  • That's pretty sick for just a demo!

  • I'd check out the M-Audio Venom for cheap digital VA synths, it makes the Microkorg sound like a toy

  • is there some "drums" included? (i mean nothing sophisticated just some simple metronome-like beat)

  • The Korg R3 is still a far better synth.

  • does the microkorg xl have phantom power

  • which one has more retro spacey sounds....this one or the korg xl?

If you could only have one...would it be the microkorg or the korg xl?

    thanks

  • did you used preset to do this or made your own sound? It is difficult to realize chords as the one I hear in this vid? Thanks!

  • It sounds like a pretty weedy synth to my ears, I understand the appeal is the size but its not got any of the attributes of that vintage synth sound, smooth pads, deep bass or warmth. Purely a techno toy that will date very quickly in my opinion. Korg are clever though as they are hiding its limitations behind a wall of impressive effects, arpeggios and gimmicks that easily fool the ear.

  • @maccagrabme listen to some other demo's like the one for kraft music that shows a good variety of sounds or ACTUALLY got to korg's website and listen to their demo's.

  • @maccagrabme. interesting comment. what do you think of the Roland SH01 GAIA compared to microKORG?

  • @haikousei I don't really recommend any new Virtual analogue synth in hardware form. Any of the existing free software vsti's can do a lot of those sounds. I used to buy the latest gimmicks from these companies and ended up flogging them and losing money. All depends what music you are making but real analogue will give you the sound you want. Fat bass, smooth strings and warm pads, look at a Juno 6, Jx3p, Jx8p, Alpha Juno, Moog, they are old but sound terrific.

  • @maccagrabme. yes i know. i already got a jupiter.

  • @maccagrabme What do you recommend then?

  • @M0rganstudios these are toys, if you want fun then fine but if you seriously want to make music beyond trance then you will be dissapointed. Do your research, look at Vintage synth dot com for any real analogue synth made within the last 30 yrs then listen to a demo on youtube you will hear a big difference especially in person. They will be far warmer and fatter and sit much better in your mix. You can get any software synth to sound like this demo, maybe even free.

  • @maccagrabme nice, but i've listened to a lot of demos. I always like the Korg ones better. They're just more edgy to me. Other ones sound too nice and clean. Probably just personal preference. But I'll agree that you can make the sounds elsewhere. I had to reconnect with Reaktor for a second time to stop myself from buying stuff I probably don't need. (I have Reaktor 5 and AbSynth1) Reaktor is awesome, just confuses me sometimes.

  • oh my god I love it I want it I'm getting it.

  • Im thinking about buying this Id like to make some really cool technoish music is this the right thing to buy?

  • yeah i got one recently it was well worth it

  • if you're into making electronic music a synth is definitely what you are looking for.

  • I play in a hardcore band.

    Synth during breakdowns.

    Heh.

    This is well worth it.

  • @Darkviking12 is this better than the normal micrKORG for hardcore bands cuz im thinking of doing the sasmae thing and i dunno which one to buy -__- please help :L

  • no buy an EMX

  • can the microkorg play the drums and then let your play a synth while drums are looping? im getting one soon, i just put 60$ down on one, and that would help

    thanks in advance

  • hollyy shit can I get some info on how to recreate the sound from 1:00-1:20 :O :O :O

  • is it better then the roland SH 201???

  • @AlreadyBruno not really but of you're after portability with some killer sounds then this is the way to go.

  • does it have drum presets?

  • Yes, but just kick and snare in the left and right hands respectively.

  • Ok, I'm confused by the whole patch thing. Can you get other patches on the microKORG besides the ones that came with it? If so, how?

  • what patch is the first sound? anyone know?

  • yah i recently figured that out

i actually think im gonna go for r3

its a decent price and a good synth

  • im either gettin one of these, an alesis micron, or possibly a nord.

can i get some opinions on which is better?

  • the micron is over rated IMHO. I had it for about a year and it gave me such a head ache.

A Nord would be BA, but the jump is price is pretty extreme

  • are you kinding

if you can get a nord fucking do it

  • like i said above i recently figured out its more expensive

im probly gonna get an r3

  • isn't nord really expensive? but i think the xl is better since it can be edited on the computer via usb...

  • just about every synth can be edited on the computer through midi or usb. the only thing the xl has on the nord is simplicity

  • so can the xl.

  • can do what?

  • nord

  • japan is in the future

  • @oeconomito yea with an earthquake

  • wow i cant get any of those sound out of it up til now

  • microkorg XL has MMT which is same as Radias/R3, so this is basically a repackaged Radias/R3.

the original microkorg is basically a repackaged MS-2000.

the name is both microkorg but they have different sound generation systems.

if you like more rough and gritty analog simulation than the original microkorg/MS 2000 is the one to get.

the microkorg XL/ Radias/ R3 sounds too clean and polished imho

  • I agree. I like the sound of the Nords the best since they remind me more of accurate tangerine dream and depeche mode patches. My Micron can immitate but not duplicate as well

  • How many piano and other acoustic instrument sounds does the XL have. I am looking for a small battery operated synth with a lot of acoustic sounds, any recommendations?

  • synths are not made for "acoustic" sounds nor piano sounds, i own the old microkorg and it can use batteries but they wont last much time. I once saw a documental from Moog and he was talking about the first synth wich he invented, he said that in a synth you create and modify the sound and a keyboard its like a computer it has a memory with sounds wich you can select with a button and then play, i hope this is useful. get a keyboard with those sounds and good luck with those battery suckers :S

  • you want a sample based synth, microkorg is virtual analog which means it uses algorithms to simulate the sounds of analog synths... not sure if its battery operated, i think theres a keyboard called the Korg Micro (not MicroKorg) that might be sample based (piano, strings, etc etc)

  • awesome!

  • i kinda want this one.... exactly how is it an improvement over the first MK other than looks?

  • the vocoder is more hi-fi than first MK, with gooseneck microphone. i think this is micro version of korg R3.

  • It does splits and layering! It's got MMT oscillators. Erm... and some other stuff.

  • Is the polyphony any better? that's one reason i passed on the MK and got a micron... I noticed the buttons for that neat little Arp gate or whatever the first MK had aren't there, does XL still have that somehow?

  • It's got 8 voices I think. As far as I know the XL is 100% compatible with the original. But the user interface does seem a lot slimer.

  • the XL is now 8 voice polyphony

  • Wait, what's MMT? Is that different than the oscillators the 1st MK had?

  • It certainly is. It's got lots of different modulation options, and some proper samples included (e.g. piano) It's basically the same oscillator model as the Electribe MX, The Radias, and the R3.

  • this is just a demo off the site, right?

  • PHAT :D
