The Germans were destined to lose the war once they did that, it didn't really matter whether the Americans got involved or not. The Soviets would have eventually done it without them.

Given that Germany had lost WWI, the new borders to Poland were quite reasonable, and roughly corresponding to the language border, apart from Danzig. The tremendous losses came after WWII, when Germans were ethnically cleansed from nearly 25 % of their territory (east of the Oder-Neisse line). But that was only possible because of Nazi brutality before, it was Hitler who had opened the Pandoras Box.
