That was the first recording of Verdi Requiem by Ferenc Fricsay with Maria Stader! You should hear the second one from 1963! Everyone knew that Fricsay will die; the entire music is one single Prayer! Stader told me that at the End the entire Audience was crying because everyone knew that it was Fricsay's Requiem himself! And it was recorded live! - For me the recording of the Century of Verdi Requiem!
@JonoHashmo a lot of classical is performed too fast I think these days, slow it down ppl, how is the music supposed to have its extra dramatic effect when you treat it like a 16 year old Prom date!
Thank you very much, This is a very usefull fact. As you know this is an ecclesiastical text for that reason I always pronounce the "C" like "ch". Do you speak spanish? because muy last coment was in spanish. Greetings.

I couldn't possibly rate any of the Mozart, Berlioz, Faure or Verdi's requiems against each other - they are all absolutely fantastic.

Who is the Conductor? I think it's Ferenc Fricsay, right? and the record is 1955, eh?

This is my favorite of any recording I've listened to. Maria Stader has a perfect balance of passion, anger, and terror. Absolutely beautiful.

This is slowly beating out Gabriel Faure for "best Requiem."

It was convention back then in German-speaking areas to pronounce the Latin 'c' like 'ts'. Everybody did it.
