what if i dont even have 1gb of ram i got 512 mb 447mb usable 3.33GHz but when i go to Run > Dxdiag > and look at Page File it says 4970mb AVALIBLE! please can you or anyone help me?
However, as programs and OS's go today, this is not really enough. I would recommend setting yours to 2000MB, or 2GB and rolling. Windows is not going to use this much or page file at all if it doesn't need too. As was stated previously, if you have 512MB ram, that is low, and if you are hitting page file ever, get more ram. The page file is the hard drive, it's a SLOW SLOW backup so you don't crash cause there is not place to put the information in memory.
Using pagefile SLOWS the computer a bit! 1.5 is not a good counting. 0.5 should be better for performance. I recommend turning OFF the pagefile if you have enough memory to deal with. How to know do you have enough ? Just disable the virtual memory and enjoy the better speed. If you see memory notifications or other issues just add 256 mbs and than 512 and than 1024 . For me that's the way to find the fastest step :P You can NOT say 'how many average memory do we need' and that 1.5 is just not !
@pvtjamesryan3 I think you must be retarded for saying that because he knows what page file means! u dont know shit so you came here watching his video. GOD DANM YOU GUYZ GET A FUCKING LIFE!
Hi, PCMichiana. I really need your help. I followed all of your instruction in the video. I then restarted my machine so that the changes could take affect. Unfortunately when i logged back on, i opened up the paging file information and it says next to my drive "system managed" and the "automatically manage paging size for all drivers" checkbox is not checked. The boxes to type the memory number in is also blank. I am confused. Could you mind helping me figure whats going on? Id appreciate it!
I have also heard that putting them on another hard drive that your OS is not on is best, is this true? I have 2 other hards drives on my system so i put it on my internal 500gig drive, and my main drive/os drive has no paging file on it.
@Gaiagow Windows only relies on paging file once they have ran out of system memory. In either case it will fall back on paging file. We are just making sure windows already has the allocated amount of paging file set aside for if this happens. Optimally, of course, if someone has to rely on their paging file they NEED to get more memory, but we might as well optimize the paging file just in case it happens. Good question.
i have 2.37gb of ram??

how you "actually" or "virtually" see the speed difference by doing this?

447 x 1.5 = 670MB

Hey it's easier if you hit the windows button (or go to start), type "calc" and hit enter don't you think so? pufffffff god...

It is wrong!virtual memory can not turn off! You just turn off the page file.If you have other tools, you can see the virtual memory is still here

Very nice guide, I had the same amount of physical memory so it was perfect! The whole paging memory thing finally made sense. Thanks! :D lol

Wouldn't this make things slower since RAM is faster than Hard Drive memory?
