Well there is only about 1% fraud in welfare. So all the reduction of welfare etc actually HURTS children. It seems to me the GOP are against welfare if the recipient is not white. When the story of Bristol's pregnancy was slowly being leaked last year by the McCain campaign itself, it began with the stuff about the special needs child Palin had just had not being hers. They went on to blame "liberals" for all this speculation, all while they indulged that, yes, Palin's eldest daughter was expecting.

Roe has only been in effect since 1973. SCOTUS appts are for LIFE. The courts are far from stacked. Remember the Gang of 14 in 2005? There are several reasons that conservatives hate John McCain; that's a big one there. Only three strict constructionists have been appointed -- They are Chief Justice William Rhenquist (Nixon) and Justices Antonin Scalia (Reagan) and Clarence Thomas (Bush 41). By 2006, one swing vote and one constructionist have been replaced, a net increase of one conservative.

Well there is only about 1% fraud in welfare. So all the reduction of welfare etc actually HURTS children. It seems to me the GOP are against welfare if the recipient is not white. Since minorities are so often cited by GOP supporters as abusing the system by having a lot of children, even tho poverty is the real culprit. In the end it's the child that suffers. So keep up those abstinence only programs that have been proven not to work. That's why there are so many "Bristols" in the US.

Welfare is not only for children, and there is far more welfare abuse than 1%. Clinton wouldn't have passed welfare reform; he needed to seem moderate after the 1994 defeat in the midterms. As for abstinence, it worked for me and my school. I still remember the nurses kicking the boys out of the room, putting a banana on a condom and enumerating the facts of life.

People are reading into both of these people's statements whatever they want to see. I am still amazed at the level of hatred coming from folks who don't even know Palin or Obama personally. It sounds as if Brown was saying Palin's daughter should be looked at no differently than Obama's mother - both chose to keep the child growing inside them despite their young age. No official records showing that a legal ceremony ever took place. No witnesses (to the alleged civil marriage ceremony) no family members were present, and none of their friends at the university had the slightest inkling that they were even engaged. No wedding certificate or photograph of a ceremony for Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. has ever been found or published. They never even lived together.

Now the reactionary dummies here probably do not recognize the subtlety of the McCain campaign's strategy, and especially now, with Palin herself inoculating herself from criticism in the same manner. That was the point of the campaign initiating the bullshit to begin with.

This strategy effectively gave the campaign both an imaginary foil and a distraction from the fact that Bristol had done something they would have been critical of, say, if one of Obama's daughters were in the same situation. It also gave them an opportunity to harp on the "liberals" for picking on Palin's child, when in fact, it was the campaign itself attempting to foment outrage on the left and sympathy from the right to hide the fact that they did not vet the Alaskan governor properly.

We get back $1.59 in productivity for every dollar spent on infrastructure, while we lose 70 cents on the dollar if we made Bush's tax cuts permanent.
