You could save some energy by replacing that fan with a 12volt car radiator fan. I used one and a 12 volt boat bilge pump to make my swamp cooler run off one 100 watt solar cell. Love your stuff.
@danman911 Awesome! That would be perfect! Thanks man! I will start looking or unhooking one to try asap. I was talking to a buddy about that but the car fan is perfect. Is your swamp cooler on your site? This is really cool getting feedback and ideas. I have been pluggin along for about 10 years on stuff but now is the time to get serious!
I just added you and love your videos. Thank you for all your work. Would love to see some video of your wife dehydrating food. I'm researching that for my family now. Thanks,
Jody
ps. loved the video of your kids with the chickens <3
@Blackoutx86 sure have. I went with hot water because this is something I always have from the outdoor wood heater. I have had it running continuously now for 3 yrs and have come up with a lot of uses. A friend brought me an entire deer to jerky and I couldn't have done it in a solar dryer as the weather here has been cloudy for days. I can run my dehydrator anytime and it gives me the consistent temp I need when making jerky. Solar is great but very limited .
@jknacasual Yep. It is easier for me to hit the temperature range for vegetables ( 130-140 F) than it is Jerky ( 145 + so I am looking forward to drying veggies. Last year we had pretty god success at drying tomatoes and corn. Take care!
@neacie71 Too kind! I have had many of these ideas in my brain for years but this last year I really felt motivated to get them put into practice and have them tested. Thanks for your comments.
@milkbig550 You can definitely taste the difference but I can't say that it wouldn't be better if I just used one flavor at a time. I will be experimenting over the next few months with venison and beef.. I am about to slaughter one of our bulls so I will have a lot of beef to experiment with. Thanks for the feedback.
@Hefferman1 I have a 9-Tray Excalibur and I do think my new one will beat it too. It moves a lot more air than the commercial dryers I bet because of the 12" fan. What kind of unit do you have?
This is such great stuff! Thank you brother for sharing these wonderful ideas in ingenuity. Kind of hard to see but fantastic end results! I assume its excess heat thus dual purposed and simply rechanneled through vents to a small fridge? Is it a happy accident that your drying racks just happened to fit the fridge or did you modify? Also, another maybe dumb question... is the meat raw but marinated?
What kind of radiator is that?

@Donbadajoz Good idea. I also need to be able to control the fan speed too. Lots of experimenting to do but so far so good. Thanks for the feedback.

That seems to work faster than my commercial dehydrator.
I like the idea.

@anyusmoon1 Thank you! I modified the fridge a bit to accept the trays and to receive the heat. Teh meat was marinated in 5 different flavors.
