Another country gets one good athlete like Usain Bolt or Rezazadeh and they think they are hot shit. Obviously we have the best swimmer in the world in michael phelps but he isnt the reason we kick everyone elses asses in the olympics.
I think the person who made this video should just leave out the audio completely when showing the slow-motion replays. It's confusing to have the audio play at normal speed while we're seeing the slow-motion replays. It would be better still if you inserted a screen with a label to indicate that we're about to see a slow-motion replay.
I was always told that when lifters clean the bar they jump slightly so as to move their feet a little wider. This I found hard as I would always move my feet too far apart.
Chad doesn't move his feet when he cleans the bar. I'll have to give the clean and jerk a try with my feet remaining in position.
The clean and jerk is, and I'm a powerlifter, one of the best all round exercises.
You feet should leave the ground slightly. I wouldn't watch americans for an idea of the best technique. Though chad is a great lifter, its just America can't compete with a lot of the great countries were weightlifting is more popular and they have amazing athletes.
@desembodic Hey man, if you're going to talk shit about the US/American athletes then screw you. It's true that the Americans aren't running away with weight lifting championships, and that weight lifting isn't nearly as popular here as in other places, but you don't have to be such a douche.
Why is the US not competitive at Olympic weightlifting? Just not popular here? Strong guys go in to powerlifting here? No tradition in it here? All of the above? Something else?
@nomilkforsanta It's such a shame that the great athletes in the United States choose to play one of the three more popular sports: baseball, basketball or football. There are a lot of damn strong football players that could be good Olympic weight lifters but they don't ever get to see their potential.
Well this guy placed second in the snatch with decent technique, but definitely not polished enough. Look at the 137, he was really slow under the bar.
In the US 145 gets you second place? In Spain it's around 165 (same weight class). Spain is a little smaller than the US.
@kettlebellconvert Screw those people. If they see problems with the United States they need to do what they can to fix them/influence politicians to fix them.
olympic weightlifting is one of the hardest sports out there and i think all of those out there that practice this sport are worthy of respect. someday i want to become a lifter too!
actually i have a pretty solid idea how hard it is, i lift weights and i struggle a lot with exercises like the front squat which is an essential for any olympic lifter. i know i'll have to work insanely hard, but with determination and proper trainig almost any goal can be achieved.
