  • Bravi !

  • Kunde's qualities are so well-served in his music; the heroism, swagger and facility all glow.

  • i thought at first that i loved something special in juan diego florez's voice. It appears to Rossini that is the special thing. Or are gregory and juan diego's voice alike?

  • @roberthaarlem No, Greg and JDF's voices are not the same. Greg's voice is considerably larger than JDF's, which you can tell if you look up the Otello they sang together in Pesaro a few years ago.

  • Notice how the final part of the trio takes after "Martern aller Arten" by Mozart (the part beginning Zuletz befreit mich doch der Tod)

  • I do not think that these Rossini's will fade so quickly. There are a flourishing of Rossini specialist tenors currently: Bruce Ford, Greg Kunde, JDF, Larry Brownlee, Colin Lee, Bruce Sledge, Chris Merritt (still is singing), etc. It's a growing field and I think that we will see more and more Rossini in years to come, as well as Bellini and Donizetti hopefully.

  • What silly comments by semi45. One casts a known star whenever possible. The idea is to make a profit.

Aside, what a treat here. How many times in opera do we have 3 tenors on stage together? Bravo Rossini!

  • Although it's a major step that this opera will be at the Met next year, I think ultimately it will appear for a season-maybe 2 and then be heard no more. Their decision to continue to showcase a soprano who sings however and whatever she wishes will come back to haunt them, especially when there are at least 2 sopranos who could have a triumph but are ignored. It's also going to be hard to find tenors for the other roles- True they have JDF & Brownlee but they cant limit to the Met alone- sad

  • Simply the best!!!! Long Live King Kunde!!!

  • Kunde is even better here than on the CD with Fleming. But of course it's probably not what Rossini intended at all.

Nozzari was the first Rinaldo. He was the lowest of the Neopolitan tenors available to Rossini - not the highest as Kunde is here.

Kunde's kind of high notes didn't appear on the opera stage until Donzelli and Duprez appeared somewhat later.

  • Wow. That was pretty flawless. Bravi!!!!

  • I have always felt that this opera is one of Rossini's masterpieces. This is a wonderful performance of the trio. Finally, the MET will produce it next season with Fleming as Armida.
