  • I have always found the beatles to be quite lackluster and leave more than a lot to be desired in both their singing and the content of their songs. Therefore when people like Stevie Wonder and Wilson Pickett come about and blow them out of the water I am hardly surprised. People probably only think the beatles are so wonderful due to the hive mentality spawned by the music industry that tells everyone the beatles are masters and therefore they all comply despite clear evidence to the contrary.

  • thumbs up for liking this song and not paying any attention to the stupid stuff that going on in the comments :)

  • Yo beiber, this is how you cover The Beatles.

  • @sn00kum5 this isn't copying; this is taking the same lyrics as another song and interpreting them

  • 468.058 views. how is it possible?? Ive seen this video at least 1.000.000 times...

  • we can not work it out. to many other females out there. not worth it.

  • It literally took me my whole 27 years on this earth to hear Stevie's version of this song. Really wish I discovered this sooner.

  • @crispie764 it stupidly took me 33 years, this track is now one of the best ive ever heard!

  • absolutely stunning!

  • Now this is flat out funky...

  • taking me bac to when life for me was care free....THANKS alot i really needed to feel like that im up to my neck in bills..(tears)

  • pointless to compare--love em both!!

  • I loved the Beatles version, but...

    This one's even better.

  • This version is way better than the Beatles. Soulful to the max!

  • There should be another category for Stevie. The word "cover" doesn't do this justice.

  • Funky cool Beatles,I got it! Thanks!

  • normally I hate Beatles cover 'cause they suck most of the time but this one and the one that was cover Fiona Apple did are dimly A-mazing! :) thank you for sharing ^-^!

  • STEVIE SUNG.AND PLAYED THIS SONG FAR FAR BETTER THEN THE Beatles

he made the beatles look bad with there own song..STEBIE SIMPLY SCHOOL THEM..LOL..ON HOW TO DO THERE OWN MUSIC..GO STEVIE MY BROTHER

  • @dimpsey3 Listen to the lyrics. "Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting, my friends".

Stevie would think you're an ass. Why? Because you are.

  • this has always been THE version. By 1970 the Beatles could have provided a pretty funky version themselves, including Billy Preston playing in the band

  • I gotta give credit to the Beatles, but Stevie gave it more umph....

  • This is one of the best covers of a Beatles song I have ever heard and I am 52!

  • It's a pretty decent cover...then he takes it to a whole new level. Hold onto your hats at the end...wow.

  • Dennis Coffey on guitar!!!! This has that Pre-Scorpion sound to it!!! Maybe Dennis was inspired later!

  • So far I think this could work for "Chicken Run."

  • S Wonder looks alot less threatening w/ short hair. Great look and great song.

  • Chaka's version was based on this version.

  • Love this song

  • Best Beatles cover ever.

  • Stevie Wonder left out the the 3/4 transition at the end of the bridge lines. That (to me) is one of the interesting parts of the Lennon/McCartney composition.

  • @bloozintro yeah but comes in 1/16th early...so that's cool

  • Kickinq and Screaminq Movie Brouqht me Here ! I Lovee it ♥

  • @iiBookiee I've seen that movie. I don't remember that part. I remember "Jack I love you" "What does that have to do with anything?!" though

  • 30 people can't work it out

  • The greatest cover ever! Nothing else needs to be said!

  • I'm a Beatles fan and i love this. Anyone else??? :))

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG

    = ]

  • @TheQuipetro you actually are an idiot, next time you are gonna write a comment as ridiculous as that close your eyes and try and type, then try and play a keyboard the man is a marvel and an inspiration to many, and as for " simpleton lyrics" the song village ghetto land paints a vivid mental image of just what he is trying to convey and thats with his words and that from someone who has never even seen it himself. youve got a little more growing up to do mate

  • 30 people are musically retarded...

  • I happen to love both versions, Stevie is a genius musically no contest.

  • Pure genius. Stevie is a god. C'mon people, hit thumbs up and like this shiz.

  • better than original

  • @mazablaskamedia

nahhhhhhh, both are good, but cant beat the Beatles

  • @mazablaskamedia please add 'in my opinion'

  • I heard this for the first time over the P.A. when waiting for Paul to come out before the Yankee Stadium. I was immediately floored because it was such a great re-imagining of the song and once the harmonica solo started I finally realized it was Stevie Wonder.

  • This was the first version I heard. I was quite young so I didn't know what a remake was. Both songs are great

  • This is how you remake a track, Simon Cowell.

  • If you are to copy someone else's song.

THIS is how you do it.

  • how can any one dislikes stevie wonders music. stevies best work was in the 60's and 70's . the Lord has bless this man with such awesome talent.

  • The first "hey" threw me off. I thought it was someone talking to me irl xD this is a great cover though :D

  • This version put the Beatles to SHAME.....Stevie Wonder OWNED this tune in 1970

  • @nealadams70 Noone owned The Beatles, noone even came close to them. Look up record sells to prove it. The Beatles sold over 1 billion records ,STevie sold 100 million. Thats a HUGE difference.

  • @valkour22 I'm not going to argue record sales with you. Stevie Wonder took a Beatles tune and re-imagined it, made it soulful and driving. The Beatles motown 'covers' are not among their best recordings. Stevie created his own incredible recordings far longer the Beatles as a group, and continues to do so today

  • @nealadams70 not longer than Paul McCartney.

  • @nealadams70 : You exaggerate. Stevie Wonder did nothing of interesting since 35 years. I appreciate him but the problem is that it always sounds the same way . ( 'soulful' like you wrote). When I discovered him, it was cool, but now and perhaps because i grew up, it's difficult for me to listen, especially for his simpleton lyrics. (If tomorrow there is a enormous meteorite that falls to Earth, i'm sure that Stevie will continue to laugh all alone).

  • @TheQuipetro you my friend, are an idiot...I would call you a simpleton, complex concepts seem to go over your pointed head....

  • @TheQuipetro every body taste change with time, doesn't mean the quality of the music changes

my little brother always says it best when musicians die young, then no one can complain about how their music changed or didn't change as they grow old.

my advice to you, stop being so full of your self

  • A genius covering a couple geniuses, there was only ever one outcome

  • The very best of Stevie., He did this song better than the Beattles. Way better. I hated this song when they did it. But now I LOVE IT. It is my favorite song ever,

  • Did You Hear About the Morgans brought me here :)

  • 28 people could not work it out.

  • Stevie Wonder pulls this cover off masterfully!

  • almost as good as orginal

  • We Can Work It Out.

  • Sooo fucking gooooooood.

  • Wow.

Downloaded both, because they are so different but they're both so great.

  • Voice of god himself

  • God bless Stevie

  • nice! nice to see some funk added to all of that beatles heart

  • It's awesome but nothing can beat the original :)

  • This is my all time most played song on my ipod. great, great song.

  • I love the original as well, but I find myself going to Stevie's version more often.

  • Probably one of the only cover songs that I enjoy listening to.

  • chaka khan did a version of this song as well wecan work it out rufus ft chaka khan

  • Hello Nasty!

  • Stevie Wonder is the most sampled and covered artist in human history. Considering the age when he started, the fact that for the greater part of his 50 year career he writes, plays the instruments, and sings in just about all his recordings, and that he can play just about any instrument by ear, and he only has 24 hours in his day, just like the rest of us, Stevie is undoubtedly the most accomplished musician ever......PERIOD And he has released an album every decade since the 1960's so stop.

  • @SupaTyTV He's the most underrated superstar of all time. You can't say enough good things about him. The world is a better place when he sings.

  • Write a damn good song and some damn good artist like Stevie can't help but do a damn good cover!

  • Comment removed

  • How good is this! It's all be said before; Stevie you are a WONDER!

  • listen to Humble Pie version. it's pretty amazing

  • there are 4 beatles and one stevie wonder.that tells you that the beatles need to be together instead of 1 beatle v.s stevie wonder for some people to think they are better.

  • Somehow, I haven't heard this cover until now even though this is one of my fav songs ever.... But hearing it now made my heart jump, literally. Absolutely amazing!!!

  • To me this is the better version because I can't stop listening to it!!

  • Nope, The Beatles version is definitely better. Pauls voice is much more consistent than Stevie's on the higher notes. This is still a very good cover, but has nothing on The Beatles'. Loving the guitar riffs at the intro and at 1:58.

  • @hermsboy1 That's no guitar riffs... It's either an electric piano or a clavinet with distortion:)

  • To the 28 dislikers...you have NO taste in music, i'm suprised you were given ears at birth because you certainly don't know how to use them.

    good day to you!

p.s. this IS better than The Beatles version, i ain't afraid to say it :)

  • I love both Beatles and Stevie's version. Oh and for the record. Beatles have to be the most influencial group ever because of so many covers that were done of their songs

  • @rjam1974 well to clear it up they did a lot of covers of other peoples song. i think the lyrical content is what makes them influential thouhg

  • Seriously. What kind of person dislikes this?

  • I hate to say it but this is better than the original

  • No one can do Beatles cover, like Beatles did xD Beatles are the best band ever man !

  • Life is very short...heeeeeee yeaaaaaaaaaaahhh...

  • Amazing!

  • When did music become a competition?Stevie's cover was great aswell

  • I think this is the coolest Beatles cover ever, right next to Vanilla Fudge's cover of Ticket To Ride. I LOVE the vocal off tempo.

  • Music ain't a dick measuring contest, folks. Beatles and Stevie are amongst the greats of the great, that's all there is to it.

  • @subg88 Absolutely.

  • @subg88

your comment made me realize stevie has never seen his dick...poor thing

  • @subg88

    PREACH!!

  • @subg88

  • @subg88 If music was a dick measuring contest, the black cock would win

  • The Beatles: Great songwriters= great songs..... Stevie...After hearing this version I had to go and wash cause the PHUNK WAS TOO NASTY on this track.... Conclusion.... Monster version

  • This song stands alone and I love the Beatles but this is great.

  • God DAMN this is funky

  • 素晴らしすぎる!!!

    なんてピースフルなんだ!!!!

  • why did he even do this cover. it has nothing on the original

  • It's not about which version is better. Stevie obviously loved the song as done by The Beatles. It's called "music" and it's universal.

  • Best cover I've heard. Ever.

  • @ophirshay all along the watch tower is better

  • @ophirshay fact :)

  • @ophirshay ...you're probrably right, but check out Lakeside's "I wantna hold your hand".

  • what a great song.

  • @pbrick6301 BEATLES IS BETTAR

  • s'ok

  • big beatles fan but i realy like this :0)

  • He put some more soul into this song than the Beatles, awesome remake.

  • Stevie's vocals have so much personality and the way he phrases each lyric, each verse, different emphasis and inflection each time. It's such a vibrant, alive performance. He really sounds like he's communicating to someone, trying to persuade them. The original sounds monotonous and repetitive in comparison. And that harmonica break is incredible.

  • @jackiechampion word brother

  • is cool but in my opnion beatles is better.

  • Okay, but not as good as Beatles...

    Thumbs up to agree :-)

  • This is the best Beatles cover, bar none.

  • Stevie puts some real soul into it, which let's face it is what the Beatles were attempting to copy ...

  • LOL for sure stevies version better... Stevie makes it POP! no disrespect to anybody heck the artist is just the medium by which the piece crystallizes into this universe from the universe of ideas. The song exists whether the artists discovers it and manifests here or not and if its an imporant enough idea IT WILL COME INTO EXISTENCE one way or the other....

  • @jackiechampion I totally agree with you. People do seem quite scared and threatened when you say Stevie's version is better. People need to relax and accept that the original is not always the best. Similar to Luther Vandross, how he can cover a song and make it better. But, that is just one man's opinion

  • lol, it's funny cuz hes blind.

  • @ACSmallz kill yourself

  • @ACSmallz you suck.

  • @ACSmallz WHats so funny about that? Not funny to me.

  • Stevie put some soul in this song. The Beatles version has no soul (its not ment to) they made a pop song. There both good. I prefer Stevies version. He nearly cries in it at the end.

  • The people who say the Beatles version is much better sound a little scared and threatened that someone may have out-performed them. You can tell because they say "much" better. Even if you prefer the Beatles version, anyone who appreciates music and is honest knows that their version isn't "much" better, if it's better at all. BTW Stevie's version is, to me, better, livelier, more spontaneous, more musically diverse. The Beatles version sounds a bit repetitive and monotonous. Just my opinion.

  • @jackiechampion Both versions are incredible in their own way. I love both.

  • The Beatles' version of this song is better by far.

  • @Willamette53594 No this one is better.

  • @Superwolf1337 no u cant be better then the beatles ill have to disagree with you there but this version is very good

  • it is not good, the climax of the original is very diferrent, generally stevie is good but he fucked in someway a great song

  • The Beatles version is better...but Stevies version is TRULY amazing...hes not some pop singer who thinks he can sing covering the beatles. He is truly a great artist!! Great Job, Stevie

  • I absolutely LOVE this version of this song, even better than the original and, as a HUGE Beatle fan, that's really saying something. This is the only cover of their music that I would say that about. As one Taurus to another- you rocked this one Steveland.

  • my room just got infused with funk. love you stevie

  • ...just heard this for thi first time...excellent!

  • ...just heard this for thi first time...excellent!

  • I didn't really like the "life is very short..." part.

  • 24 people didnt realize The Beatles covered black artists songs since they left liverpool and actually loved stevie's rendition of We Can Work It Out

  • SOUL MEETS BEATLES>>>> AWESOME

  • I'm a big beatles fan and a big stevie wonder fan. I love both versions, great music is great music period.

  • It gave some more colour :) but I thought it would of been nice if 1:10 didn't descend but ascended to major key on "I will ask you once 'agaiin' " it would of suited the style he was playing it in more... thats my opinion otherwise... he's beyond human.

  • @Dolphidood exactly

  • @Dolphidood Blue notes. He 'blued' the entire song. The difference between pop and soul.

  • @TheSocratease Ohh yeah... I love big ideas like that and when people pull them off its as if they new it all along... he's such a genius lol ... I wish though, he had repeated the minor chorus, however that affect has made me want to come back for more. I can't get over Stevie tbh he is like the successor of Ray Charles!

  • @Dolphidood Interesting comment. Essence of genuis: knowing when to stop. That's why u can bear to hear it repeated again and again. I can't listen to Mariah Carey because she doesn't know when to stop.

BTW, have been listening to early stevie and hearing things i didn't hear 1st X around. hard to hear all that when you're dancing your butt off! hearing talking Book and it seems llike a new experience hearing it w/ some perspective. :-)

  • @TheSocratease ha! I know what you mean... its like Debussy said... Music is the silence between the notes. I think its both to be honest.

  • @Dolphidood Exactly.

  • what a nice song man makes the day better!

  • very cool! i liked this version its very difrent compared with the other but its great!

    kisses from brazil!

  • Can't compare these two versions. The Beatles did their own thing.Stevie gave it some energy and AMAZING vocals.Great song done by two artists.Another great version is done by Deep Purple.I know it may seem odd but they covered this to and did a great job BTW...Enes

  • I don't say that everyday: better than the original.

  • even though he covered it, Hell of a job he did on it!

  • beatles version of EVERYTHING is better but i love stevie tht was good

  • un soul meraviglioso ed elegantissimo

  • Beatles version is better.

  • From The Onion A.V. Club - "Wonder's performance is so powerful, in fact, that it changes the meaning of the song without changing a word. The Beatles' original is a desperate plea for reconciliation, delivered with passion but little hope. (The song was inspired by Paul McCartney's fractious, doomed relationship with then-girlfriend Jane Asher.) But Wonder's version is all about hope, and his joyous, sizzling funk makes "We Can Work It Out" a promise, not a plea."

  • @rwmusic Interesting comment. I think I agree with you.

  • He pretty much ruined it. He completely took away the meaningfulness and made it sound like a midnight dancefloor song.

Oh, and if your about, to hate, shut up, I love Stevie Wonder's music. This is just a case where he didn't shine.

Also, I'm SORRY if that means I would have to like both versions, but no, I'm different, and you have a problem with that, I don't care, really. I sound harsh yes, but I've given my honest opinion many times before and still people jump down my thoat.

  • @ToxicTurquoise454 it's okay fella. I respect your opinion and agree with it somewhat! Love ya. Hahaha

  • @ToxicTurquoise454 Well, I don't agree with you, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

  • I think people find it too easy to claim a cover superior to the original for one important reason. The writer and original performer (in this case, Lennon & McCartney) created art from a blank canvas. That's much harder than having the luxury of remaking someone else's work. That said, this is an example of the most impressive type of cover. One that doesn't just copy the original, but puts a whole different stamp on the song. Originality is the key. Plus, Stevie was only 19-20 years old!

  • This is amazing

It brings soul to one of my favourite Beatles songs

  • Definitely prefer the Stevie Wonder version.. So much better!

  • @EoinDM this is nice, but nothing beats the original. period. lol

  • i like Stevie but um i think The Beatles version is better

  • this is like one of my favourites of all time

  • WoW! Fun and interesting changes to this song. What a genius...

  • WoW! Fun and interesting changes to this song. What a genius...

  • I personally believe its absurd how people can say this version is 'the best' and try and make it seem factual and not their opinion. Fair enough if they prefer this version, but c'mon the beatles version is the original and in my opinion, far superior than Stevie Wonder's...
