  • I have a good collection of Larry Adler's work, but mostly on audio tapes.I converted all of them to MP3.When I thought of giving titles to the MP3 files, I named them' Larry Adler The God Of Harmonica' 1,2,3 and so on so forth. There was a time when listening to him depressed me.You know why. Because I realized that, not in my life time I will be able to play any thing like him.Now I have been listening to him regularly.God made him for harmonica and he became the God of harmonica. rajeev 7898

  • almost make me cryy... wonderful

  • again and again i listen this beautiful melody

  • Who would dislike this Video. Under facist like Joseph McCarthy like other's who hide under the Religious Right are the real criminals

  • heartwrenching

  • Wow, thank you so much for posting this video. Larry Adler was such an amazing guy and came from the same state as me. I discovered him when I started to learn how to play the harmonica because I wanted to learn chromatic harps. One cannot speak of chromatic harps without mention of Larry Adler. If you want to see one of his works honoured, look up Philip Achille. One of those two vids is of Philip playing Genevieve's Waltz, the song that paid for all of Larry's kids to go to college.

  • amaziiing, Larry Adleeer is just great, wud be ma wish meet him.

  • whats with the persian wall decorations ? :D

  • I don't know why, but this vid makes me wanna see Kill Bill

  • @adiman83 You'ren funny!

  • This is an excellent tribute. And the music is so soothing yet powerful, retaining an emphasis on a story and emotions

  • The name of the dancer was Paul Draper. I saw them perform in New York a few times. The highlight of the evening was when they called for requests and improvised dancing and playing. In my way of thinking there was never a harmonica player who could come near to him in pure tone.

  • sheeeeesh! here we are on the doorstep of the greatest crash since 1929 about to d a 1932. me i'm listening to all the best music because that is all that will remain. good fortune to everyone from us new zealanders, kiwi's and ferns. you need it.

  • I played with Larry in the late 1950's as a kid in the UK, and realised that I was a good player but unlikely to ever reach his standard. I then spent time with him 50 year later, in 2000, and he was still fantastic as a performer, a player, a man of high intelligence and an amazing character. Americas' loss, our gain - thanks.

  • forgetmenot1973- this is about a brilliant musician- not politics. close your eyes listen and take it in bless you x

  • I am sure Larry wouldn't share your rebuttal, gplan. He and many other fine american actors, screen writers, and musician were blacklisted during the HUAC witch hunts of the 1950s, including Larry. All under the rubric of preserving freedom. As it turned out, you had your own Stalinist purges. Lest we forget.

  • What is more ignorant is the belief America would allow communist take over. A more conservative bunch exists no where else in the world, they are even scared of medicine for all as it sounds like why should you live for free. I use this as an example of no way Jose. Mostly its a case of kids joining a society at school and forgetting. Its fear instilled in a nation that stultifies. Wasn't it Bobbie Kennedy who made McCarthy look a fool and destroyed him. LA - Fantastic musician, good man.

  • To those who condemn Larry Adler: was he convicted of criminality in a trial by a jury of his peers or by the egotistical ravings of a political hack? Was Adler legally represented? Have you studied the case against him?

The only threat Adler was to America was that workers would stop working to listen to his unmatchable musical talent. and our GNP would suffer...small price to pay for a bit of heaven.

  • No body can come close to Larry Adler..... such a talented man.

  • In answer to bharfarar - - who cares whether he was a communist or not? what did that have to do with his music? And I don't think it was ever proven that he was one, but McCarthy had the power to ruin anyone he wanted, and he DID destroy many innocent people who refused to rat on their friends. jenny_6664.

  • Well done. A lot of people have forgotten that time in USA history and Larry Adler was a perfect example of what happened to many people during that time. Such a talented man and great listening to him and important to remember the reason he had to move away from his country and the resultant loss to the USA in both talent and prestige. Take care.

  • I lived during the House Committee of UnAmerican Activities. To enlighten those who think that we were being attacked, did you know what happened to Joe McCarthy and Richard Milhouse Nixon -- AND Jack Ruby? Surely you know that Ruby was the guy who shot Lee Harvey Oswald?

    Spadecaller is my dear friend.

so appropriate that he choose Albioni's

    Adagio.

  • Concierto de Aranjuez is Rodrigo's work.

  • in deed it is!

check out Tommy Emmanuel's version (second movement)

he did it LIVE with the Australian philharmonic orchestra

  • larry adler is magic!!!!!! he's great

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this video

  • Thank you for this beautiful video of Larry Adler. My mom told me that she saw him in the late 1939s or early 40s performing with a tap dancer, Paul______ (don't remember his last name) Adler was a true genius and did not deserve the treatment he received at the hands of that madman Senator McCarthy.

Would you know if it was his hrmonica doing the background music for "The Rockford Files"?. . . jenny6664

  • No, that was Tommy Morgan.

I'd like to know where this recording of Aranjuez is available though.

  • (later) blimey, I had it on my shelf all along. On a Decca CD called "The Genius of Larry Adler". Wonderful. Thanks for drawing it to my attention.

  • @dixharp speaking of Tommy Morgan and the Rockford Files, he did just about every Movie and TV theme - has a line of credits as long as your arm. He's still performing and doing studio work. The greatest harmonica player whose name you've never heard (because he was always in the studio or playing the harmonica for some star who pretended to onscreen). Look him up - you'll be amazed by just how good the man is.

  • The truth reveals all. Richard Milhouse Nixon resigned the presidency, rather than face Impeachment from his peers. Joe (Tailgunner) McCarthy ended up in an asylum. He could no longer witch-hunt for the innocent, to blame them for something that later turned out to be a political ploy. My great instructor at Portland State University, Andreas Dienum, was himself blacklisted. He wrote the screenplay for the movie, "Cloak And Dagger."

  • Many did not deserve the broad stroke of McCarthy...but do you seriously believe Communists did not infiltrate the media and education? That would be beyond naivete; more like willful ignorance.

  • Wow.

  • Zachin6, i love his videos too. They don't get any better than SC's.

  • Beautiful! I was not familiar with Adler, but man did he know how to play an harmonica. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks again, Spadecaller.
