This enseble is FANTASTIC. Can one purchase these performances on DVD or BluRay? Exactly who are these people, and is there a formal title for this or any other of thier video productions which you have posted? Thanks.
! ! Merci Youtube ! Merci à l'Aura Soave !
In the 18th Century directions like Largo, Allegro weren't so much speed directions as indications of the character of the piece. For instance, Andante = with pace and Largo = broadly. You can play broadly without playing slowly - and since baroque instruments, for all their accuracy and expressivity, are not built to play long sustained notes, it's safe to assume (along with other evidence in support) that 'slower' movements were considerably faster than we'd be comfortable playing them today.
Beautiful. The first movement is probably my favourite out of the whole set of the Avison/Scarlatti arrangements. His use of textures is so advanced and innovative. An outstanding performance too, I like the fact the harpsichord drops out in the 3rd movement, but why is there no continuo supporting the concertino? The chitarre would be perfect for that.
@ensemblelaurasoave My apologies, I heard it in the 3rd movement but not elsewhere, it blended so well with the concertino. I blame the poor sound quality on youtube. =D
@THIERRYMERLE Connaissez-vous la version de l'Academy of St. Martin in the Fields ?
Grazie!
Absolutely amazing. Beautiful music and performance.

Questa interpretazione è migliore:

A French ensamble called "Cafe Zimmermann" did a very good recording on this theme. Have a look into their homepage. Regards

@hangeva -- For my money, the Brandenburg Consort recording, under Toy Goodman, is pretty fantastic.

this is great!! But is the first part not rather fast? It says 'largo' on the score... But I admit it works very good!

Actually, the texture reminded me alot of th second movement of Vivaldi's concerto for 4 violins in B minor.
These are such wonderful pieces.

I think they wanted to highlight the contrapuntal nature of the movement.
