Sir, I am facing difficulty in playing higher 'pa' - the one which comes in "mandara dhare" (kambhoji geetham).. How to play the very high 'pa' on flute? Blowing very hard is producing notes upto higher 'ma' but somehow higher 'pa' is not coming out.. please help.
Wow that helped me a lot....i recently bought a flute....this video helped me a lot .....can i have more.....I want to know how to play notes on an octave higher and lower on that flute......do we have to vary the blow style to achieve this????? thanx again for the lesson.
I am no expert in Carnatic flute, but can play light music on flute. You just have to blow harder on the same finger position to get the higher octave and blow softly to get the lower octave. Try it on a middle note like 'pa' . So 'sa' blown softly, go upto 'pa' and then back to 'sa' but blow harder to get the upper 'sa'

Generally larger fultes have lower scale, but need greater breath control and shorter flutes have higher pitch and are relatively easier to play.
My own favourite for light music is 'B'
