the dignity of their claim that slavery in the US was unlike any other slavery in existence then u have a group of disenfranchised people left without a tru voice and not truly heard..
thas y i posted this series.. to help illuminate the DISCUSSION of what the races r doing with each other.. ur comments guan help show this tremendously.. u actually state that blacks living today r not affected yet i humbly suggest..
.. that similar to the vietnam phenom of post-traumatic-war-syndrome.. blacks have and still suffer from something labeled post-traumatic-slave-syndrome..
there is no equivalent in the planets history to the defamatory treatment endured by the black slave in the US.. entire cultures were ripped apart.. societies dissolved and associations between kin demolished. instead of just decimating the population, a systematic HATRED of black culture has permeated society.. this must be understood..
"slavery in the US was unlike any other slavery in existence". Why? In Jews weren't considered people by Egyptians, Romans, and Germans. My point? Don't have a contest over human suffering. Blacks had it very, very bad. But so did alot of other people. I find it in poor taste to say 'oh I had it worse'. All that does is anger people and belittle their suffering. Your better off just saying blacks had it so bad that it can't be described by words, and then leave it at that.
Why would Jewish people need to complain when their story alreadly pervades the discourse on human suffering. Black people complain because they simply want a little recognition (after all, Jim Crow laws didn't end until the late 60's).
This is not to compare two horrific historical events (personally, I hate it when people do that). Why can't we just accept that both events were horrible and if forgotten, will likely happen again--for all cruel acts are foremost acts of hegemony.
What the Jews had to deal with, as far as I know, is long gone in the past. Black people have to deal with this shit everyday 2009, 2010, whatever. It's not that we are complaining... it's because ppl like you are trying to take our voice and make statements like we are complaining when we just want some1 to hear us so that it would stop.
What about the holocaust! That's 70 years ago and the Jews are still victims of racism today as their country is surrounded by Islamic countries who deny their right to exist as people, deny that the holocaust happened, and openly advocate that the "Jew must be exterminated". That's a recent quote from Iran's PRESIDENT Ahmadinejad. I can't help point out the irony of you complaining about people 'taking (black peoples) voice" while you disregard the voice of Jews.
Yea but thats the difference.. we are not talking about Jews... we are talking about black people. You need to go watch a youtube video that speaks about the struggle with the holocaust and comment about them. Do not try to change the objective stay on point.
Agreed. But MANY of the comments on this video were from people claiming either the black or the jew had it worse than one or the other. My point was simply that placing one groups suffering above anothers belittles the suffering of one group. In that sense I was staying 'on point'. So interestingly Im trying to agree with you in a way, in that I feel there is no need to discuss Jews in a discussion of black suffering. But I didn't bring it up.
What "Country" are you referring to? Comparing "Jewish Holocaust" to the "Maafa", is like comparing sandstone to diamonds. There is an OBVIOUS deference.
Surely, If you ask someone who they consider the worst person to ever exist, I am almost certain they would answer Hitler. Yet, if I ask you about the Middle Passage or the history of Africa prior to Slavery (that whole notion of the Dark Continent is a complete myth by the way), or anything else pertaining to Slavery, would you be able to tell me. And a little side note, notice how in general the Holocaust is capitalized, whereas Slavery is simply "slavery" in the lower case.
I know I have read more on the Holocaust within the United States educational system than I have Slavery ("The Diary of Anne Frank" and "Night" are common examples)--and I can't even begin to parallel the number of film on the Holocaust to films on Slavery.
It's not sick, it's just what everyone is thinking but are too afraid to say. Then when some poor fool does say it, the same people would just turn the other cheek.
It's funny, Jews don't walk around complaining about the holocaust, which happened only like 70 years ago. But black people keep going on and on about how whites enslaved them when no one from that time period is even alive today. Pathetic really.
As an actual Jew, I hear about the Holocaust all the time! The Holocaust has an effect on who most American Jews vote for. How do you think the ADL became so powerful?
The only difference, is that before the Holocaust, many European Jews had respectable jobs and skills. They knew how to read and write, many were doctors or lawyers, and many were college-educated.
Considering the fact that black slaves had over 400 years without any progress, I think they have reason to complain.
I think it's just personal view but if you go to a country like Bahrain, the corruption keeps races down so that the whites and Arabs are well off & mostly have the best jobs. Then you get the Filipinos, Indians, & Sri Lankans at the bottom doing almost all the same work that blacks did. & With how little their pay is, it's almost as if they are slaves. If you see these people, they have far more to complain about than blacks do but they don't. They just put up & shut up.
The point is, these people are still getting this unfair treatment today. Black people are not experiencing slavery & haven't ever in their life (unless they are in Africa in some poverty stricken area, but they are not the same black people I'm talking about).
Instead of going on about it & being pissed, black people in UK/USA should be thankful that at least they are living in countries where they have opportunities & aren't walking for miles in the blistering sun trying to find water.
The vast majority of black Americans are thankful to live in a relatively free country. I think it was Chris Rock who said "When you're black, America is like your uncle, but the uncle who sexually abused you when you were younger."
So I'm sure most are content with being Americans, but also have a need to remember where they came from. I'm a Jewish third-generation American and I can even relate to most of that.
It's interesting that you say Jewish people don't walk around complaining about the holocaust; whereas black's complain about Slavery all the time. Yes, you have a point. However, how often do you hear about the Holocaust in the mainstream media in comparison to Slavery, which actually took place in this very country (the U.S).
I hear way more about racism towards blacks, on mainstream media than Jews. I'm not trying to win an argument here, all I'm saying is that them black folks should be more appreciative of where they are. And as for the black folk still in Africa, you snooze you lose.
I would really appreciate it if you would not speak for other ppl and speak for yourself. If you don't like hearing about what we deal with on a daily basis then suggest you get an ounce of common sense and stop watching the clip. This is for people with open minds that want to learn about people that live on this earth (ppl they have to live with on this earth.) I suggest you get right and do the same or get lost, dude.
