Ironically, Dave would have a lot higher ratings if he'd stop coming down so hard against conservative America & republicans. He's split his own audience in half, cause he doesn't realize at least half of the US is still conservative! I didn't find the joke funny but when I heard it I thought Sarah's eldest daughter. People overreact instead of jumping on the case of people's mistakes or not being clear enough. When you put your kids on a nationwide stage at let's say the RNC you are per definition using your children for your own personal purposes, right?
When you decide to run for VP and you know:
1) Your kid did just deliver a child out of wedlock and
2) You are publicly promoting abstinence

DL's ONLY mistakes were being vague and writing a bad joke. I certainly understand Palin taking offense, because the target of the joke was her daughter. It was appropriate to make a statement voicing concern. Once they started accusing him of more than poor taste, they lost the moral high ground. DL did the honorable thing and apologized for causing the misunderstanding. Notice that no one was pissed on ARod's behalf...the Palin interpretation of that joke made him a sexual predator.
