@MiNnEy1871 Very nice song & cover by Jimi Hendrix, but the description is not 100% correct. The song is not by Muddy Waters. It's true that they were first performing band, but in fact it was written and composed by William James 'Willie' Dixon. Covered after Muddy Waters by many and the most best performers of the world.
More info: Search Hoochie Coochie Man or Willie Dixon in Wikipedia (English version). I'm sorry, can't paste direct links here..
@bakikatana ??? Machine gun was written over a year after voodoo child (sr) was. Voodoo Child started as catfish blues at his concerts, then evolved into Voodoo Chile, the slow blues from electric ladyland with steve winwood and jack cassidy. Then a day later, they made the tight Voodoo child (sr). This was likely the inspiration of jimi's lyrics also, they are quite similar to Voodoo Chile. It's almost as if that song is the music of Catfish blues with the lyrics of hoochie coochie
Jimi is a great artist but i don't think this is even the best cover of the muddy/willie original. check out Chuck berry's version which he apparently spontaneously played at the Toronto festival.
I love Jimi and I love this song, but the combination is not quite what you would expect. I watched Muddy do this song a minute ago, and now I'm gonna go listen to Hendrix do Red House.
@MilkFatMusic yeah, you either need a really light an manuveralble voice(like the way buddy guy does it) or a real heavy voice(like muddy) to pull this song off and give it lots of power. Jimi had neither.
@willwelsh816 how you can say anything bad about this song is beyond me ! just enjoy the great music played buy an guy with real talent and feeling...
@MsScarlettWoman20 love both this song and born under a bad sign, play both of them every time i perform. did this song recently when i played in chicago blues jam at morseland, and did born under a bad sign backed by "two for the blues" band at the same venue, when i sing either of these, i think of muddy waters and booker t, the men who wrote them, and whatever song i do, i always tell audience i sing them in tribute to their love for the blues

I haven't read all the comments, but this song was written by Willie Dixon, not Muddy Waters.
And Dixon played bass on Muddy's version.
Credit where credit is due....

You can definitely hear some licks in here that Stevie Ray Vaughan used in his song Texas Flood as well.

The version from Loose Ends album is the REAL DEAL .
Don't let anyone fool you on this .... This version can't hold
anything against the version presented here. This is
NOTHING by comparison to a more seasoned Jimi when the the LOOSE ENDS Album was recorded .

@kimmedavid I just said that he didn't quite have the kind of voice to pull it off like muddy did. I never said it was unlistenable.

@MilkFatMusic well it is muddy's song... but jimi's version is still awesome!
