  • j'adore this!!! thanx 4 posting!!!

  • pure class.. one of may all tme faves

  • Miss Susaye is so cute

  • the music speaks for itself...the critics and the radio doctors remain mum. The trade-off between Susaye and Courtney toward the end of this is spellbinding.

  • Richer and fuller than Minnie, more pure and clear than Deniece....You can understand every word that she sings, with excellent phrasing, and so musical!.. Just a superior and beautiful voice....Amazing performance.

  • philip bailey >

  • what a voice!what a song!!

  • Yes mikni101 on the B side of The Real Thing's 'Can You Feel The Force'.

    I love this version...

  • mary j blige sing this sony way better

  • @lilwhitney100 Susaye can sing circles around Mary J.

  • @MotownMaster I totally agree. It may perhaps be this perception that American R&B singers are more talented in general, than those in the UK. I think this rendition is the best one, its got that jazzy, soulful swing to it, where as Mary J's version is more urban-modern soul.

  • @lilwhitney100 Mary Blige better than Susaye? You must be tone deaf.

  • Long as she stays out of the stratosphere, she sounds pretty good. I never thought I would say that....

  • the best of the best version!!I love her voice!!!!

  • 5*****s!

  • killing track . . heavy album too. journey to the Urge Within. chek it people

  • oh my god, what a voice I started crying

  • Wow! Her voice is incredible...she draws you in~

  • this is the best cover ver.simply haunting

  • the great SUPREME susaye....thank you for posting!

  • Is this the same lady what was with the Post Diana Ross Supremes?

  • @BlogShag Yes. :-)

  • Impressive. You should go to talentwatch net. More music fans need to check you out!

  • Nice.

  • Good

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!! ;)

  • absolute class used to cruise around listening to this in the 80's courtney's first 2 albums were great got them on vinyl as well

  • Cor! Blimey! I remember seeing this the night it was broadcast..was it the Terry Wogan show or something like that.. I was blasted away, pure class.

  • Mary J. Blige's version KILLS this!

  • was mary j. on key on her version? that gal is never on key! lmao!

  • Man you wanna get yer ears tested..check out the brain while you're at it..you might get a cheap deal.

  • cudowne:)

  • She sounds eerily like Minnie Riperton here. Haunting.

  • Susaye could have let loose a little more. Why is she holding back? Arrangements too tight? Mary and Diana are the only Supremes with solid solo singing careers.

  • I Don't care for this version of this song.

  • I believe her version was done before Phillip's, and the recored version is different from theis live version, also this is Courtney Pines' arrangement and not Susaye.

  • Played this in Cafe Del Mar when the sun was setting in July 2004 - still watch the video and it still send tingles down my spine.

  • Has to be one of my all time favourite tracks! Pure quality!

  • Extreamely wonderful voice & singing technique she has!

    CD Island records ltd 1988

    "Courtney Pine / Traditions Beckoning"

  • Went to school with Courtney, and still rate this as his greatest ever recorded music moment. Criminally underrated 70s Supreme Susaye Greene is an inspired choice as vocalist, who truly levitates here. Pure class!

  • Always appreciated her music with Stevie. Now that i see her solo, I'm even more impressed! Such stage presence and chops. Courtney's pretty cool, too. Thanks.

  • This is the best version I hear so far and yeah that whistle note is a killer, only Shanice can match that tone.

  • That's so great! A saw this video a lot of times now. Would be so nice if I had an audio track of this with better quality ! ! !

  • ojojojoj, sample od Ostrego ;d

  • wow

    that's damn cool!!!

  • This is a beautiful and rare version of this song. Please Please Please Please can you consider uploading a version with better audio quality? Please!

  • Beautiful, this is the same whistle note Shanice hit in her live version of 'Yesterday'.

  • What is a whistle note?

  • That sort of screamy note. She hits it on the word "sky" at 3.27, nice bit of word painting don't ya think! :D xxx

  • The whistle note speaks to that very high sopranic sound produced by a singer that measures from E6 and above. The note mostly sound bird/flute-like and though some refer to it as a scream it's proper term is whistle, flageolet or superhead; depending on the technique used but these notes as point out are measurable on a musical instrument, piano, guitar, flute. Known whistlers are Minnie Riperton, Shanice, Mariah Carey, Chante Moore etc. There are many videos on whistle notes here on youtube.

  • Was this before or after she left The Supremes

  • way after

  • 7 years after she left the Supremes

  • Simply fantastic, Sasaye and Courtney.

  • wow i love this, Susaye is such a sweetheart, and an amazing talent

  • wow she can hit whistle register notes!

  • That's a pretty nice version of the song!

The writer of the song was Chris Amoo,

leader of the band "The Real Thing", was'nt it?

And the original version contains an uptempo part - "stanhope street"...I love it !!

  • Philip Bailey released his version in 1984 and

    "The Real Thing" in 1977.

  • Yep, and Chris Amoo is now a very well established Crufts winning Afgan Hound breeder!!!

  • OMG! I'm in love!

  • who sang the original of this??

  • it was originally recorded by uk soul/pop group "the real thing" late 70s

  • sorry think i`m wrong lol.phillip bailey sung it ouch !!! lol.

  • it was 'the real thing' who wrote and originally recorded the song. great version here from one of CP's early albums

  • i knew this from this! damn good

  • What an elegent and pretty woman with such a great voice. First heard this song on Clockers the movie. Thank you for posting this wonderful song. Peace.

  • Susaye I believe co-wrote along with Stevie Wonder "I Can't Help It" recorded by Michael Jackson from the "Off the Wall" album.

  • yup, that's true! "I Can't Help It" is such a wonderful song!

  • woww, amazing

  • does anyone have mary j bliges version of this???

  • its all over limewire

  • one terrific singer!

  • Ivyfield, THANK YOU for this rare treat! I'd heard a lot of good buzz about this when it first came out, and tonight is the first time I've actually heard it. I loved Susaye, even more when some Supremes fans would say that she didn't fit in. This song really spotlights her always exciting voice. And Jazz is the style I think fits each former member of the group. Hooray to Susaye for following through!!

  • say it !!

  • Susaye Greene reminds me of no one except Susaye:) She's a great singer, songwriter and from what I'm told a great person....What a great version(I believe the best version) of this song...Thanks for sharing Steve. Thanks Susaye and Courtney

  • Top stuff.. I love this version too..

ps I actually remember watching this at the time..

So big up the Wogan massive!!!

  • I'm digging ol' girl. She does have that Anita Baker thing going on in her appearance as well as vocally. I imagine that Anita would sound something like this if she was a soprano. Anyway, I'm very impressed by her:)

  • WHERE IS MARY & SCHERRIE??

  • Probably out shopping...

  • @MISTERJETT this was 1986, so Mary was on her book tour, and Scherrie, along with Cindy and Jean were in the first line up of FLO's

  • Wonderful to see a favorite singer performing a favorite song. Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow! This is AMAZING!!! I love this woman's voice. I read up on her and boy, does she have some incredible collaborations - Ray, Stevie, Supremes, Courtney Pine. A very talented lady. Keep on doing what you're doing!

  • She also co-wrote Deneice Williams' hit Free (with Deneice) and Michael Jackson's I Can't Helpt It

  • Phenomenal performance!!! Thanks for posting this!!

  • Susaye Greene is phenomenal! Your voice is wonderful. I'm waiting anxious for next her cd. Thanks for this clip.

  • She reminds me of Anita Baker (visually, not vocally) with her hair up like that. Thanks for sharing this clip.
