  • i believe your hand palm should be straight not semi curved (bended) when making a muffed tone

  • The nails are probably an influence from Giovanni Hildago. He has much longer nails that contribute to the sounds he gets from the drum. Giovanni is the the best that ever touched the conga, so don't sweat the nails....Practice!

  • Johnny is no longer in Miami he is in Seattle and don't offer opinions on nails if you don't know what your talking about. The nails are used in conga drumming as well to create different sounds. If this was a classical guitarist with their long fingernails you wouldn't say anything about it. There is a purpose for it.
