  • This is my opinion and I dont want any arguments. But, I have grown up with this version and I do so much enjoy this cast. A lot. And I think Glenn Carter was the more ideal person to look like Jesus. He has the eyes, the hair everything you'd expect Jesus to look like. I love this DVD. I don't know where it is now, but still. This is my favorite and I love it. Glenn, to me, is Jesus.

  • CON TODO EL RESPETO AL LABOR QUE TUVIERON PARA LOGRAR ESTA VERSIÓN, OPINO QUE PREFIERO LA PELICULA JESUS CRISHT SUPER STAR VERSION 1973. SIMPLEMENTE ES GENIAL, RECONOSCO QUE ES DIFICIL SUPERAR UNA CREACIÓN MAESTRA COMO LA VERSIÓN DEL 1973. BS DESDE URUGUAY

  • Прикольно))

    Классный голос))

  • In my opinion the "acting" in this version is better. But on the other hand Carl Andersons voice where more desperate and depressed so it fitted more with his character.

  • @sebarhap I really have to disagree with you on this one here sebarhap. First, this play is an exact reproduction of the 1999 West End revival. It even has the same director. Secondly, this version has real stage actors in it. The "exaggerated" performances are part of theatrical technique. Actually I find thier acting quite good.

  • I don't like this version :/ I feel everything very exaggerated..Jesus is a bit cheesy here..not like the deep looking.. serious, troubled one we see on the '73 version. Same as Judas.. I don't like Jerome's voice.. he sings well..but not good enough to impersonate the Judas we were used to watch.. Carl Anderson was really very powerful and frustrated, and his rocker voice was awesome for it. As this was a remake.. maybe they just wanted to win a bit more of money and make it a bit more pop.

  • Frankly, I think it might have been a good idea for Glenn Carter to spend a little more time in the gym before filming this show...those don't really look like the arms or the chest of a carpenter to me!

  • I love Judas's voice in this movie.. :D

  • @MultiBelle22 Jerome is French, born in France. He had help to speak without the accent.

  • OMG ma è orribile!!!! esattamente come la sua pronuncia inglese!!!! brrrrr

  • Jerome is a talented performer but I can't help but thing about Leonard Rossiter's "Rigsby" when listening to him. Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson set the benchmark that all others fail to reach. Two of the most, if not the most impassioned musical film performances of all time. Perfection!

  • Is he French, Jerome Pradon? He was born in France, wasn't he; or was he brought up in Britain or America? He sounds English when he sings x

  • The reason people who prefer Carl Anderson watch this version is for comparison. Myself, I prefer Carl Anderson's voice to Jerome Pradon and think his voice suits the song better. However, in terms of the films overall, I prefer this version. The 1973 film, I feel, has a handicap due to the acting abilities of many major roles, for example: Ted Neeley, in my opinion, is an awful film actor. Nevertheless, I don't think either film does 'Jesus Christ Superstar' justice and it can be done better.

  • I'd never heard of Jerome Pradon until I saw this but he does have an amazing voice! Didn't think much of the guy who played Jesus though x

  • this guy is awsome !

  • thats so awesome!!! the best version

  • The Gospel According to Judas....

  • i'll admit, this set is amazing. so clever.

  • I think both versions are cool

  • I must of pressed the replay button a thousand times! I love this song and it is the best version of it. Jerome Pradon is AWESOME!

  • Wait, there are people other than Jerome Pradon and his immediate family that prefer this to Carl Anderson?

  • this is terrible...

  • Drew Sarich anyone? BEST JUDAS EVER

  • Ok I have no idea why you guys are complaining! this is an AMAZING song and Jesus Christ Superstar is AWESOME so if you don't like it don't watch it!!

  • This guy needs to keep with the tempo of the song...

  • i love jesus christ superstar in ALL forms.

  • :omg:

  • I will admit that, while I don't like this Judas, I love the imagery of him trying to step out of Jesus' shadow.

  • I really liked Judas in this version, but I still think he messed up in the song Jesus Christ Superstar..

  • sublime!!!!

  • Hands up if you want JCS back in the West End of London

  • I do like both versions :) both are good indeed

  • For those that know...the Jesus here looks like chuck schuldiner to me....Either you get it or you can use google. Just my opinion.

  • I think Glenn Carter did an amazing twist on Judas. I prefer Murray Head's version, but I really like how Glenn acted. I love the "Come on Judas" XD

  • I prefer Carl Anderson's voice and the character and staging in that version, but still this guys acting is a little stronger.

  • Judas is like a jester...

I don't really like his singing but i'd be lieing if I said he wasn't good at it, just not in this role.

    Carl Anderson FTW

I really like this idea of him singing it right to Jesus with him in the room, kinda makes it seem more realistic then wandering the desert singing to someone who is nowhere close to you...

  • Being Jesus must be easy but being Judas must be require some real talent :D

  • I don't like his singing, but damn is Jerome is a good actor...

  • Jerome knew he didn't have a great voice, but he had the acting talent, if you look behind the voice.

  • 4:34 "Please!! remember that i want us to live"

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber said that this play was about exploring the humanity of Jesus and Judas, not the divine. I think that is why he prefered this version. The 73 version is good but in my opinion dwells on the divinity of Jesus. This version depicts Jesus and Judas both as very flawed men. I prefer this version because of that, but it's a personal thing.

In my opinion, Jerome Pradon is an amazing Judas, and my clear favourite.

  • @chrisistrangerthanu Your perspective is interesting. I like both versions, but seeing the '73 version for the first time is what got me interested in what is sometimes called "fleshly Jesus". I thought it was a fascinating exploration of Jesus as a person, just a guy. It's funny that you had the opposite experience!

  • @chrisistrangerthanu I completely agree with everything you said! I saw them both as more human here...even more conflicted with their relationship and who they were to each other and what they should be to the world.

  • This is the best setting that has ever existed

  • I actually love Jerome's voice. I always thought of the constant cracking/screeching as a character choice. He made it work in my mind. Carl Anderson makes us feel for him, Jerome just plays him as a straightforward backstabbing coward. Not saying either Judas is better or worse, but this guy was the one who really did it for me.

  • Stop being originalists and accept that this man is pretty damn incredible.

If this had come first, you'd be bumming this version.

  • can't - tear- eyes - away -from -this- trainwreck!!!

  • I like Jerome as Judas so much, because he builds a whole character around Judas. You can see what's going on in his head. In the 70's version, you can't. Yeah, perhaps Jerome sings not as good as the other ones, but his acting is way better!

  • brilliant performance as Judas - the tension and torture

  • Jerome's the best Judas I've ever seen!

  • this guy is good but Carl Anderson does have the better voice

  • Tarantino ?

  • Rocco Siffredi is Jesus?

  • 4:19 peters deep voice "oh come on judas!"

  • I am now no longer able to read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John without picturing Judas in a leather jacket. Wow.

  • Its okay but nothing can possibly compare to Carl Anderson's 1973 version.

  • Why'd they change the lyrics?

  • yeah that's it buddy, look right at the camera....-_-

  • @Rupert3434 He's playing the 'narrator' at this point, so he's allowed to break the fourth wall...

  • OMG, ur son is so kitchy!!! (arty) :)))

  • I love his vocals.

  • Jerome Pradon is the only reason to watch this version.

  • @Monkofmagnesia That's not a very good reason :S He's not exactly "handsome"

  • @Rupert3434 may be his voice. really. sometimes singing is all about voices.

  • This will be back on broadway in march 2012. a new version.

  • @hairyman Its the version from my city, Stratford, I saw it and it was AMAZING!!!

  • I dunno what it is, but something about this performance reminds me of sing star superstar.

  • He looks more like Neil Patrick Harris

  • @ZombieDragQueen

Or sting... or flea from the RHCP :/

  • So this is a joke right?

  • Jack Nicholson vs Robert downey jr

  • Jesuschrist Superstar 1973 = Epic musical about badass Judas and silly Jesus.

Jesuschrist Superstar 2000 = Gay relation about Jesus and Judas

  • @mertarius SOOOO much truth in your statement

  • Gahh if you prefer Carl Anderson go watch his version -.-

  • @lilyandoscar7824

it's not about what we prefer, it's about having a listening ear...if anyone thinks this guy sings better than he shouldn't do anything relatid to music...

  • Jerome Pradon is extremely better as Aragorn (in The Lord Of The Rings) than as Judas.

  • @HobbitAnnyBaggins Whoa, as in...Marius-Jérôme Pradon?! How did he get from Les Mis to...this?

  • 2:40 - WOW! haha.. I could loop that all day :)

  • Carl Anderson is much much better

  • i dislike the squeaks inbetween consonants that judas does. like...he just needs to sing consistently rather than the squeaking :/. poor jesus, he had to listen to all of this

  • everyone acts like the 1973 jesus has no emotion and isnt realistic because he isnt crying and acting like a scared nancy boy. i see jesus standing his ground no matter what is thrown at him and doesn't let himself get dramatic. he understands in his mind what must be done and he gets it done like a real man. this jesus acts like a pouting, emotional house wife i mean come on.. look at jesus at 2:22

  • @Pizzahedd Tell me about it.

  • This Judas seems to think that he is better than Jesus and he makes fun of him. In the 1973 movie Judas seems to act confused about why jesus is donig the things he does. I prefer the 1973 movie and singing but that is just my opinion.

  • I used this song for an audition today and I think it went rather well. But its much harder when you're not doing it in your room xD

  • the only thing i think is pretty cool in this vid is at 4:13 to 4:28. it is pretty awesome how he confronts them all, and his expression makes me laugh :)

  • i wish i could sing like this

  • noisy*

  • What does Judas say at 3:26 instead of "I am frightened by the crowd

For we are getting much too loud" (from 1973 version)? Is this "and I conquer as object To another noisty sect"?

  • @golkiper1989 our conquerors

  • @golkiper1989 "And our conquerors object.."

  • I don't like this version. Can't help it.

  • I prefer Carl Anderson's recitation of this classic, but the way this one is acted is superior in my view, especially how Judas and Christ interact while the song is being sung, it really adds too the emotion of the piece.

  • @Hakudohshi I agree I do prefer Carl Anderso n.... but its good seeing othe rpeople sing this song... this guy seems to angry during this tho... have you heard Tod Strikes version? that is amazing (:but this is a good singer with different sound of voice (: @lilyandoscar7824 calm down... someone is just expressing their own opionon (: which everyone has a right too (:

  • Excuse me while I go write some Jesus/Judas slash fiction.

  • Carl Anderson in my opinion has a better voice, more control and not as nasal as Pradon, but Pradon is a slightly better actor. Both have different interpretations but in the end my favorite will always be Anderson.

  • Jeromes and Carls singing are about equal, in their unique ways, but as an actor Jerome is superior, my opinion.

  • jesus wears cargo pants and wife beaters!

  • he uses so much vibrato, its getting annoying...

  • I love this !

  • I like both versions for different reasons, but I think I'll have to say that I like Carl Anderson better as Judas.

  • i so love the english accent! <3 but the older version really is better ;-;

  • Wows hes gooood

  • Horrible...This is a bad copy of the first one which was truly amazing.

  • too much vibrato! this ain't an opera!

besides... this is definitely not the original text!

  • @Jopromi1 this IS an opera. it´s a rock opera^^;

  • too much vibrato!

  • I´m sorry, but this is like Karaoke midi music with not very good singer!

    sorry

  • anyone else think that the only things wrong with this version are Jesus/Judas...and the best parts of the original are...Jesus/Judas.

  • NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL ONE, ITS LIKE A BEATLES SONG AGAINST A COVER MADE BY LADY GAGA

  • I prefer Pradon as an actor but he can't even touch Anderson as a singer

  • "But eeuueAAAAAaaaaAAAAaaAaVERY word you say todaaaaaayy"

    Good....god.....0___o

  • @broadwaymelody33 I laugh every time I read your comment. Then I go and play that part again. It makes me want to buy this just for the lulz.

  • @broadwaymelody33 "And they'll crush us if we go too far, If we Gooo toowuoo FAAAAAewaaeaiaaaaahhaaa"

  • I like Jeromes overall voice and performance better than Carls

  • Glenn Carter = FIT, cute and AMZING

  • @aliciah10 also played a very good Jack the ripper on Psychoville season 1 look it up its awesome

  • I feel like the 2000 edition misses the point of Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • carl anderson owns this role

  • I do alot of musical theatre and was once asked if I cud play a male role - which role would it be. I didn't even have to think. Judas was and still is my answer.

  • i like carl anderson he actual seems concerned about jesus this guy just freaks me out

  • me gusta mucho las expresiones de este judas.. pero el canto lamentablemente no le acompaña.. carl is the best ¡

  • Both Garter amd Pradon are awesome.

    Pradon - especially great.

  • If you could mix Jerome's Acting & Carl Anderson's Vocals, you'd have the PERFECT Judas!

  • @colliedoran exactly !!

  • Jerome Pradon did a wonderful job. Judas is up there with Javert from Les Miss as one of the most complex and challenging roles for a musical theatre ACTOR.

You have a man who can see everything around him spiralling out of control and all thanks to a man he had respected and admired above all others.

The resentment and despair he felt for Jesus is at odds with the love he feels for him.

Jerome more than any other actor I have seen in the role, conveys that conflict. Brilliant performance.

  • I think Pradon is a great actor. Singing wise....I don't think his voice is right for this role. Although I've never heard anything else he's done.

  • i watched quite a few version about this song. and normally i say the original is almost always better, but with playing Judas i have to say, Carl Anderson, Jerome Pradon, Drew Sarich they are all just unbelivably good in this role. i have my teory why, but that's doesn't matter

  • GLENN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX GOSH I LOVE HIM SO MUCH,, HES ADORABLE

  • @savantleo If you are referring to Carl Anderson, the original Judas from the 1973 film, then your claim is impossible because he has been dead for about 7 years...

  • This guys voice is just.. wow. My god. :D

  • Perfection at its best!

  • non mi piace sugli acuti lo trovo poco incisivo per il resto mi piace

  • I perfer Drew Sarich.

  • I was very lucky to experience Neely and Anderson perform J.C.S. live in Toronto a few years ago. I thought the movie was great. The live show virtually lifted me out of my seat. Incredible !!!!!!

  • has anyone noticed that his shirt and jacket colours switch in the last scene from the first scene

  • I love this version... only because this is the first one that I've ever seen. The one from 1975 is great though. They're totally different in my point of view!

  • the singing is much better in the original. i thought carl was just perfect

  • I actually saw this in San Francisco in 1975 (yes, it warped me for life) and I actually prefer this rendition. No Hippy-Flower-Power BS.... And I like how they modernized it so I didn't again have to put up with the Hippy Flower Power BS that everyone now thinks is so cool and romantic... Is it Perfect---No. Is it really good--yes.

At least the director had the balls to show something different rather than repeating others works....

  • Having listened to some of the other songs in this movie and not overly liking Pradon's voice, i think it actually really works with this song. In a very different way to Carl Anderson, but at a similar quality ... barring one or two notes that just feel awkward

  • I far prefer the 1973 version. The singing is superior, not only for Judas but for Jesus as well. It's had to top a young Ted Neeley.

Jerome is far too nasally for me, and while his acting is nice, his voice just doesn't carry the same amount of emotion as Carl's.

  • I love how all these people are arguing over which is better, 1973 or 2000, Pradon or Anderson, forgetting all about Ben Vereen outstanding performance back in 71.

  • @xMrBloox I think they're comparing the movies not the play performance.

  • First second i saw judas i was thinking "wtf Jack Nicholson!"

    then i :(

  • i feel like this is a bit ... slashy.... 1973 forever

  • This is a bubble gum version of the original.

  • CARL ANDERSON!!!!

  • I just watched the 1973 version for Easter Sunday. It made me realise just how much I hate this version.

  • if they do a remake of this.. adam lambert BETTER be judas. he could tear that up :)

  • great actor but the most horrible Judas of the history...

  • I like how the apostles all look like they belong in a coffee house.

  • 1973

  • I prefer Carl Anderson

  • Please check out my vocal cover of this song, on my youtube-channel ! :)

  • @Furxation Jew.

  • this guy is nothing in comparison to carl anderson.

  • Chi l'ha costretto?!

  • This judas is more cynical and ironic than the one played by Carl Anderson, but the other one has more spirit in my opinion.

  • @Smiddimizer I honestly feel as though Anderson put more passion into his singing as Judas. Although Pardon did a fantastic job, i just see Anderson's voice inflection to be more passionate. But that's just my thought personally. Yet, i can still agree with you, on how his voice is great.

  • the costume is rather silly

  • I like the way judas is portrayed in the old version better because in that version he's more portrayed as a tourtured guy with a fate he can't control who was actually doing gods work without knowing it, where as in this one he's depicted as a heartless cruel

    Monster

  • @JRYStudios1 but he really isnt depicted that way at all in this one

  • @JRYStudios1 He is not portrayed as a monster far from it

Judas is a man who once respected Jesus above all others. But now finds himself questioning everything he once held dear, and he feels Jesus is to blame for it, for allowing things to get out of hand, for allowing his ego to get out of control and he is angry and feels resentment. But that doesn't mean to say he doesn't still love him deeply. That is the conflict within Judas. That is what Jerome is portraying and brilliantly so.

  • i dont know if i like this one yet

  • I think Pradon makes Judas such a sexy character!! Bad boy much? :p

  • meh ..... i like the old one more

  • growing on me.... ;)

  • Nice tank Jesus

  • Comment removed

  • I am not a big fan of remakes, and I don't like how they redid it with an "urban" twist. They could at least find better singers. The 70's movie is classic and could never be matched.

  • @ersafeguard It's meant to be s stage production. They're not going to act it out in a desert are they? As for the singing, it is far superior in this version.

  • @EvoConor243 With all due respect, superior singing, you must be joking.
