How to tighten radiator valves

how do I tell the difference between lockshield valve and control valve? On my radiator, both ends look the same, and there is no cap on them.

what if its leaking from the bit where you turn it on, ie the where that cap went on. Ive tightened it up, put some of that white tape stuff behind the nut etc but it still leaks.

It might be leaking from the stem of the valve!

When you tighten the nut should it not be in an anticlockwise direction if looking at it from the top as in the video ?

Well, it is upside down so yes it will be the opposite direction. However it is a right hand thread and you always tighten a right handed thread in a clockwise direction ;-)

What would you do if the water was still leaking down the pipe once you tightened the nut up.
