  • I defy you to listen to this and not feel your heart break

  • WHAT? But I wanted to see the same pictures I've seen in dozens of other videos....I feel gypped.

  • what kind of horrible human being could've given this a vote down? :(

  • ...this could cure even Ophelia

  • He's god!

  • the vibrato and sustain on the words, with your wounded eyes and your sailor's mouth,, fucking kills me everytime man ,, TOM i love you, cos your a romatic and a dark mother rolled into one,, KEEP ON ROCKING

  • I used to think I just wanted to be like Tom Waits.... I have found I am now consumed by the idea... I would steal one of his kidneys on the off chance that it would help my song writing. He'd wake up in a bath tub of ice in Mexico going "Crap they took my kidney!" and I'd wake up cussing my second hand kidney from a man who smoked gravel, and drank kerosene! If it's any consolation Tom you can have the kidney I'm not using... If it makes you feel better.... King of the gutter he is! Love it!

  • As with a lot of his great songs co-written with kathleen brennen.

  • This song gets me every time. The words surprise me still.

  • i've had this song on repeat for days.

    lyrical genius.

  • This is one of my favorites.

  • The music is so brilliantly arranged to his singing

  • HA!!

  • Perfection for the Doll....

  • niesamowita piosenka. jedna z ukochańszych Toma.

bardzo, bardzo często myślę tak o ludziach.

    tak smutne, że prawdziwe.

  • I love this song. I crie everytime I hear it. I'm sure he made this song listening to my thoughts, feeling my feelings, loving me...it's made of the same material my soul is made of.

I love Tom Waits. He touches my heart so much. <3

  • waits at his best

  • This truly is oen of the greatest records ever made. Scarlett's version is good, but this, as with all Waits' material, is something else entirely.

  • best song ever made.

  • You hit your head.

  • you're fucking deaf and the quintessential example of wasted breath

  • @molecularash No need!

  • "You look rather tired. Are you pretending to love?"

And, in an attempt to catch the maybe 1 Tom Waits fan in 10000 who doesn't know Dylan, I'd like to recommend "Blonde On Blonde" if you like the lyric examples posted here.

  • tell me who are you this time

  • When I feel polluted by all of the inane and inauthentic billion dollar filth in our culture I listen to Tom and feel cleansed. Songs like this are actually hymns.

  • this song gets me right in the gut.

  • A fantastic song, win a real live doll, thje lyrics is amazing. Then Scarlet J/Bowie made a mess of it. It´s difficult to not feel a tear when a hear Tom in this song.

  • song reminds me when we're laying in my bed half naked & ask you if you wanted to hear the greatest song ever written.

  • soooo good aaaaargh, so sad and real, fuck!

  • "How do your pistol and your Bible, and your sleeping pills go? Are you still jumping outta windows in expensive clothes?"

Fell over the lyrics by accident, listen to the song, loved it.

    Been there done that kinda.

  • Ahh, one of my absolute favourite Tom Waits tracks. Sadly it doesn't seem to be that well known and doesn't get much credit.

"How do your pistol and your Bible, and your sleeping pills go? Are you still jumping outta windows in expensive clothes?"

"I fell in love with your sailor's mouth, and your wounded eyes."

    Magical lyrics!

It's also a shame that he doesn't seem to have performed this track live at all. I would love to see some footage of this song being played.

  • C mon you can not beat the line: "I did my time in jail of your arms" ! - BTW isn't that a strange notion when you realize that Scarlett J. is apparently among those very few who get how great this song is, since she recorded it on her album?

  • no.

  • i want this song playing over my grave. Over and over.

  • oh, how this song rips my heart out. *sigh*

  • not the best video i ever seen ,bit too lively for my liking . however one of my favourite songs ever , thank god (or just natural selection evelution ) for tom xxxx

  • Thanks!!!

P.S.: If you own the complete CD (bone machine), it would be very cool if you could post 'a little rain' (i can't find it anywhere else). THX again
