I don't think various shows" kept taking the drums from Karen" - it was more of a conscious decision by by Richard, as he realized she was the vice/star. An agreement was supposedly made where she would front the band on ballads, and she would still play drums on more upbeat songs In later years, she almost never (unfortunately) played the drums.
I've been so infatuated with Karen the past 4 days I've listened to her incessantly. I think it began a few days before Christmas with "Merry Christmas, Darling". It's really got to stop. I haven't started skipping meals, but I've got to put this to an end.
I love how she sinks into her own voice and it just sounds so relaxed and easy no matter what she is singing. It just makes it impossible to not to love.

She Sounded just as good live as she did in a studio cant say that for most of the american idol , voice,and X Factor people some are good some are amazing i just feel for all the good artist that scratched their way up . then have a slew of people get it handed to them most are not heard from after their first year or two.... hating on the reality shows these days

I agree. Karen was incredible and brought the songs to life with her magical, one of a kind voice but Richard definitely deserves more credit than he gets. He was so much more than just the piano player. He composed, arranged and wrote/co-wrote quite a few of the groups hits. He was also great at taking good songs and making them great with his incredibly arrangements. Richard is a genius to me, I think he's supremely talented, as is Karen of course. Great duo. LOVE THEM!

Singing in heaven's choir, somewhere up near the front. Like her or not, whatever your opinion is about her, that voice immediately stands out as soon as she hits her first note. Completely under-appreciated, but the industry captured enough of her recordings so that 40 years later we can compare her to other singers, other generations of sound. She definitely marks a fine era in music though, a little soft for that time, softer even now considering the backdrop of today's muzak.

She was even described by a University Professor as having the most perfect pitch and sang every song with perfection so much he went on to say he has never heard anything like it since and didn't think he ever would again. The most angelic, fluid and soothing voice there ever was! I have been saddened over other celebrity's death's before, but when Karen passed away, she was the only one to ever bring tears to my eyes! I am still sad to this day over losing her! I can only imagine what her brother Richard has had to go through.

I hated the way the producers of the various television shows, kept taking away Karen's drums, and having a studio drummer play them for her.

But one must leave space on the shelf for the Karens and Neils and Franks. Look you can even hate a Manilow tune, but you gotta admit that the boy can sing. Karen was my first crush. C'mon she sounds like a goddess, she's cute, and she plays drums! The world is a diminished place without her.

Singing in heaven's choir, somewhere up near the front. Like her or not, whatever your opinion is about her, that voice immediately stands out as soon as she hits her first note. Completely under-appreciated, but the industry captured enough of her recordings so that 40 years later we can compare her to other singers, other generations of sound. She definitely marks a fine era in music though, a little soft for that time, softer even now considering the backdrop of today's muzak.

@thewesternarc I Agree.... My opinion is Karen Carpenter has the most perfect voice of all time. She was even described by a University Professor as having the most perfect pitch and sang every song with perfection so much he went on to say he has never heard anything like it since and didn't think he ever would again. I adore Karen Carpenter and what her and her brother were able to accomplish.

Thanks to the "Metal Heads" as you call yourselves for loving Karen! You are aweseome! She was a joy to behold, without a doubt. Imagine being Karen's brother, Richard, and losing his sister and music partner.....that thought alone is enough to make a person cry. I remember the day she died, and it was devastating -- and I was a fan....but poor Richard --- what would that have been like for him. :-(

@pbrick6301 Excuse me, but Richard is the Rodney Dangerfield of music. Karen herself said Richard picked , arranged, & produced the songs - "other than that he doesn't do much." Let alone his great keyboard abilities. It was Richard who recognized Karen's singing abilities, and supported her to sing/front the band. Richard knew what songs best fit Karen's voice. My only dig against Richard is that he should have let her remain on the drums, as that was her identity.

I grew up listening to The Carpenters and have always been fan of their music. Karen's voice is unique. No one sounded like her then, and no one sounds like her now. She gave the world a gift every time she sang. I just wish she'd found the personal happiness she gave to so many people through her music. She's been gone for nearly 30 years, but her fans haven't forgotten her. Richard & Karen,...The Carpenters. Now that's good music!!

When you think of the book Little Girl Blue & the emphasis to make Richard Carpenter look like the bad guy, isen't it sad what the world has come to... Have you, or me not made mistakes in Life, or said if I knew then, what I know now. The most important think that I could share that I'm most certain about is that Richard Loved Karen more than anything on earth. The most angelic, fluid and soothing voice there ever was! I have been saddened over other celebrity's death's before, but when Karen passed away, she was the only one to ever bring tears to my eyes! I am still sad to this day over losing her! I can only imagine what her brother Richard has had to go through.
