NurseTree, you are so right, I feel exactly the same when I hear this awesome song. It goes just so deep into my soul, unexplainable. I have heard many versions by Neil, and this one has that effect the most on me.
@ndhan72 while he does not write these types of great mesmerizing songs, he still does write really good songs, his 2 rick rubin albums produced at leat 10 songs betwenn the two albums that easily could have been part of his early recordings, look up one more bite of the apple, it is GREAAATT
This is my all-time favorite Neil Diamond song. Do you ever hear a song that is so achingly beautiful that you wish you could be a bigger part of it rather than just being a passive listener? I don't really know how to explain what I mean by this and I know it sounds strange. I guess I'll just suffice it to say that I LOVE this song.....
I remember seeing this video on tv back in 76. I was 15 and now I am 51.I recall
finding myself on my knees, just sobbing over Neil, off course my parents thought,
I was 'nuts'. They knew I had agreat admeration for him there was like apowerful energy drawing me towards Neil. Thanks for this great video of gorgeous Neil.
I can cherish in my heart forever. So Love to Neil always.....
I've heard and seen a lot of versions of this tune, but this one far and away feels the best to me. His voice is unbelievably smooth here, the phrasing is gorgeous. Thanks Neil, for everything you've done.
This song has so much emotion in it,so personal! His 1976 Australian concerts was so beautiful. You are so lucky to have seen him live in his prime years! I'm looking forward to see him in April for the first time! I'm so fortunate and grateful for that!
the man in the background on guitar sitting is Richard Bennett...i beilieve Dennis St John was still the drummer in 76 ........King Errison on percussion..Mr. Mrs. Press and the rst of the crew.
I've seen Neil four times now. First time, early teens (moms made sure we had concerts) and the last time in Stocton, ca. Solo for 1 million $'s (the town went nuts) thanks moms
I saw this man in my early teens with Linda Rnonstat. Moms felt my brothers and I should have music in our lives. The following month we all saw the Beach Boy's at Circle Star Theater....It was always that way. Thanks moms :) :) :)
This nis defenetely one of the best songs of Neil Diamond ever! Keep going on with composing the nice, touchfull songs with nice musci and lyrics, Neil. Besos!
I like very much all versions of this song by Neil Diamond but I selected this version of his as a favorite because it is outstanding & somewhat different from his other versions-it is a little slower & has a different musical arrangement & accompaniment.
I have to admit I also know this feeling of utter, existential loneliness in places surrounded by crowds of people. you put it so beautifully and it made me sad to read your lines for I know how you feel. I do hope you are better now and however life goes rest assured that at least I will listen.

the same, exactly the same, happened to me. my parents wouldn't understand how a 12 year old child could possibly cry over that song...

what a great version of it - his best that I recall. Pity he has not been able to sing this way in all the years since that beautiful time back then.

...and no one heard, not even the chair...
how much suffering, loneliness and pain does it take to expect the chair to listen
how beautiful and sad and beautiful because of it
neil diamond taught me to appreciate the beauty lyrics of a song can have, the truthfulness of words mirroring feelings
i dearly hope he will be around for many, many years to come
