In the Japanese version he was actually called Galvatron, in the dub there were issues of name ownership, which was part of why he went back to being called Megatron.
If it makes you feel any better, he was still Galvatron in the Janaese dub (the Galvatron upgrade he undergoes here was known there as Galvatron G(eneral).)

@DavesVideos313 The special edition was from the 20th anniversary, 3-4 years ago. So "kids of today" certainly didn't miss that.
There is also a certain category of fan who ascribes your word "shitty" to Beast Wars/Beast Machines and all cartoons from the 90s as being "not G1" and bemoaning what's to be done with the kids who thought 90s cartoons were good. And in a few years, someone will be complaining how much better 00s cartoons were than these damn 10s abominations.
@AeonMagnus but you and me BOTH KNOW that the 1980's and trhen 1990's cartoons were way more better then todays worthless shitty cartoons.... gobots, TMNT, MASK, HeMan / Shera, Ghostbusters, etc... just todays cartoons .. SUCK!!!!
@DavesVideos313 I don't agree with that at all. Purely in the Transformers realm, Animated was great, sharing a lot of Beast Wars' best qualities, and TF:Prime is looking interesting. G1 was classic but flawed, while the Japanese continuations were long and laborious; Zone was ridiculous.
TF aside, recent cartoon versions of DC and Marvel characters (Wolverine, Spidey, etc) are pretty cool. Have you watched MASK or Centurions recently? They're pretty naive and cookie-cutter. Then there's Jem.
The point is, there's shit and gold in all decades/eras, and you can't paint them with such broad strokes. Frankly, I'll put Spongebob Squarepants, X-Men Evolution and the Clone Wars up against Gilligan's Planet, Rainbow Brite and the animated ALF series any day, even though you don't.

Putting aside that it's the better part of 6 years old, Energon is not exactly representative of "todays cartoons".
