The quills really hurt at first but they get softer every time he quills. At first the hedgehog is still nervous about a new owner so its hard to pick him up.
@toes526 If you hold them gently, it doesn't really hurt, but even a little squeeze while they're pricked will be uncomfortable. Not really pain, because nobody who has a pet hedgehog would squeeze it so hard as to be painful. If you're really sensitive to pricking pain, then I suppose it may hurt, but not much. When your hedgehog is relaxed it's bristles are in a downward, "combed" condition that doesn't hurt at all when they're being handled.
@367candycane its all in the way your hold em, that and knowing not to apply too much pressure to them. Like porcupines, their quills are sharp, or at least, very pointy, but the majority of the damage is done either when A. the agressor strikes at the hog/pine and meets quills(think slamming your hand into a bucket of pins and needles) Or B. in the case of porcupines, it purposely smacks the agressor with, say, its tail, driving its quills into whatever it can as a deterrent.
@sonshadsil123 best way to know that, instead of asking owners on youtube, would be to look up the pet ownership laws of your local town/city/municipality/ect of your district/state/country/ect, since theres some cities that make hedgehog ownership illegal, yet theres a city not more than a few miles away allow ownership. Bottom line is, research your local laws, rather than asking random people what THEIR laws are.
