@AlexGRFan97 It's unfortunate he was struck. I'm sure he loved his job. Not everyone can say they see these F1 rockets up close at race pace. I'm glad someone knows his name. RIP Graham
@SerialKIillerrr because digital tv was not known to general public till about 2003, the only people that would have a full speed replay would be channel 9 themselves
@qwerty21345 Channel 9 weren't responsible for recording the race themselves, just as One HD aren't currently responsible for recording the Australian Grands Prix. Television stations simply purchase the right to broadcast Formula 1 from CVC, the group which owns F1's commercial rights, and the company which Ecclestone represents. The cameras and video feeds are controlled by FOM, and the feed with no commentary is then shared with commercial partners, who in turn use it in their own coverage.
@ROONTANG channel 9 was responsible as FOM feed control only started when f1 digital plus was launched in 1997, n FOM only controlled that, not the world feed. FOM only started controlling the world feed from 2004.

I always get really scared when a tether breaks.
Death of a number of marshals, death of a number of drivers.
Nohjjohnthegreat 3 months ago
@Nohjjohnthegreat There were no wheel tethers until 2002, that's why like every wheel flies off.

How did the wheel get through? Was there a gap in the fence or something?

@corperationblackout
There are always gaps at the places where marshals stand in order to wave the flags.

@SerialKIillerrr digital tv came to australia in 2001, which meant widescreen tv broadcasts for national events, hence the footage

@SerialKIillerrr maybe channel 9 distributed an edited copy to the world press or something, a full widescreen vid of this would be hard to find
