  • 8 people really enjoy faderhead

  • I hate the 80's and this is decent

  • The best 1983 had to offer..

  • So Nitzer Eb technically stolen the aestetich from this band and called their techno/ebm shit industrial?

  • Now THIS. THIS is industrial.

  • Drone!

  • this is so funny - it sounded like people banging on bin lids - i think it is a master piece

  • Yay, the 80's. See it wasn't all 'Wham' and 'Whitesnake'.

  • These were a really influential band who just disappeared for some reason. I love this stuff more than I can say.

  • I want to bang on bits of metal now.

  • starej dobrej industriál

  • Wow I can't see Industrial the same way again.

  • i don't get this video...

  • It's my favourite song of TD....It's a pure industrial music just like early Neubauten...First time I've seen and heard them in 84 in Polish TV-I was shocked-what a sound and strange lookin' band. They've played on footbal stadium and my big brother said-"Look at them! They are playing on metal dustbins!!!".That's why I'm still a big fan of TD....

  • Diggin'it ! ! !...

  • what a art. pure life.

  • REAL industrial. And that vid is rad.

  • amazing band indeed! this track and "fist" from the unacceptable face of freedom were the ones that inspired me to appreciate old school industrial! :)

  • Dude. I watched tis three times in a row.

  • Got a hammer? Find a nail!

  • Now that Enisturzended Nubauten have gone all mellow on us (Still great though :) )

We need more new bands smashing metal like this!!

  • Einsturzende Neubaumten are just as good as those guys, some songs are even better. This guys always have to put this stupid electro 80's snare drum on everything. It ruins the song in a big %number

  • wow bity that fucking rocks

  • in the ecstasy uner duress

  • In witch alburm i could find this?

  • Beating a Retreat

  • awesome video and song, I regularly drive to work playing this song.

  • Test Dept you are not in vain. My daughter's elementary school have inherited the good sense to incorporate the likes of similar in their concerts. If there is a god bless you for your beautiful efforts. I've fond memories of you.

    Long Live Test Dept!!!!!!!!!

  • where do I get a test dept t-shirt?

  • ebay of course

  • Make one.

  • This.....is fucking unreal. I'm never going back to grind or metal.

  • my dad made this video =)

hes the one with the big air sprayer thing =)=)

  • @bilty93 was he in the band or he just made the video? Are there some others? This is beautiful.

  • I Love this Song!!!!! Screw the stupid shit on the radio today, bring back Industrial!!!

  • Awesome!

Thank you SO much for posting this.

  • congratulations. today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation. way to go.

  • It's funny how stuff like this would be in the mainstream from time to time. We need a new MTV that plays shit like this all the time. I mean Youtube is great, but we need to force in peoples faces. Maybe one day.

  • completely agree wiv u mna, we need a decent music channel that plays shit like this.

  • Awesome, raw power.

  • Great band, perhaps even the best. Unfortunately they are no longer active, but take a look at the Belgian industrial percussion band Militia and find a great band as well and... still active !!!

  • Im very happy to have discovered another real Industrial band (but one that isn't heaps electronic yet unstructured (bad IMHO) like TG...)

This is like Neubauten yes!!! I want some!

  • I remember seeing Test Dept. at the now long gone I-Beam on Haight Street here in San Francisco, CA around 1984. I've been hooked ever since! Great video - much thanks!

  • I have this on VHS somewhere...managed to "find" test dept. in Riverside, CA aka Shithole USA mid-late 80s...later output too techno for my taste but the early stuff was head and shoulders above the crowd.

  • It wasn't difficult, all you had to do was find out where the independent record stores were at in the big cities, and they might order it for you if they could find the record company, MTV actually played this several times during prime time, just to freak out the jocks who listened to Poison. That was when MTV was daring instead the crap they have now.

  • wow great industrial music. was this stuff hard to find in america during the 80s?

  • We dance to the rhythm of the steel industry. STOMP STOMP STOMP.

  • Cool... I never thought I'd finally watch the video 24 years after buying the single.

  • This is extremely difficult to find! I saw this video yrs. ago and have searched in vain for the single or even an album that contains this song but no luck! anybody know of its availability in this day and age?

  • try the "Beating the Retreat" digipack released this year.

  • Some of their videos were almost sexy. There's something about these testosterone fueled hard working-semi naked and sweaty bodies..and that urban, tribal rythm...Shame about one of their 1980's performance abroad:it got interrupted by skinheads setting the venue(a factory)on fire. No one reacted at first, we thought the flames were part of the act!

  • what like madonna - vogue?? haha

  • I do so agree with you, Ms. Starsaphire!

    And I miss you...

  • great vid!

    early virtual reality

  • this is compulsion. produced by kirk / mallinder of cabaret voltaire and flood if i remember rightly

  • My mistake, this is what the file was named on the CD I think. But thanks for the correction.

  • I had the extreme pleasure of seeing them in '97..and it is still one of the top 3 best live shows I have ever seen in my 36 years. The energy, the passion of what they were doing, the extreme focus. They did industrial the right way.

  • @frenchbloke it's also on the dvd for "Test Dept - Program for Progress"
