Ty Tabor is the man!!!! One of the most overlooked, yet incredibly influential guitarists of our era. He is my #1 influence. King's X made me love playing guitar. I would figure these songs out by ear, then once they released the tab books, I was VERY close. It helped my ear training a ton. But his tone, vibrato, everything is amazing. That sig series guitar he's playing is amazing too, but EXPENSIVE.
Ty's one of my favourite guitarists and he gives props to another favourite of my mine .. Alex Lifeson .. 2 sonic geniuses in the 2 of the greatest 3 piece bands of all time !!!
Funny how he joke's around about how nuts they were with too many tunings and having to carry 7-8 guitars around. Saw an interview with U2's The Edge...18 guitars...for 1 set...(if I remember correctly).
@AlanLeviYYZ I like both players but the notion that somehow Malmsteen is jealous of Ty playing some drop tuned slow riffage is ridiculous. YJM is a monster player, as is Tabor but their styles could not be any further apart. They each do their own thing and I would hazard a guess my opinion of Yngwie is probably surpassed by Ty's opinion of him.
Ty is an awesome guitarist and seems to be a great person as well. Keep it rockin', Ty! Love his drone notes.....was always attracted to his tone from black flag on through the whole Dogman album and Ear Candy. Just love that tone.
i met these guys back in 94 at their "dogman" CD release party at the old cactus records in houston. super nice guys. people fromhouston run into these guys all the time. ran into doug pinnick at a local gig, and he was cool as always. ty is one of the most under rated guitarist out there and he is such a great human being too!!
@wiredog73 nice i met them on the same tour on long island where i live....saw them 2 nights in a row...met them outside the first show at hofstra university and they signed my dogman cd boklet and i got ty's pick....awesome day
@dil173 Because the guitar is tuned to drop C tuning it implies the 5th of the root scale, but changes its relationship to later chords, thereby creating the tension he talks about. He's an awesome guitarist who I've listened to since I was 21 years old!!! :P
King's X...the most underrated band of the last 25 years, not to mention one of the most heavily copied. They were doing groovy, drop-D material long before it was hip.
Ty Tabor has done some stuff that just BLOWS a guitarist's mind :D

Kids, this is what it means to "play with economy" - he barely goes above the fifth fret and creates an entire song. Wicked.

CTuxford in reply to dil173 (Show the comment) 11 months ago
@CTuxford The G is tuned down to F... so it implies the 4th of the scale, not the 5th.

@ibanezbloke A fourth. Even better! Thanks for the correction. :)
