@CommanderMethos No,Im talking about indo Europe,a cultural entity(political maybe) that is believed to have existed once in the transcaucasus 6000 years ago.
In a sense EU is a reunion, history legitimizes her,not the contrary,as some nationalists and patriots ignoring this, like to so much to express.
I honestly thought in the late 90s and early 00s that teh EU would replace the american monopoly not china however I see the reigns have not fallen into her hands. She has the resources and the brains. Could someone who lives there with good knowledge share their opinion as to why they thing Europe didnt take over. Is it because the divide in east and west'? Or mass immigration or why?
Is the EU a country? US for sure is, but NAFTA is not, its a trade block. Is the EU like NAFTA? Because lot of peoples are comparing the EU to US like if it's the only country in North American. We have a total for 23 countries in North America not one.
Last time I checked there were 10 countries in North America, emphasis on the "north".
EU is no a country, it's a... well, it's hard to define. It is something that lies in between an inter-governmental organization and a federal union. Since there is a single market in the EU and a single currency in a large part of it, EU is often compared to other large blocks and countries in the world as if it was one country.
@Winner8501 If u include some Caribbean nations that r independent you will obtain the right number of how many countries we have, but anyway my main question is do you think the EU have all it required to be a world power?Even as a continental union, it size is less than half the size of US. And it military doesn't much with potential superpowers like Russia and China. There is too much difference between EU countries, in term of culture and languages. They going to have to do lot of jobs
EU already is a major power in trade, economy, technology, and culture. It's combined population is 500 million, it's GDP is bigger than the US one and it maintains generally positive trade balance. It's territory is smaller, but most of Europe is fertile land, whereas half of North America is an arid desert or arctic tundra. Militarily speaking, France and Britain alone outspend Russia. And the cultural differences you're speaking about are what makes Europe great.
That said, I don't think Europe *wants* to be a 'superpower' (I find this term obsolete) in the political-military sense. Europeans want peace, security and prosperity through trade and economic cooperation. They are generally less inclined to intervene overseas or facilitate "regime change" in the Middle East.
Also, the common European foreign and defence policy still needs a lot of work, currently it is a joke - it's ineffective, prone to indecision and deadlock due to national interests.
@oktwx101 They only reason why EU GDP is bigger than US is because it's a trade bloc form by Different countries and there population is 500million. But US to have better GDP per capital, is a superpower and the world largest national economy. If it need to combine the whole Europe economy to challenge us, it's cool we are proud of that. and our military budget is the highest with 40% of the world one. Hint: there is a plan for North america union( US-CANADA) just like the EU, UNASUR and AU
We shall have world government, whether or not we like it. The question is only whether world government will be achieved by consent or by conquest." (James Paul Warburg - American master of Europeans).
Both Nations are in debt. Both The U.S & The EU are in serious financial trouble.
And yes The EU will need a bailout if Germany decides to pull out the entire system will collapse.
The EU, along with the IMF bailing out Greece,Ireland, and likely soon to be Portugal shows we all have debt problems. But that's kinda beside the point.
Whether you agree with The EU or not, I think we can all agree it is nice not to have war between the nations and have them work together.
@EuropeanUnionRules Hey, dont pay attention to these idiots=p they probably dont even no what the EU is lol... anyways dont worry mate Im American so I would know this guy voted for George "Warmonger" Bush and masturbates to Bill O'Reilly at night
Europe could be so much more if it came together under a federation. But instead you all fight over your own slowly collapsing markets. It's a real shame it is. A European Federation that was strong like the American Federation would make the world a better place. O well...
contriveis there really a "european union?" no common culture, no common language, no common anything come to think of it. just ad "european" identity.
@maelstone Freemasons are just a fraternity with certain commen ideas adout the world, whos real influence in the world has dwindeld down to nothing after their establishment of the US, they considered that to be mission accomplished. Its a shame a couple of fiction books can create such conviction in a influence that just plain isnt there. You honestly think world leaders let themselves be guided by mythology and symbology of millenia ago?
the EU is a bullshit unity and the EU Presidency thats a bullshit job position the eu president dont even have chief executive power, dont have commander-in-chief power and prime ministry power like the u.s. president plus the eu president only have a 2-in-a-half-year term, the u.s. president have a 4-year term then the eu is not a single nation
We live in democracy my friend, and concentrantion of power on a single person isn't democracy, then we dont have a commander in chief, we have 27, we also have 27 prime ministers so that's a fools point. Then again the EU Comission President is elected in a 5 years term which shows how much you just know.
Also the US is not a single state.
Conclusion, you're a kid with too much national pride and a severe lack of judgement, to know that EU isn't US and US isn't a standard.
Very true, but without the U.S Congress The U.S President has no power.
The U.S is a Federal Constitutional Republic, The EU is a Democracy, but it was the vision of The EU Founders to create a "United States of Europe"(Which will likely be a European Federation). Whether that will be like The U.S remains to be seen.
@JCDSPC Pro-EU people like you seem to openly despise democracy. And yes you're right, the concentration of power on one person isn't democracy, neither is the concentration of power on a collection of unelected, bureaucrats. The commission isn't elected, the EU is undemocratic, and exists solely to wrench from the people their democracy, sovereign liberty, national identity, culture and freedom, to replace it with uniformity and create without their consent a United States of Europe.
@MouseWarlord The eu parliament is elected and they must ratify all eu legislation proposed by the commision as well as consent to the head of the commision and each of its 25 members. the eu parliament does have the power and has exercised the power to refuse a commision candidate. The head of the commission is nominated by the council and ratifyed by the parliament. the parliament has alot of power and is fairly representative.
@CommanderMethos The EU Parliament is elected yes, but MEPs are elected by nationality, so most of the MEPs that represent Britain for example, British people never had a chance to vote for. So if the EuroParl wanted to abolish the House of Commons, they'd be able to even if all British MEPs voted no, and because Britain like all EU members has lost the right to veto. It still stands, the Commission is unelected, with near unlimited power, it can overrule the EuroParl or national parliaments.
@CommanderMethos How the hell does it not make sense? MEPs are elected by nationality, every country votes for a certain number of MEPs. So most of the MEPs in the European Parliament we never had a chance to vote for, because another country voted them in. Therefore most of the people in the European Parliament who are discussing our affairs and making decisions on behalf of us we never had the opportunity to vote for, hardly democratic is it?
@MouseWarlord in the british election system we only get to vote for one guy. all the others are elected by other parts of the country which i have no say on. then again rougthly 50% of the constituencys are safe seats anyway so theyre votes dont count. whereas in the EU parliament i have 9 MEPs representing the area they were elected from. which i do have a say in since they get elected by the PR method.
also i miss read the reply slightly so it wasnt making total sense in my head. sorry
@CommanderMethos Did I ever say I liked the British Electoral System? I want Proportional Representation, and describing the European Parliament as democratic is an insult to the word. It's not Proportional Representation, as the member-states are effectively constituencies, and the Lisbon Treaty has effectively made the European Parliament redundant anyway as they can overrule anything that they pass through.
@MouseWarlord yes the parliament can block any legislation from going through so i dont see how that makes it redundant. i also realise that the eu system isnt perfect and requires reform but it is democratic.
@CommanderMethos But it can't block legislation, because under the Lisbon Treaty THE COMMISSION CAN OVERRULE THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, the ability to block (if the Commission allows it to) legislation that it had no control over or say in, is not democracy. Tell me, how can you call the EU democratic when its only elect-able institution is powerless in the face of an omnipotent, unelected Commission? 70% of law in EU member-states is made like this, by people we haven't elected and cannot remove.
@MouseWarlord that might be true if the council was the commision however they are two seperate bodys. the commision only has the right to act autonomasly in areas concerning monopolies and concessions granted to companies by Member States and concerning the right of workers to remain in a Member State after having been employed there. so unless 70% of eu law is made up of two directives your wrong.
@MouseWarlord When did you vote for every single MP in your parliament? You didn't. You vote for the one in your electorate. Its the same with EuroParl .. each country is an electorate.
@EuropeanUnionRules Did I ever say I liked the British electoral system as it is at present? PR is the way forward.
And anyway, each country is no longer an electorate because the Lisbon Treaty has made the European Parliament practically powerless, it's sad that the only vaguely “democratically” elected institution within the EU is the smallest and least powerful.
@MouseWarlord Some time ago I would disagree. But I just want to correct some of your points. The commission is elected by the ´collection of (elected), bureaucrats.' which we elect by popular vote. And those 'bureaucrats' our parliament are the ones who elect the commission. So indirectly we also elect the commission. But I agree with you now, the Paris-Berlin Axis is trying (and succeeding) to suppress the "PI(I)GS" sovereignty. franco-German imperialism trough "democratic" means.
@JCDSPC In a representative democracy, you vote for someone to represent you, they then make decisions on behalf of you, you don't however elect someone to pass on all their power to another person without your consent and give them higher status than them. And the stuff about the Paris-Berlin axis is nonsense, it’s not imperialism, it's a bunch of Europhile fanatics who want to unify without their consent the countries of Europe, and bind them with an unelected commission and a puppet council.
@MouseWarlord no you vote for mps. then the mps put some guy from the ranks into the office of pm and give him a bunch of powers. same for a president. the elected ministers bestow upon him the power to lead the country in all foreign matters.
@CommanderMethos Not in a real democracy you don't, you clearly don't understand the concept of democracy, having the chance to elect some of the MEPs, who then go on to elect Commissioners that have more power than the MEPs, who then go onto elect a president with more power than the Commissioners and any other man in Europe (who is paid more than Barrack Obama for the little he does) is not democracy, may I suggest you invest in a dictionary to save yourself further embarrassment.
@MouseWarlord may i suggest you stop being ambiguous with terms. there is no such thing as real democracy because there are over a dozen types of democracy. besides barrasso is a commisioner and rompoy is put in place by the council not the commission.
@CommanderMethos There is no ambiguity in the word democracy, you can have variations of quasi-democratic forms of government, but one of the purest and most "true to the definition" is what I believe in. Anyway, answer my question, how is the EU democratic, and after you've answered that, why do you like it? Barroso is President of the Commission and Herman Van Rompuy is President of the European Council, he has the "charisma of a damp rag and the appearance of a low grade bank clerk".
@MouseWarlord because it has a representative legsative body that is chosen by proportional representaition. i like the ideals and believe we should stay and fight to make it what it should be not abandon 60 years work and run away like a bunch od sissies. and unfortunatly there is the various forms of democracy run from socalist democracy to representative and even direct in a few cases. also dont quote farrage.
@CommanderMethos No it doesn't! It's only representative democracy if you had a chance to vote for all of them, and it's not chosen by proportional representation, the Nation-States have now become the constituencies in a first-past-the-post parliament as part of a federalised Europe, but that's rendered irrelevant since thanks to the Lisbon Treaty the European Parliament is the least powerful institution in the whole organisation.
@CommanderMethos The 60 years of work you talk of is 60 years of a trade organisation called the "Common Market" morphing via stealth into an undemocratic, federalised super-state, with nothing but pure contempt for freedom, democracy, the concept of nation-states and the sovereign liberty of European countries. If you want lasting peace and trade cooperation, look to the UN not the EU. And like I said, there are forms of quasi-democracy, but real democracy is what I stand for.
@JCDSPC What?! Okay, we have a chance to elect the Parliament (however the Lisbon Treaty has made the European Parliament redundant and most MEPs Europeans never had the option to elect), we DON'T elect the commission, they are elected by the MEPs, we have no say in who they choose, we don't directly vote for them, so not even in an indirect sense do we elect the commission.
You are such a retard. Yes Napoleon was a butcher, but he did leave his fruit: the cofederation of the Rhine and the Civil Code are such examples. Hitler didn't want a united Europe he wanted a Europe that was under his control and not shared amongst the its people.
And it appears you are in favour of smoking? Dude, you need help
Spenner56. You love going on tangents, dont you. If you bothered to even read whats in the video clip, you would realise your comments are totally unrelated.
@EuropeanUnionRules The history of fascism and slavery goes back hundreds of years, but that doesnt make either right. You cant validate your views with just rhetorics about our "shared" history.
Napoleon was a butcher and murderer responsible for the deaths of millions ! NOT a good example for peace ! Why have you failed to mention that Hitler also wanted a united Europe and also planned a ban on smoking similar to the EU's (though MEP's are obviously allowed to smoke in their two "parliaments").

The EU, along with the IMF bailing out Greece,Ireland, and likely soon to be Portugal shows we all have debt problems. But that's kinda beside the point.
Whether you agree with The EU or not, I think we can all agree it is nice not to have war between the nations and have them work together.

@EuropeanUnionRules Hey, dont pay attention to these idiots=p they probably dont even no what the EU is lol... anyways dont worry mate Im American so I would know this guy voted for George "Warmonger" Bush and masturbates to Bill O'Reilly at night

historically any major change in political boundaries on this level are accompanied by large amounts of bloodshed
even those Americans who claim moral high ground have to admit that it took them 2 wars to form a truly unified new nation
the EU represents the best hope of accomplishing this task without the bloodshed

Can anyone recommend me a documentary about the history of the European Union?
Would be greatly appreciated..

This goes back way further than 400 years.
EUROPA was a mythic semi-god-figure, that according to the myth was raped by ZEUS, disguised a bull...
a closer look at the EU shows symbols from f.ex. greek, babylonian, roman mythology.
freemasons made the EU, like they made the UN...
who else would want something like this ?
who else feels so superior their surroundings, that they feel they must educate others in every aspect of their lives ?
Semi-gods ?
Like EUROPA ?

@maelstone Freemasons are just a fraternity with certain commen ideas adout the world, whos real influence in the world has dwindeld down to nothing after their establishment of the US, they considered that to be mission accomplished. Its a shame a couple of fiction books can create such conviction in a influence that just plain isnt there. You honestly think world leaders let themselves be guided by mythology and symbology of millenia ago?

the EU is a bullshit unity and the EU Presidency thats a bullshit job position the eu president dont even have chief executive power, dont have commander-in-chief power and prime ministry power like the u.s. president plus the eu president only have a 2-in-a-half-year term, the u.s. president have a 4-year term then the eu is not a single nation
extremehustlinTV 2 years ago
@extremehustlinTV
JCDSPC 1 year ago 13
@JCDSPC
TheJosephPrice 1 year ago
@JCDSPC Pro-EU people like you seem to openly despise democracy. And yes you're right, the concentration of power on one person isn't democracy, neither is the concentration of power on a collection of unelected, bureaucrats. The commission isn't elected, the EU is undemocratic, and exists solely to wrench from the people their democracy, sovereign liberty, national identity, culture and freedom, to replace it with uniformity and create without their consent a United States of Europe.
MouseWarlord 3 months ago
@MouseWarlord The eu parliament is elected and they must ratify all eu legislation proposed by the commision as well as consent to the head of the commision and each of its 25 members. the eu parliament does have the power and has exercised the power to refuse a commision candidate. The head of the commission is nominated by the council and ratifyed by the parliament. the parliament has alot of power and is fairly representative.
CommanderMethos 3 months ago
@CommanderMethos The EU Parliament is elected yes, but MEPs are elected by nationality, so most of the MEPs that represent Britain for example, British people never had a chance to vote for. So if the EuroParl wanted to abolish the House of Commons, they'd be able to even if all British MEPs voted no, and because Britain like all EU members has lost the right to veto. It still stands, the Commission is unelected, with near unlimited power, it can overrule the EuroParl or national parliaments.
MouseWarlord 3 months ago
@MouseWarlord dthe first half of your reply doesnt make sense. im i missing something here
CommanderMethos 3 months ago
@CommanderMethos How the hell does it not make sense? MEPs are elected by nationality, every country votes for a certain number of MEPs. So most of the MEPs in the European Parliament we never had a chance to vote for, because another country voted them in. Therefore most of the people in the European Parliament who are discussing our affairs and making decisions on behalf of us we never had the opportunity to vote for, hardly democratic is it?
MouseWarlord 3 months ago 6
@MouseWarlord in the british election system we only get to vote for one guy. all the others are elected by other parts of the country which i have no say on. then again rougthly 50% of the constituencys are safe seats anyway so theyre votes dont count. whereas in the EU parliament i have 9 MEPs representing the area they were elected from. which i do have a say in since they get elected by the PR method.
also i miss read the reply slightly so it wasnt making total sense in my head. sorry
CommanderMethos 3 months ago
@CommanderMethos Did I ever say I liked the British Electoral System? I want Proportional Representation, and describing the European Parliament as democratic is an insult to the word. It's not Proportional Representation, as the member-states are effectively constituencies, and the Lisbon Treaty has effectively made the European Parliament redundant anyway as they can overrule anything that they pass through.
MouseWarlord 3 months ago
@MouseWarlord yes the parliament can block any legislation from going through so i dont see how that makes it redundant. i also realise that the eu system isnt perfect and requires reform but it is democratic.
CommanderMethos 3 months ago
@CommanderMethos But it can't block legislation, because under the Lisbon Treaty THE COMMISSION CAN OVERRULE THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, the ability to block (if the Commission allows it to) legislation that it had no control over or say in, is not democracy. Tell me, how can you call the EU democratic when its only elect-able institution is powerless in the face of an omnipotent, unelected Commission? 70% of law in EU member-states is made like this, by people we haven't elected and cannot remove.
MouseWarlord 3 months ago
@MouseWarlord that might be true if the council was the commision however they are two seperate bodys. the commision only has the right to act autonomasly in areas concerning monopolies and concessions granted to companies by Member States and concerning the right of workers to remain in a Member State after having been employed there. so unless 70% of eu law is made up of two directives your wrong.
CommanderMethos 3 months ago
@CommanderMethos The Commission also creates legislation to be voted on by the European Parliament. I don't see why you defend this organisation.
MouseWarlord 3 months ago
@MouseWarlord i defend it because to a certain extent it is democratic.

@CommanderMethos Nothing can be democratic to a certain extent, it either is or isn't, moderation in the pursuit of democracy is no virtue.
MouseWarlord 3 months ago
@MouseWarlord When did you vote for every single MP in your parliament? You didn't. You vote for the one in your electorate. Its the same with EuroParl .. each country is an electorate.
EuropeanUnionRules 2 months ago
@EuropeanUnionRules Did I ever say I liked the British electoral system as it is at present? PR is the way forward.
And anyway, each country is no longer an electorate because the Lisbon Treaty has made the European Parliament practically powerless, it's sad that the only vaguely “democratically” elected institution within the EU is the smallest and least powerful.
MouseWarlord 2 months ago
@MouseWarlord Some time ago I would disagree. But I just want to correct some of your points. The commission is elected by the ´collection of (elected), bureaucrats.' which we elect by popular vote. And those 'bureaucrats' our parliament are the ones who elect the commission. So indirectly we also elect the commission. But I agree with you now, the Paris-Berlin Axis is trying (and succeeding) to suppress the "PI(I)GS" sovereignty. franco-German imperialism trough "democratic" means.

MouseWarlord 2 months ago
@JCDSPC In a representative democracy, you vote for someone to represent you, they then make decisions on behalf of you, you don't however elect someone to pass on all their power to another person without your consent and give them higher status than them. And the stuff about the Paris-Berlin axis is nonsense, it’s not imperialism, it's a bunch of Europhile fanatics who want to unify without their consent the countries of Europe, and bind them with an unelected commission and a puppet council.
MouseWarlord 2 months ago
@MouseWarlord actually you do. how else does the prime minister or the president do their job.
CommanderMethos 2 months ago
@CommanderMethos You vote them into office possibly? Was that a joke or are you a complete wazzock?
MouseWarlord 2 months ago
@MouseWarlord no you vote for mps. then the mps put some guy from the ranks into the office of pm and give him a bunch of powers. same for a president. the elected ministers bestow upon him the power to lead the country in all foreign matters.
CommanderMethos 2 months ago
@CommanderMethos Not in a real democracy you don't, you clearly don't understand the concept of democracy, having the chance to elect some of the MEPs, who then go on to elect Commissioners that have more power than the MEPs, who then go onto elect a president with more power than the Commissioners and any other man in Europe (who is paid more than Barrack Obama for the little he does) is not democracy, may I suggest you invest in a dictionary to save yourself further embarrassment.
MouseWarlord 2 months ago
@MouseWarlord may i suggest you stop being ambiguous with terms. there is no such thing as real democracy because there are over a dozen types of democracy. besides barrasso is a commisioner and rompoy is put in place by the council not the commission.
CommanderMethos 2 months ago
@CommanderMethos There is no ambiguity in the word democracy, you can have variations of quasi-democratic forms of government, but one of the purest and most "true to the definition" is what I believe in. Anyway, answer my question, how is the EU democratic, and after you've answered that, why do you like it? Barroso is President of the Commission and Herman Van Rompuy is President of the European Council, he has the "charisma of a damp rag and the appearance of a low grade bank clerk".
MouseWarlord 2 months ago
@MouseWarlord because it has a representative legsative body that is chosen by proportional representaition. i like the ideals and believe we should stay and fight to make it what it should be not abandon 60 years work and run away like a bunch od sissies. and unfortunatly there is the various forms of democracy run from socalist democracy to representative and even direct in a few cases. also dont quote farrage.
CommanderMethos 2 months ago
@CommanderMethos No it doesn't! It's only representative democracy if you had a chance to vote for all of them, and it's not chosen by proportional representation, the Nation-States have now become the constituencies in a first-past-the-post parliament as part of a federalised Europe, but that's rendered irrelevant since thanks to the Lisbon Treaty the European Parliament is the least powerful institution in the whole organisation.
MouseWarlord 2 months ago

@ Spanner:
You are such a retard. Yes Napoleon was a butcher, but he did leave his fruit: the cofederation of the Rhine and the Civil Code are such examples. Hitler didn't want a united Europe he wanted a Europe that was under his control and not shared amongst the its people.
And it appears you are in favour of smoking? Dude, you need help

@EuropeanUnionRules The history of fascism and slavery goes back hundreds of years, but that doesnt make either right. You cant validate your views with just rhetorics about our "shared" history.
EurocratsComeNotHere 1 year ago
@EurocratsComeNotHere If you use that logic, then its just rhetorics about our "shared" history for every single nation.

That's post-democratic Europe folks !
Bring back democracy...good luck Ireland !
