  • Warning: Sound is mono - left channel only...

  • Nicely done....

Btw, the cover art of his Jazz Lp's on vinyl - (Previn ) represent perhaps the highwater mark of voluptuous and stunning females on album covers. Scandinavian type beauties that...( in some ways ).. transcend the music.

  • why is the audio so bad :(

  • I love that stop time at 2:20 it then propels the playing forward with new vigor!

  • Interesting that Previn has been one of the best classical conductors and pianists in the world for decades...he almost carves up Oscar here!

    Very inspiring!

  • @radiokid2 I wouldn't say "carves up" at all but he keeps up with Oscar very well. People may not realize that Peterson started out as a classically trained pianist who then switched to Jazz.

  • @tbcass

I know...when I 19, I went to Oscars jazz school in Toronto. He and Ray and Thigpen were there teaching too. Oscar partially studied with his sister, who was a great classical pianist. Some family!

  • this is awesome!

  • Hi friends, you are invited to enjoy a Beautiful free online master class on the playing of Oscar Peterson. You will LOVE this! Type in "Dave Frank" Oscar on YT.

Topics include Oscar's runs, arrangement techniques, voicing, and much more.

    Blessings from NYC

    Dave Frank

  • Wahnsinn, das ist toll

  • They work so well together.

  • when was the last time Chick Corea used the Blues scale?

  • Is there something wrong with the website? I can't get this to play beyond 3:42.

  • Andre Previn' extremely talented!

  • nice !!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!!

  • ¡TREMENDO!

  • What the heck run was that at 2'50???!!!! Holy cow!

Not to mention Oscar's lick just before it. These guys are both geniuses!!!

  • I think people forget that Andre Previn was one of the best pianists when it came to playing both jazz and classical. It's nice to see him swing with Oscar. If you want to see something even more astounding, check out Oscar playing with Michel Legrand on Watch What Happens.

  • pity audio so low ! ! ! !

  • ridiculous....im am now a fan of andre previn...ive alwayz loved oscar but now i like em both

  • Such happy music. It makes me smile.

  • You are right ! As You say: They are open to anything in music !That make them great !

  • I saw this for the 1st time 25 years ago & it still knocks me out. The cooperation & dialogue is so rich because both these men are open just about ANYTHING musically.

Too bad it only happened once.

  • Previn's good but he rushes. Oscar is much more in the groove.

  • no nig no jazz

  • two of the best jazz pianists ever. If you want to hear something crazy listen to previn play jeepers kreepers. gives me arthritis just listening to it.

  • Whoa! Previn is soo good! Of course Oscar is more meaty, but WOw! ^ _ ^

  • I love how humble andre is at his own skill at the piano.

    "something easy"

  • insane!

  • world class talent!

  • This deserves 10 times the views it has.

  • 100% agreed.

    2 masters of their craft!

  • André Previn is a big Oscar's fan, and sometimes he sounds exactly like Oscar (that's impossible for all the other humans like me). I really enjoyed when Oscar started playing the boogie riff (he used to play boogie in the forties).

PD to hawickbod: The cellist's name was Jacqueline du Pré, and his husband was the argentinian pianist Daniel Barenboim.

  • your not right Now one Sounds Like Oscar!!! Oscar is Oscar! sorry and pss Andre Previn Looks at Oscar's hands :))

  • Where did Previn learn to improvise soo well?

  • When He was a young musician he plays and loves jazz a lot and this pleasure remain with him along his life.

Both are great! You are right !

    Thanks for comment.

  • I don't know. He is a great jazz pianist too, but Oscar is Oscar

  • These 2 are beasts at their trade, no doubt!!!

  • best video ever :) great 5 stars amazing gives me goosebumps :)

  • This video is every bit as wonderful as when I heard it live almost 30 years ago long before everyone had a VCR. I'm grateful to find it here & experience it all again. What a high peak of musical excellence not to mention clearly a warm friendship between rival Jazz pianists. What a joy!

  • I agree with You! Thanks for your comment!

  • I saw this on BBC live originally and remember sitting with my jaw in the permanent "down" position.

It was just months before I went to my first (of many around the world) solo concert of O.P. and I've always admired A.P. also (and his late wife cellist Katherine Dupre)for his benign personality, musicianship and the ability to

    embrace all genres.

The hug at the end is surely a true and sincere expression of love between two greats: you can't act that-the music carries through!

  • You're thinking of Jaqueline Dupre. She was marriedto Daniel Barenboim ,not Andre.I agree with the rest of what you said.

  • And André's wife was vilonist Anne Sophie Mutter.

  • Of course OP was a better Jazz Piano player than AP but he was always the gentleman and always took care not to "show up" any other piano player he played with.

  • WOW! I didn't know Andre had jazz chops like that! close your eyes and it becomes increasingly difficult to tell whose who!

Oscar at his peak was the best. Untouchable. Sadly missed.

  • wow, how young they both were...gosh never saw oscar before he died :( andre was the conductor of the pittsburgh symphony for years, when I was young, where I live, but I had no idea of his jazz side, piano side, composition/improvisation side... what a genius, literaly too I find out. This was VERY sweet, nice clip.. the hug made it in the end.. thank you so much.

  • I never get tired of this. heaven just got a lot cooler!

  • They'r both giants.

But OP does carry the bass... He's invincible.

    RIP Oscar...!

  • 2:20 ish André solo was cool

  • omg please put on the old ones all 7 parts pls!!!

  • AGGGHHH! WHAT HAPPENED to the other 5 or so WONDERFUL videos of Oscar and Andre together???

Were you forced to remove them? If so, do you know WHERE I could get them please? Thanks for posting them and I am so disappointed they are no longer there.

Could you possibly just put them on again, if only for a small time?

Thanks so much for this anyway!!!

  • es increible , peterson es extraterrestre , pero previn , muy bien

  • Jesus Christ! Two Jazz Piano Giants playing together, kicking ass so hard. This is why I love youtube.

  • Is there a way I can get a hold of this video with good audio or likewise? Is there a DVD of this? I've grown very attached to this clip and wish there was something I could buy for keepsakes. Thanks

  • Oh no, I just realise that the other parts of the Peterson & Previn video are gone, there were about 5 or so. Were you forced to take them off? I'm really sad they are gone.... Anyway thanks for showing them that long... Yours, Jan

  • Ahh!! Where did the other videos of this concert go? Grr, is viacom trying to kerb inspiration or something??? It's not like anyone is making money off of this stuff because nobodies buying old jazz concert vids!

  • Two of my faves, it groooooves!!!

  • Previn is good, but Oscar sounds like a teacher. He is more inventive, and his sense of rhythm and time is perfect. Previn showed trouble in maintain the correct tempo. Oscar sounds like a clock, extremely precise. But they are all good players.

Listen to the duel between Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock also... yeah!!!!

  • C'est absolument génial ! Deux grands pianistes ensemble, que du bonheur...

It's absolutely fantastic ! Two great pianists together. That's only happiness.

    tatane from France

  • two greats together! andre keeps up with Oscar very well.check out andre on the albumn " double play " for some musical fireworks(with russ freeman)

  • Thanks!

  • is this all improvised??

  • elevateme:

yes, its improvised, but based around the 12-bar blues (I think)

  • Yep, 12 bar blues, key of Bb.

  • I have this whole thing on tape..it's great to see it again :)

  • So do I. Thanx to this posting I don't have to stand up and put that tape in the machine. Makes me feel happy this recording. Thank you egroz!

  • andre previn has a lot of energy and humor. I like his improvising skills

  • That was great. What's it from?

  • It is an old recording.

  • I never thought I would see this again. I remember being stuck to the TV when this segment ran about a hundred years ago. Previn had a TV show at the time. What a treat to see it again. I was especially impressed with the Boogie Woogie duet. Thanks so much for the post.

  • Jim275

Like you, I saw this a long time ago and also thought I would never see it again. Being a frustrated piano player, (i.e., I cannot make my left hand do something different from my right hand. . . well to see my #2 and #3 favorite piano players togethe is beyond words. Steve

  • just outta curiousity, whos your #1 favourite? Tatum?

  • So great to see this again! It was on BBC around 1970. Many thanks for posting it.

  • 1974 to be precice

  • yes, thanks.

  • precise to be precice
