  • taekwondo fella its not called grabing its called grapling its specialised in ju jitsu as in kicking mauy tye punching boxing sprawling wrestling and etc its why its called mixed

  • Comment removed

  • elbow strike.. .thats muy thai.. the knee strike, is not kick boxing. its muy thay as well...

  • I did Taekwondo for over a year and I can say we use just about any move u can think of. Grabing, punching, chopping, high kick, low kicks, knees, elbows etc. And plus we have some though conditioning lots of sprinting jumping pushups squats and full contact sparring where u can kick at the head. Is tkd efficient? Its used in military pro armys round the world plus its used in special forces. PS: I got my breath kick out tooo many times to underestimate the kick of tkd.

  • @vvzvvvhdhphph Are you sure about what your talking about, because everytime I watch TKD on the summer olympics every 4 years, the TKD is the same old shit, just contact ballet dancing. One would think that after 4 years between summer olympics the TKD teams would have got their act together, but we see over and over AGAIN it's the same old TKD contact ballet dancing moves. The olympics represent the best of all sports, may be TKD should be kicked out of the olympics for good?

  • tony jaa in ufc.....it would be great..

  • OMG that crah test dummy had a family.

  • they say that the mma guy punched as hard as the boxer but the boxer was wearing 10oz gloves and the mma 4oz

  • at 1:28 the chick with i love ufc ches is hot !!!

  • @aliaslindh I see what u are saying, but I would like to point out that this relatively new sport is the one martial art that can be put up against all other pure martial arts and still perform. Mma fighters have to borrow and learn techniques from all phasets of fighting, sure they wont have the fastest kick or stromgest punch or best take down or super technical joint locks but an MMA fighter is taught to perform good on all areas of fighting. So think about how pure MA are linear and focus o

  • sdfshop.com

  • @Clemen79 Your foot connects to the calves which connects to the knees to the thighs to the hips to the ribs to the core to the shoulder to the elbow to the forearm to the wrist to the hand to the knuckle, to the opponents head and BAM!

  • I dont really think that MMA is the best one as he said (imo) cause many different styles focus on different things. Yeah sure MMa has them all but they havent mastered for.ex. kicking as good as TKD master have or punching as well as boxers have. Ih u put mma guy kicking against tkd I think tkd guy will win. same as with boxers. I dont say that mma guys cant be good, of course there can be all amstered mma guys who are good at boxing, kicking, grappling. but to master all those it takes time =/

  • @aliaslindh you make some good points...but even bruce lee said a man who has studied all forms of fighting and is just good at everything but not one perfect (grappling, submissions, and strikes) is light years ahead of a one dimensional master of any martial art...of course a boxer would win at boxing, a tkd master at kickboxing, and a BJJ master at submissions...but as soon as you take them out of their element like wrestling the TKD master or striking the BJJ master their forms are useless

  • @TheBigpoppa89 TKD fighters don't necessarily do well in Muay Thai. You should have used the example of a Muay Thai fighter having skills which can be used in Kickboxing.

  • @57worldwide true..but Muay Thai is the art of 8 limbs so they also use elbows and knees and you can't knee or elbow in American, international, or full contact kickboxing rule sets which most people are more familiar with...therefore, i used TKD...but i do agree it is better and more effective a style of kickboxing than TKD

  • @TheBigpoppa89 dude i dont think a Tkd guy could last 2 mins with a top level thai fighter

  • @JuSKallday thats what i said lol...if you look at my last comment i said Muay Thai is a more effective and better form of kickboxing than TKD

  • @TheBigpoppa89 haha stupid me lol

  • Wow! people are nuts! Even if you dont like Tito, it doesnt change the fact that he is one of the greatest in MMA history, he changed the way GnP is done, Bas well Bas is Bas and if you dont know you better ask somebody. And ask any MMA guy about Dean "the Bogey Man" Lister and they will tell you he is one of the best grapplers/Jiu Jistu guys ever after the Gracies. any of course Randy, well hes what you call a natural. lol

  • @Clemen79 it's pretty badly explained since it doesn't mention that the summation of powers comes from a series of motions. First you start with the feet as if you would jump by extending the leg, then you turn your pelvis to gain more power. This motion is then connected to another bigger rotation of your shoulders in which you sum even more power and then bring it through your arm that adds again power. Indeed it looks like the dude sucks energy from the ground using some magic power LOL

  • @DragonOrderDrawing indeed, kinetic linking is where the power comes from.

  • @YyJoBb Basket, for a fact bro

  • Poor Mirko :(

  • Well, at least 1 of these guys is a legend anyway.....

  • @YyJoBb

    ahahahahaha

    none

  • @Clemen79 just think about it happening to you and just you alone and what it would feel like....that's how it feels.

  • Next video dosent work. Like this 2 let other people know

  • bas all the way

  • @Clemen79 nit an expert in the field however I think that it's the concept of starting a motion and having it amplified by your whole body. For example, if you punch using just your arm and shoulder ( a jab ) you have nowhere near as much power as a haymaker where you use a full twisting motion along with the hit, thus starting your hit from the legs, amplifying with your hips through twisting and finally adding more power with your shoulder and arm. Again, this is just my best guess.

  • @CamaRO9923 Thanks for your reply man!!

  • @Clemen79

Your not gaining energy from the ground. Your leg pushing against the ground pushes you forward (because it takes a lot less force to push you forward than the ground down) and adds the energy of your leg pushing you forward to your punch.

  • @Clemen79 dont know if it helps, but it doesnt suck from the ground. instead the muscles being strong from fist to foot remove any weakness in the bodies technique and therefore power is not dispersed through other areas of the body on the way to impact. the wave of power is like a whip. flick it from near the end and the power doesnt build as much as it does when you create the wave of energy from the handle thus harder impact. deosnt suck power, it enhances every muscle for impact

  • for body shot:bring in bas

for head punch; bring in rampage

    for highkick" bring in crocop

for leg kick: bring in shogun

    for wrestling: bring in cain

FOR TO TEST HOW MUCH VIOLENCE THE DUMMY CAN TAKE: BRING IN WANDY

  • im pretty sure the elbows and knees are borrowed from muay thai, not so much kung fu and karate. when MMA fighter want to practice striking muay thai is always the first choice. karate and kung fu are usually a base as an introductory aspect of MMA

  • @Clemen79 clearly your an idiot

  • @Ferguschch Wow bro...i see more constructive and smart responses to my question than yours, so zero points to your intelligent comment =)

  • Can I buy all this stuff on a DVD? I can not see it on youtube.

  • FUCK i cant see part 2...

  • Thank you for posting this! I couldn't find Fight Science eps anywhere online. I love NatGeo!

  • everyone has different strengths i dont know why they are comparing mma strength to pure martial arts strength

  • @Clemen79 that's a technique he learnt from naruto, that's called external chakra

  • Tito the wizard of wrestling? I'd much rather have Randy for a coach and not just based on personality....

  • @Clemen79 you must be stupid

  • @GrodiPutin "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing." Albert Einstein

  • "Kinetic Linking"

Fancy scientific buzzword for: Swing your fucking shoulders & hips into every punch.

  • @Clemen79 Actio = reactio. If he had a wall behind him to place his foot, he could even maximize the momentum of his punch, instead of just the horizontal part of the vector when standing on the ground.

Also, imagine he was in zero gravity with no wall/floor around. If he than made that punch, he get thrown back with the same momentum (ignoring the energy lost in the enemies deformed face).

  • @Clemen79 What he means is you perfectly calibrate your body to get the most power out of the strike. you aren't sucking up a magical energy from earth. You're just turning everything the right way, for the best strike. your push of the ground with you're foot, turn your hips, and throw your punch all that the same time. the best way to experience what he is talking about is to join an MMA class.

  • 1:28 Great fucking tits

  • @Clemen79 just wanna present tommy1d's words in an easier way to comprehend (for people who don't know Physics). Legs do NOT suck energy from the ground. By pressing your feet on the ground, you joints combines the power of muscles around shin, thigh, shoulder, arms and especially from hip and back. It's the right way to punch, almost al martial arts employ this way. The power output, therefore, depends on correct technique, muscle potential and your own body mass. Thank you. Respect. *Bow*

  • Why wasnt Muay Thai mentioned

  • elbow strikes from karate and kung fu knee strikes from kick boxing. Dont MMA use Muay Thai at all lol

  • second part aint available in the UK, well fuck you national geographic

  • Why the fuck don't they have Chuck Liddell on this thing? Hes more of a legend than Tito Ortiz is...

  • Omggg UFC is not sport like they said!!! MMA is sport UFC is biggest part of tha MMA right now

  • Randys a mma legend bas, and dean maybe but tito? hes a bitch

  • @blazemanfoshizzle A bitch who would kick your ass, a hundred times over.

  • @N4UGTY wow i made that comment over a month ago. Little late isnt it? Your a fucking loser and a pussy just like tito

  • Comment removed

  • can u send me the whole vid?

  • why is tito on this shit! he was only good against scrubs

  • @Clemen79 Newtons third law + sequential summation of forces

  • @tommmy1d Thanks man!! I should have pay more attention during my physics class =)

  • what about science of qigong? Also, a crashdummy is not the same as an actual person. Especially not somebody who is in the ring in front of a million viewers, his peers and those who are responsible for giving him his $100K cheque.

  • Part 2 is blocked due to copy right

  • if kickboxing doesnt use knees then why is Remy Bonjasky called the Flying Dutchman\Gentleman think about it genius

  • kickboxning does not use knees tards

  • @suprempuk weird coz i'm kickboxing for 8 years now, and i allways used knees, even in competition... So wtf ur talkin' about lal

  • @Kontrozit It's elbows and clinches that were illegal right?

  • @Judothrow5 Yep Elbows and clinches, but it depends on the competition, if its a normal kickbox competition then its not allowed, if its a traditional Muay Thai fight, then ur allowed to used elbows but no clinches :)

  • this is retarded, they dont even kno how to do a experiment

ur ment to have constants, especialy mass of participants.

  • by far technique the biggest factor

  • I'm pretty sure the technique in a boxing punch is the same as in an mma punch. Same with low kicks or anything else. Only difference is whose throwing it. The experiment is pointless. A better comparison is between a Karate reverse punch and a boxing punch.

  • "Mistique" of martial arts? Where?

  • MMA isn't a martial art. Its an event for martial artists who cross train. Similar to a martial arts triathlon.

  • can someone tell me the song that starts at 2:55

  • bas ruten is a funny guy

  • if anyone can tell me the music that starts at 2:55

  • These dudes arent mma fighters, they are UFC fighters. There are great fighters in M-1 also. There are awesome bjj experts and great strikers. For getting the fights to the ground, the best fighter is yura ivlev in M-1.

  • @MursuTheMan "These dudes arent mma fighters" Yes they are...they are more specifically UFC fighters, not instead of...

  • TAEKWONDO BITCH!!!

    TKD RULES an mma

  • tito cant compare with the rest, he looks pathetic standing next to bas rutten and randy couture

  • this is retarted kung fu or karate hasent given almost anything to mma karate fighters switch thier style to adapt to mma knees come from from muay thai and so do elbows plus they forgot judo which is very important in mma to

  • Bas ruttan: i like his haircut LMAO

  • 4 people with no taste

  • knees doesnt come from kickboxing... its not even allowed in that sport

  • @suprempuk Yeah the use of knees in mma usually style those of muay thai

  • The very KEY to the punch! Technique! From how it's thrown to where it lands.

  • @KajHags what is :D supposed to mean

  • @KajHags i am not dreaming.. bas hit with over 100 gs of force

  • @KajHags actually your wrong bas rutten can hit harder and faster then mike tyson

  • oh my god..these mma figthers...ARE OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!

  • @KajHags Their power comes from applied skill. I hope you realize this.

  • I have a huge respect for MMA and MMA fighters, just as much as I respect boxing and boxers. But, it's an unfair comparison between MMA legends and a no-name boxer for punching power. Bas Rutten is a powerhouse in striking. If you wanted to compare his power to a boxer's, bring Mike Tyson in as the control.

  • @DJUnrealGL bas could still hit harder then tyson. he is from kyukoshin karate which is known for power and on one recording he had over 100 gs of force

  • @DJUnrealGL Not just that but they pay no attention to weight classes

  • @DJUnrealGL Just one point, Bas has had more Sub victories than KO's.

He's a hard hitter that's for sure, but there are way more freakishly powerful guys like Rampage who hit at 1800psi (4800 Lbs of Force), which is more than any HW MMA fighter on Sport Science has generated.

By comparison Mike Tyson generated 1850psi on Spore Science, just 50 more than Rampage.

  • @omglollmao123 cain velasquez measured 2230psi and hes a wrestler

  • @ageeeeeeeeee No he didn't. Cain's punch was measured in Pounds of Force, not Pounds Per Square Inch.

Converting Rampage's 1800psi into Lbs of Force: (((1800*6)*8)/12) = 4800 Lbs of Force

Rampage hits much, much harder than anyone that was on the show, aside from Tyson.

  • @omglollmao123 they said it themselves cain hits harder

  • @DJUnrealGL They should have an average of boxers and MMA fighters.

  • @DJUnrealGL I totaly agree on your comment.

  • the last part, grappling. does NOT come from brazilian jiu jitsu. it comes from japanese jiu jitsu. JJJ is WAY older than BJJ. Even Judo is older.

get your facts straight, national geographic!

  • @wubs23 you do realize that the gracies learned grappling from mitsuyo maeda he didnt teach them japanese jui jitsu he taught them kodakan judo for he didnt know jui jitsu bjj isnt even jui jitsu its just the gracies version of kodakan judo

  • @actionmanrandell: really? funny.. because they call it brazilian JIU JITSU, and use jiu jitsu locks such as shoulder locks and leg locks, which are forbidden and not taught in kodakan judo. I did judo myself for 12 years.

  • @wubs23 they may call it brazilian jiu jitsu but the gracies were taught grappling from maeda and he never once learned jiu jitsu he learned kodakan judo from jigoro kano

  • crap how they block it..

  • MMA looks a lot like Pankration.....

  • @burleymullins it is but were not sure about how extensive the origianl pankration was since it died out then was rediscovered through greek art im guessing it used to be much more since greek warriors where trained since childhood and millitary service required for all men that and pankration means all powers which is kind of a euphamism for mixed martial arts

  • BAS RUTTEN!!!

  • Holy fucking shit...you're retarded..

  • ADORO LA UFC...SOY UN MALDITO ADICTO.......NO HAY NADA MEJOR Q ESTE DEPORTE.......QUIERO APRENDER A VER SI ASI YA NO ME ROMPEN LA MADRE JAJAJA

  • thx for the upload just wish the commentator didnt talk so much bullshit and say that ground and pound belongs to the category of leverage... wtf is the kimura then?

  • the video 2 is blocked for brasil.... come on netgeo guys...let it be... net geo is better than this... put in a lower quality than but bey it be! This is 2010!!!!!! dont let the money be the focous! NAT GEO!!!!!!! GEO!!!!!! not NAT. wake up.

ps. I have cable!! with netgeo.

  • thanks for upload mate

  • he means 150000 dollar and not 150 dollar :D

  • No disrespect to the legends here (not lister) but if you're testing for power some younger top fighters would probably be much better

  • 6.22 no locking in Original ju jit su ???? why Brazilian?????

  • @yimmiytube bcuz bjj is on the ground not normal japanese jiu jitsu

  • @politie210 You need to do ur homework 41 yrs in JJ and 28 in BJJ ,i can say for fact jujigatame,(armbar) jujigarame( kimura) , jujijime (Cross Collar Choke) Hadakajime (Rear Naked Choke), Kesagatame, Katagatame, Tateshihogatame etc These all were taught to the Gracies by Mitsuyo Maeda who received his training in JJ in 1890s and then went on to study judo under Kano which was a sport version of JJ. So ground tech used today in BJJ was in JJJ 2000 + yr ago. before BJJ ever was thought of.

  • @TimA340 mitsuyo maeda started out in sumo wrestling he later went onto kodakan judo on jigoro kano. never once did he study jui jitsu. you need to do your research because it even says this in his bios even various gracies site this in books

  • @TimA340 Maeda was born in Funazawa Village, Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, on November 18, 1878. He attended Kenritsu Itiu high school He practiced sumo as a teenager, but was not ideal size. Because of the interest generated by stories about the success of judo at contests between judo and jujutsu that were occurring at the time, he changed to judo. In 1894, at seventeen years of age, his parents sent him to Tokyo to enroll in Waseda University. He took up Kodokan judo the following year

  • @TimA340 copy and paste from wikipedia much?

  • @crazyjake29 Actually thanks for the compliment on my historical knowledge of the art, but no dont have much use for wkipedia , sorry to dissapoint you. And from what I heard from reliable sources on several occasions wikipedia apparently copied me lol now fancy that. guess imitation is best form of flattery. oh sorry did i copy that too crazy lol my bad :0

  • @TimA340 hey no harm no foul. ive just checked your profile, so its obvious you know your stuff. ive very recently just started BJJ lessons and according to wikipedia, i should have my blue belt within 1-2 years :)

  • what channel is nat geo on? i keep forgeting.

  • What is with American documentaries and repeating information a minimum of five times. Great! I fucking get it, now move one.

    This narrator is also terrible.

  • muay thai no.1 !

  • thanks for uploading ;)

  • that boy would take your fuckin head clean off. but how come the boxers dummy is allowed to go so far back with the punch compared with the other dummy thats fixed more solidly. at 8.46.?surely that affects the whiplash etc. getting the full brunt of the force instead of being allowed to fall back?

  • emelianenko number 1

  • cro cop have a high kick about 750 kg

  • Bas Rutten. What a fighter and a character.

Shoulda brung in Fedor. "We're gonna need more dummies!"

  • what about cro cop kick ?

  • rutten`s kicks are slower than cro cop... but much mor powerfull... the most powerfull kick on the ufc

  • he says elbows come from karate, knees comes from kickboxing aka. muay thai :)

  • @92845756 how can you say that, there is no ruke that says its fomr muay thai karate. it is in basically every martial art...

  • @92845756 muay thai or karate

  • @92845756 he says knees come from kickboxing wich is near muay thai ^^

  • @92845756 knees are a very important part of karate.

  • @92845756 listen well kid...he said the elbows pund like hammer from karate and kung fu, the knee strikes from kickboxing...and one great example is muay thai...try to watch again at 5:23 and 5:34

  • to bad we all know chuck norris wasnt allowed in lolz

  • @lostchild187 yeah, bruce lee woulda washed the floor with him

  • rickson was there for jujitsu..

  • hey you guys see those huge pair of boobs at 1:28

  • holy shit fucking omg THOSE WERE HUGEEE !! :D !!!

  • @rhicdmost lol i love them ^_^

  • @rhicdmost what do you think? hahahaaha

  • hahahahahhahahaha

  • the test subjects should have been:

    Randy Couture

    Bas Rutten

    Rickson Gracie

Rickson makes for a helluva better grappler then Lister, and Tito shouldn't even be there. If they had any questions about wrestling, I'm pretty sure Randy has the answer.

  • You gotta love that this wasnt filmed long ago and the only person still in mma is coulture

  • awsome

  • ugh nat geo is so fucking hyper, why all this flashy shit and annoying music?

  • does anyone not love bas rutten more after watching this series?
