I still don't understand what upset Michael Nyman quite so much about the use of his music in this magical film. Few mainstream film composers get their music showcased as wonderfully as this, with long, gorgeous scenes in which their music is centre stage along with the visuals.
Thanks for uploading. It's made my day to see this beautiful scene again!
3:08- I love Marie Angel as Iris (red dress)- i get wonderful goosebumps and shivers when she sings the line ' a contract of true love to celebrate'. Ten minutes of pure joy and beauty! :) xxx
Ute Lemper (in white) puts in a mind-blowing performance here. This was her first time singing in English and she nails it beautifully. This piece, "Masque", on the cd, is probably the most haunting on the entire soundtrack. Michael Nyman composed a wonderful piece, one befitting a wedding.
The rest of the film? Well, Greenaway took serious liberties. The Tempest is something of a comedy and fantasy whereas this film makes it more of a tale of revenge.
Where did you get this? And how did you edit it? I've tried to work a copy of this movie in Adobe Premiere and so far I haven't gotten anywhere with it.
Unlikely to ever be bettered - it stands a pinnacle of cinematic excellence - a shining example and terrible accusation to all whom claim to hold their art in high regard ... and unintentional indictment of the same...
No doubt someone will remake this in 3D using CGI and rename it 'Penthouse - The Medieval (sic) Years' ... Thanks for uploading this ... :)
And the Goddess appears in triad to bless the wedding (Ceres in white, Iris in red, Juno in black) Honour, riches, marriage-blessing, Long continuance, and increasing, Hourly joys be still upon you! Juno sings her blessings on you. Honour, riches, marriage-blessing, Hourly joys be still upon you! Juno sings her blessings on you. Hourly joys be still upon you! Juno sings her blessings on you.
Nice mythologies…great!

I fell in love with this film when it first came out. My kingdom (apologies to Will) to have this kind of cinematography.
