I was 16 when this first aired I think, and remember it quite well. It was probably one of the most effective spots ever done on TV, at least as far as reaching teens was concerned. Having other kids making fun of it really made an impact, let me tell you. Never underestimate the power of TV y'all. I certainly never have.
It's supposed to be a joke. When she was a little girl, everyone called her that because she's so damn tiny. It's an oxymoron. Like pro wrestler/actor Tommy Lister who has the moniker "Tiny." Why? 'Cause he's anything but.
I grew up to this show on CBC 1981-89. Seemed to always be on and must be one of my most watched programs all time. I don't know why but Canada throws out some great comedy and writers. SCTV,SNL, Kids in the HAll. Had my nephew over he wanted Treehouse or some shit. I found this. Uncle to the rescue.
Is it just me or is this show much more edgy than anything on now (for the same age range)? Loved it growing up and was surprised at how 1976 SNL it feels. Holds up pretty well, I think.
I miss being a child in the eightites. You can't do that on television should have never been taken off the air. Look at the crap that Nickelodeon has replaced this show with.
We got this show because show writers were still allowed to have a sense of humor about things. We got this show because it was neither pushing nor rejecting the idea of drugs. It was taking the piss at it as they did to EVERYTHING. Real fans got it. Our parents didn't.
What's sad is that now we're being parents and we can't learn from our OWN parent's lack of vision. Sad.
Its too bad such a decent show gave into the bullshit (NWO) DARE War on Drugs propaganda brainwash. I hope they realized how futile it was to be part of it even for one show after the likeliness pot will now be legaized slowly and how pathetic and what a waste of dead lives and tax dollars it turned out into.
I grew up watching this show and many other politically incorrect shows on television as a child. Back then, most kids could understand wit and sarcasm and know the difference between Make-Believe violence and violence in real life. Nowadays were raising retarded bitches that can't handle any kind of stress, be it real or imaginery.
This show was the shiz and I always asked my older sis what happened to it. The slime the Burger guy "barf's" just so fun to watch when I was little. I'm 29 now.
i don't think this show promoted drugs at all. not half as much as the D.A.R.E programs that started in schools around this time. now that is what really got kids interested! this was just trying to get kids to think about how ridiculous drugs were by comparing them to pies in the face. drugs made them look like clowns. i think people underestimate the mental capacity of a young person.

I loved the hairstyles of most of the guys in this episode. Feathered hair is kick ass!!! Just like Rick Springfield wore his hair feathered in the late seventies and early eighties. It's a bummer that feathered hair is now out of style.
Oh, wow. Just wow. It's stuff like this that just proves nick was better back then than its late 99's. they did an episode on DRUGS?!?! DRUGs? the FCC is just full of shit.
Hahaha pie in the face as a drug addiction, personally if I were addicted to pies I won't be splatting my face with them, I'll be eating them one after the other mmmmm cream pies
Disney has always sucked in my opinion. I miss the old Cartoon Network though, when they had shows like Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, Dexter's Laboratory, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and all the old Merry Mellodies cartoons.

Actually, this is a giant step up from the PSA's shown to our kids.
They needed a demonstration on drugs integrating with their lives. If they just did the whole show just saying stay away, the kids might not be convinced. Using pies as drugs was key.
@c3section They demonstrated that pies were comparable to drugs, although I'd prefer the more civilized approach of eating them instead of getting them splattered in my face.
It's funny how every generation thinks theirs was so much better, though. I was born in the 80's, so for me this show was IT... but I know for a fact that my daughter will think I was on drugs to like this, just like we thought the shows our parents watched were lame and cheesy as hell.
Someday my daughter will be telling her own kids about how much better TV was back in the day when there was still Dora and SpongeBob and Zoey 101... UGH. :P
I feel your pain. No matter how cheesy the 80s will look as we get older, comparatively, most of the programming was still smarter than anything today.
What Nickelodeon should do is create a Nick Classics Channel and put shows like this, Count Duckula, etc. on it. I think people would enjoy it. I know I would.
I'm amazed they haven't already... think about it, though- this show is probably old enough now to be put into syndication on TVLand.
o_O
I would have said Nick at Nite, but let's be real. "Malcom in the Middle" is the newest addition to their late-night lineup of "George Lopez", "Family Matters", "The Nanny", "Home Improvement", and "Roseanne"...
I think Nick at Nite has lost it's classics status, LOL. Two cents, anyone? :P
No, Nick at Nite hasn't lost its "classics" status. It's 2009, so those shows you mentioned are officially old now. Personal nostalgia can really warp one's senses.
My senses are fine, thanks- and I know those shows are classics now. I even know what year it is, how bout that?
What I should have said is that the new classic lineup isn't CLASSIC classic compared to the shows Nick@Nite used to aire like I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, or Bewitched. The Nick@Nite lineup once consisted of shows from *several* generations back, not just the most recent.
I did say "two cents...?"- but if you're out to antagonize and quibble at random, feel free to keep yours.
I was trying to make a point about how the past can seem romanticized more than newer things, and you've proven my point. If you're out to antagonize any replies to what initially appeared to be your attempt at discussion ("two cents, anyone?"), feel free to keep YOURS.
lol i actually think they are making fun of all the other tv programs with their anti-drugs messages and how silly and unrealistic they are. All the anti-drug programs of the 80s failed miserably, JUST SAY NO--failed
So true. I really wish I remembered how I considered the "messages" in this show when I was young watching them. I think it was just funny to me...even the ones in the show that were supposed to be serious.
LOL so let me get this straight... the cast got "high" by pieing themselves continuously over and over, comparing the stupidity of hitting oneself with a pie to the stupidity of taking drugs... PURE GENIUS!
This was great back in the day, of course so was 99% of everything in the 80's. I loved watching this as a kid, now I have to worry about what my 10 year old watches, sad.
I remember when i was a kid I used to love watching this show because my parents hated it so much. If my parents didn't utterly despise , I don't think I would have loved it as much as I did. haha, I love the execution scene with the kid pointing a gun to his head! The same can be said of Ren and Stimpy. Man, why does Nickelodeon suck balls now?
I loved this show! But I always wondered if those generic cream pies they used on this show and a lot of other shows tasted good. I always wanted to try one, but they got wasted on faces :(
The custard pie would be just as effective today in order to not make people use. Drugs suck.

Big ups to Pinwheel, The Third Eye, Haunting of Cassie Palmer, Under the Mountain, Into the Labyrinth, and Children of the Stones!!!
Old school Nickelodeon is the ONLY Nickelodeon.

lol i actually think they are making fun of all the other tv programs with their anti-drugs messages and how silly and unrealistic they are. All the anti-drug programs of the 80s failed miserably, JUST SAY NO--failed
DARE- failed
