i think neil was at his best before he started getting tips from Freddie Gruber (rip). of course at that time Neil was quite a bit older, but he seemed to lose some of his fluidity when he got with Freddie. Again, age might be a factor. But Neil is the Master bar none.
Neil said that due to time constraints on the and "tape"...he originally didn't want to put the solo on at all, but Lerxst and Dirk insisted. So, he edited it himself to include only the new parts different from the Power Windows tour solo.
I have watched this video atleast a hundred times over the last 3 years and everytime i wish i had a set of cowbells and drum sticks to try and play on them like he can.
Alex and Geddy thought he was a geek when he auditioned..Pure god on drums..Thank goodness he hit the triplets and blew them away...Where would they be right now?
Neil is The Best EVER, but I am impressed with the "New Breed" of Death Metal drummers who go full speed at all times. Richard Christy from Iced earth and that Dude from Lamb Of God are 2 that come to mind. Much respect to the new school.
I wouldn't call Neil Peart the best drummer in the world just because to prove that we would need to get everyone on the Earth to play drums for us. However its easy to say he is the best known drummer in the world hands down :)
I would recommend avoiding original simmons pads. Neil dumped them because they are like playing concrete, and they were unreliable. It's better to use modern pintech, yamaha, hart dynamics or roland. Even the roland td-3 kit is far more capable and reliable than simmons. I do miss the cool looking red hexagon pads.
Not only does he have amazing fills and plays like a madman all night, like 4/5 of the way through the show he pulls off a drum solo like this!! Not to mention, before playing a show, he locks himself in a room backstage with a practice kit and plays like this for 20-30 min. to warm up!!! This man is beyond words!!!!!
I love how the synths and guitar slowly fade away but Neil still continues with a kick ass beat! Gives me the chills up and down my arms .. greatest drummer of all time .. FACT!
I saw Rush with Blue Oyster Cult, at the Charlotte Colosseum, back in 1976 right after they put out "All the World's a Stage".
Between the two bands, there was enough lasers to cut through a battle ship!
They rocked then, and the STILL rock! How many other bands out there have lasted as long as Rush? And I mean lasted, not broke up, and reformed twenty years later!
If Buddy rich and Neil Peart were to engage in a drum battle, Chuck Norris himself would say "You guys rock" Coming from Chick Norris that's saying something!
this took forever to buffer like 15 minutes and im usin a frikin mac!!! ya but it still is a great vid considering that i can play very well on the drums it inspired my school performance w/ the snare solo but rush is the greatest band ever and i hate rolling stone magazine cuz they dont like rush!! crazy fools!!! love rush may they go on tour again!!!
it's certainly a much more aggressive style of drumming, i mean, there is hardly a second when he isn't putting every ounce of strength into each note
